"Since when could they go over the walls?" Quaron yelled, annoyed by the change in plans.
"It's only the winged ones who can," Seria explained, pulling herself off the ground. "The other ones can't go high enough. You haven't had any come into your towns?"
"No," Daelian yelled as she pulled Korick into a safer spot. "All the ones we've seen can only float. No wings of any kind."
"We're going to die!" Sila cried, running over as fast as she could to hide behind Korick.
"There, there little one," Seria smiled. "Everything will be fine."
Sila got inbetween Daelian and Korick, hiding her face in the cloth of Daelian's shirt. Daelian put her arms around Sila and watched as Seria begin to say an incantation. The Shadow stopped and looked down at her, hissing as she spoke. It's long tail hit Seria hard, but she just staggered back and continued. After a moment the Shadow flew back over the wall, screeching one last time.
Seria frowned and shook her head. "Stupid Shadows."
"Does this happen a lot?" Korick asked as he helped Sila and Daelian up off the ground.
"Ocassionally," Seria shrugged. "We've gotten used to the flying ones. Most of our town on the east side has been completely destroyed, which is why these streets are so busy."
"That explains it," Daelian looked around, seeing people coming out from their hiding places. "Someone needs to stand up to these guys."
"Yes, well," Quaron looked at Seria. "That's why we're here. Daelian here decided she wasn't just going to stand back. Since then, the little group has been growing numbers, starting with humble-boy Korick here, and then me, and so on. You know everyone else, except for Sila here, but we're just getting to know her too."
"We're looking for good fighters," Daelian explained. "People who are willing to risk their lives for the good of the people."
"Brave people," Seria smiled at Daelian. "In that case, count me in. The only reason I haven't left myself to try is because going about it all alone isn't a smart idea. Follow me, I know of a place we could check for a few more people. Two heads are better than one."
"And thirty are even better," Jalok said quietly.
Seria nodded and motioned for them to follow her as she began to walk down the street. Daelian looked around as they walked, trying to stay on guard just in case another Shadow came in. Seria led them into a small bar filled with people. Someone played a piano in the corner and candles lit the area.
Seria looked around the bar, her eyes going from table to table. She finally nodded, finding what she wanted, and strolled over to a table, leaning over it to get the attention of the men sitting there. They looked up from their conversation, wondering what had brought her in there. Daelian stopped right behind her, waiting for something to be said.
"Ah, my little servants," Seria grinned.
"We're not your servants," one of the men replied, frowning.
"Right," Quaron stared at the guy. "You just do everything she says."
"This is Turis, Orehne, Kosede," Seria pointed to each as she said their name. "Turis's skills are like mine. We can both do different skills that come from different clans. Orehne is from the Demon clan, and Kosede is originally from the Warrior clan near the ocean. All of them are good allies to have, and all have been complaining more than I could ever want to hear about the Shadows."
Korick looked at Turis. "Would you guys be willing to join us in trying to defeat the Shadows once and for all?"
Turis rose his hand, motioning to the bartender. "We'll talk about this during another round of drinks."
