I Guess You Could Say I Was Still A Kid At Heart At Eighteen One Year I Spent The Entire Summer With Him His Mom, Little Brother And His Dad We Went To A Fishing Pond And Spent Hours Trying To Catch A Fish...I Remember Him Laughing When He Caught A Small Fish Along With A Cattail.... He Came Home With Me And I Took Him To See ET When It Came To The Cinema In My Hometown....After The Movie...We Were Walking Up The Street And He Told Me He ...Wished He Could Stay With Me Always....I Replied I Wished He Could Too I Fluffed His Blonde Hair As We Continued Our Walk Up The Sidewalk Of Main Street...He Was Only A Little Boy Of Nine...So Sweet ...Innocent One Year I Spent The Winter With Him And His Family...And We Decided To Walk To Town....We Bundled Up Warm In Case There Was Bad Weather.., But Thought The Coming Snow Storm The News Forecaster Had Predicted Wouldn't Reach Where We Were For Another Hour...We Went On Our Way...The Town Was About Six Miles...From Where Andy Lived....An Elderly Neighbor Was Headed To Town In His Rickety Old Truck...He Recognised Us And Offered Us A Ride In To Town...He Had Said You Kids Best Hurry And Get Your Shopping Done...A Snow Storm Is On Its Way....So We Got Out.., And Went Into The Little Store... And I Bought Him Some Candy...And We Each Got A Soda And A Few Gum Drops....I Looked Out The Store Window As I Handed The Store Clerk The Money For The Candy And Sodas.. The Snow Was Falling....We Hurried Out Of The Store And Started Down The Street....Snow Was Falling Fast....Everything Was White By The Time We Reached The Road To Andy's House.....It Was Nearly Blinding....I Felt Fear For The First Time...As I Thought What Have I Gotten Us In To...I Am Older And Should Have Known Not To Start Out Walking With The Possibility Of Inclement Weather... I'm Not Sure What Made Me Think Of It...But For God No Doubt And His Guardian Angels....I Looked At Andy And Asked Him.....Isn't There A Fence Line..Here Close...He Was As Scared As I Was...He Had Tears In His Big Blue Eyes...And He Said Yea..It's Right Over Here....So We Walked Off Of The Road And Followed That Old Fence Line...He Asked Me Why We Were Doing That...And I Told Him...The Snow Is Going To Be Really Bad...And We Might Get Lost....Lose Our Direction...But If We Follow The Fence Line...We Know It Runs Right By Your Mom And Dad's Farm...He looked Up At Me ...And A Smile Came Across His Face...We'll Be Ok... He Said...I Replied I Know We Will Because God Is Right Here With Us....The Snow Became Worse...And There Were Times We Couldn't See A Thing....Andy Got So Tired Wanting To Stop...But I Felt If We Stopped...We Wouldn't Make It...And No One Would Find Us In The Blinding Snow I Told Him To Hop Up on My Back....Trying To Turn It Into Something Fun..... I Carried That Boy While Holding On To The Fenceline For Five Miles With The Snow Up To My Knees...When We Made It Home...His Mama (My Aunt), Had Been Worried Out Of Her Mind She Said To Both Of Us...She Asked Andy Did The Old Farmer Drop Us Back Off...And Andy Replied No Mom ......Blue Carried Me Home.... But We Had Angels Helping Us...Showing Us The Way... Andy's Mom Looked At Him... Then To Me....I Said We Followed That Old Fenceline In....And She Had Tears In Her Eyes As She Said The Neighbors Had Talked Of Taking All Of That Down Just The Other Day Because They Didn't Need It Anymore.... I Got A Phone Call Today...My Cousin Is In Iraq...He Kept This News From The Family...His Mama And Dad...Until Today.... He Said Because He Didn't Want Them Or Us To Worry About Him He Is Married Now And Has Been In The Marines For Well Over Ten Years ... He Is An Aircraft Mechanic...He Told His Mama...Where He Is It Isn't Dangerous...Yet Any Where There Is A War It Is Dangerous....I Cannot Help But Worry About him...And I Said A Prayer For Him...He Will Return Home Safe... I Thought About All Of Our Adventures When We Were Children...... Tears Came To My Eyes......I Thought About That Old Fenceline We Followed That Day........It Had Been Our Lifeline.....And I Thought.. Andy ..
