Kayo ran to the small pond behind her house. She sat beside it and looked at her reflection. She noticed something different. In her reflection she felt that she looked like a different person. She looked more bold, less naiive, less... innocent. Then she realized it. She was the only person in the whole toen of Teardell who knew the truth. The truth was that all of the early citizens were Pathological Lyers. They made up the stories of the history of Teardell, because a crying dragon was more interesting than rain. Then, they convinced themselves it was true. She pitied the poor souls.
'It must have been an old fox,' she thought. 'Only foxes would be so dumb, yet be able to convince a whole town. They even got us "clever" humans involved.' Kayo laughed at the thought of humans (her species) being clever. This had never been the case. In fact, according to all the citizens, the reason humans live longer is because it takes them so much longer to learn. But if they were to rely completely on that, then flies would learn the fastest, when everyone knows that flies aren't the sourest pickles in the jar.
All these thoughts sped through her sharp little mind. "Wait a second. What am I doing!?" she shouted at her reflection. She realized that since she was obviously much smarter than the rest of the town, then this place was not where she wanted to be. She wanted to find smart people. Maybe even people with proof. Yeah, that's what she needed, proof. She set off towards the woods.

This story would probably be a little better if I could use italics on some of these words. Instead I had to use the dramatic dot dot dot (...). Also, don't you just love how cocky Kayo is? :p
