I thought you said "favorable"? Favorable would be The Moon Landing; The MUSIC! ...The Doors, The Stones, The Beatles, Jimi Hindrix, Janis Joplin, etc. But mostly I remember An awful lot of changes took place in the 60's, lots of riots, marches, sit-ins, love-ins, and protests, unrest, in those years. I remember being right down in the middle of the rioting at the Democratic Convention in downtown Chicago, being scared outta my mind. I remember exactly where I was, everything about the day JFK was asassinated; when MLK was shot down, and when Robert Kennedy was also asassinated. I remember riding the CTA buses and the horrible tensions with the rioting. I remember when Charles Manson & gang murdered all those people. I remember everything about the night Richard Speck slaughtered 8 student nurses in a nursing residence on the south side of Chicago. And, oh my my, all kinds of horrible memories of the Viet Nam War, demonstrating against the war, and saying goodbye to friends that never returned. It was an unbelievable era....for sure. |

Favorable events, eh? Life was carefree, for the most part. My father always took his vacation in the summer and we went to the seashore and stayed a whole month. I loved it. The cabins were right on the beach and there were these huge window fans that you had to feed quarters to, otherwise they wouldn't run. We never used 'em, though. Dad said there was no way he'd pay for a breeze...hehe..The two bed cabins rented for $4.00 a day. The three bed ones were $7.00 a day and if we really had a crowd, two or three familes would pitch in the $10.00 it took to rent the dressing rooms in the "Beach Heaven." (an old honky-tonk on the property.)....Exploring the river bottoms and checking out the old plantation house near my parents place. Falling in love for the first, second, third and fourth time *wink*..Rock n Roll music. I remember when the Beatles and The Rolling Stones came over. The Doors, Quicksilver Messanger Service, Stevie Ray Vaughn...Dancing with my girl cousins in front of the Wurlitzer at Uncle Clay's beer joint...Ahhhhhhhhh. that was nice remembering. Thanks, Amanda..:) |

Things were more laid back in those days. Gasoline prices were like at 79 cents a gallon!! It was the era of the Hippie, the real thing, Lol.. Music was the mainstream then as is now. They used to listen to music on a record player with albums, now called vinyls, Lol.. The dress code was far out, man, it was colorful, bright and expressed freedom. Hair grew as long as it pleased, whether you were male or female.. |
