Quaron jumped out of the chair when the door opened. Jalok let out a sigh of relief when Korick came into the room, holding up the small vile that held the antidote. Korick knelt down next to the bed and put his hand under Daelian's head. He pulled her up, frowning when he felt how cold and clamy her skin felt. She let out a gasp, groaning from the pain of the poison in her system.
Korick opened her mouth with his hand and poured the antidote in. She let out a scream and began to shake as the medicine took affect. Sila came quietly into the room as this was happening, going unnoticed because everyone was paying attention to Daelian. Korick pulled her into his arms, holding her close to try and keep her from moving too much.
Her body eventually went limp and she stopped crying, a little bit of color returning to her face. Korick let out a sigh of relief as her breathing went back to normal and her skin began to feel like it did before she got ill.
She shook her head, finally opening her eyes. She looked up to see Korick's blue eyes looking at her. She coughed, trying to clear her throat so she could speak, her body still feeling weak.
"What happened?" she asked.
"You got poisoned," Quaron replied. "Korick volunteered to go and get the antidote."
"You saved me?" Daelian looked up at Korick.
"Well, it wasn't entirely me," Korick looked over at Sila. "Sila here took the vile without the Shadows even seeing her. She's the real hero."
"Oh, don't listen to this modest guy," Sila smiled. "He was very brave. He was going to fight three Shadows all by himself."
"What if you had gotten killed?" Daelian cried.
"I had to try," Korick looked down, not wanting to look at her worried expression. "I couldn't just stand back and do nothing. Remember what I said? I'm not one to just stand back and worry."
"Thief abilities!" Quaron smiled at Sila. "Amazing. And you're over elven decent, so you must be from the Druid clan over to the south of us."
Sila nodded, her golden curls hitting her face. "I came out to try and get back some of the things that had been stolen, and I found him. He was really strong, but I didn't think it would be wise to see just how long he could hold out."
She grabbed the staff from him and examined it closely. "This is a fine weapon too."
"Where did you get that one?" Daelian asked, trying to shake herself out of her ill state.
"The shop down the street," Korick responded, watching as Sila tried to use the staff but couldn't get it to do anything.
"He let you into the back?" Daelian looked at him in shock.
"Well," Jalok frowned. "We kind of broke the rules and let him know what to say to get it. But it was for a good cause."
"What made you go exploring by yourself?" Daelian looked at Sila.
"The Shadows killed my family," Sila responded, her perky attitude disappearing. "Not a lot of people would notice if I disappeared, so I decided to do a little hunting of my own. See what I could do to stop them."
"Another person for the cause," Korick said quietly, saddened by what Sila had said.
"Then rest up," Quaron took the staff from Sila and laid it on the ground next to the bed. "All five of us leave tomorrow. We head to the town of Warriors. They went to far when they killed your brother, but I didn't have the strength then. Now I do. It's time to take out this trash."
Sila smiled. "Oh, a mission! How fun!"
"Then we're in this together," Daelian laid back down in the bed. "Even if it means our death."
