Have you felt the silence here
Absent the ringing in my ear
As time sits upon my shelf
Just thinking of no one else
Looking down on me with a grin
Knowing the losses it will win
Dusting the books and old black phone
Now stationary and quiet alone
Their only uses when I don’t pretend
To find a reason for dwelling in
And time remains their master key
When I let them do away with me
There are so many things I have to do
And none of which I’ll give into
Call it lazy with minutes that pass
If time wouldn’t think so fast
I could spin shadows inside this door
Wondering what time is waiting for
When will time and me become friends
And tie up all those loose ends
And even dust could make a sound
As the shadows move it around
And thoughts aren’t sentenced to infinity
When time stands by and watches me
