What is the big rush out there?.....Souldrifter

It never fails, no matter where I'm going, that at least a dozen people pass by me as if I'm standing still.

Every morning when I go to work I take a relatively busy route. It's not a major highway but a good link between two citys. It's a regular two lane, 55 mile an hour road. I go the speed limit. Sometimes a little faster. I sware that everyone who comes up behind me feels the need to pass me. They must be going 75 miles an hour too and they don't slow up once they pass. They just keep on a going like their life depended on it. Now, I assume a majority of these passers are on their way to work, just like me. What is the big hurry? Do they have mean bosses who will fire them if they are a minute late? If so, why not leave earlier? Are they empowered by their fast moving vehicles? Perhaps. Maybe they look down on my car as something they feel inferior to be behind. What ever their reasoning is, I think they are idiots.

People have passed me in the most precarious of spots that it put at least three peoples lives in danger. Mine, theirs and the car up a head they almost hit. Sometimes they have to wait until it's clear to pass and I see them back there weaving to the left and back, looking for a clear shot, waiting for the okay. I can't help feeling smug when they can't pass. I can't help thinking I hope they never get the chance to pass me. I hope they ARE late for work and get fired because they weren't smart enough to leave early enough not to pass me. HA! And I have to admit I am tempted to floor the gas pedal when they get beside me to make life harder for them. But I don't. I don't want to sink to their level. *smiles*

Most (by far) of the people I've noticed passing me are women my own age. This makes me so ashamed. I thought we were the safer sex. No offense to men out there but come on...Men typically take more chances than women. We value our lives a little more I think. We think about how messed up our day would be if we smashed up the car. We tend to consider not trying to kill someone with our driving habits more than men...don't we? *sigh* Apparently not.

There is one thing I don't like more than women who pass me...men in pick ups. I'm sorry but this really annoys me. Why...oh why...do men in pick up trucks think they rule the road? I can't begin to tell you the number of times a day that some man in a pick up truck will cut me off, pull out in front of me when there is no one for miles behind me, cut me off at a green light to turn left, ride my bumper like he's drafting at a NASCAR race, goes first at 4 way stops no matter who else was there first and apparently thinks he has the right of way at all times because he has a bigger engine. This is where my road rage comes in. When ever I see a man in a pick up, I want to hang my head out of the window and say "I hate you and your lousy truck" *hangs head in shame* I know I should be more tolerant but I can't help myself.

Come to think of it, there isn't much I like about anyone on the road anymore. They all scare me. I'm not a weak and timid women when it comes to driving. I just don't trust anybody anymore. There seems to be a lack of common sense and respect for rules. Here's an example. Down by my house there is an intersection. Lets call the road Main Street and Broadway. Broadway has stop signs on both it's corners. Main Street has no stop signs which means everyone on Main Street gets to keep driving without a care in the world. Why is EVERYBODY stopping at this intersection like it's a 4 way stop? Do the idiots on Main Street assume they have to stop because it's an intersection that Broadway people have to stop at? They are confusing me. No one knows what to do when they get there. All of a sudden some guy on the corner of Broadway thinks he can direct traffic by waving out his window. And if it is just the two of us stopped at Broadway, with no one coming down Main Street, He is turning left and I am going straight, why does he think he can go first just because he got there a millisecond before I did? I have the right away darn it! Oh, of course *slaps forehead* He's driving a pickup. <<<<note the sarcasm

One of these days I'm going to get up the nerve to shout out my window "go back to driving school you (expletive) moron." Okay, I'm done venting now. Have you notice how bad people are driving these days or are you one of the many who don't consider your 2 ton vehicle a dangerous and deadly weapon?

Date: 7/28/2004 9:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    My own problem with drivers. A.Turn Signals, especially here in the South, Use your darn turn signals people. I don't know you turn there every day. B. People who ride my tail too close when I'm on my motorcycle, it's not a matter of running into me fool, you're going to run OVER me. C. People in cars who don't get out of my way when I'm in my pickup truck. :P
Date: 7/28/2004 9:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 62675    I agree People drive way too fast. I am sad to admit that I am in that group most of the time. However, I keep up with traffic, I don't start the race and I don't pass. And it is women drivers in trucks too that like to own the road, I am gulity when I drive my dad's truck. I think it is because unless we get hit by a bus or dump truck or semi, we are not gonna get hurt and their will be minimal damage to our truck. This doesn't not make it right just a reason maybe.
Date: 7/28/2004 10:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 23101    Well, you guys might have the problem with people driving too fast, we have a problem of too slow going on here in Washington. He he.. Everytime I am in the car with my mom, or dad, we are always going slower than the speed limit because the cars in front of us are going slower than slow. He he.. *hugs*
Date: 7/28/2004 10:46:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30747    *smiles*@BCAR. I was just yelling at the hubby yesterday about him not using his turn signal when he changed lanes and he wasn't even in a pick up. People irk me sometimes.
Date: 7/28/2004 1:44:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30747    That anology makes sense Sunni. I drive a little car. One hit and I'm a goner for sure. Drive safely.
Date: 7/28/2004 1:47:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30747    Little Jung that is an excellent point. We have them here too. They REALLY do get on my last nurve. I always say "move it or lose it" Geezz!!
Date: 7/28/2004 2:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 22308    I hate it when people do not use their signal to turn or get over or whatever it is. i hate that with a passion and also people that go 50 in a 65. i have to pass by them cause it irritates me so much. i'm sorry but i have a lot of road rage. i don't know where i got it but i have it.
Date: 7/28/2004 5:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    i totally know what you mean! for some reason, i can be driving 60 in a 55 and STILL get passed by everyone! and the turn signal thing people mentioned bother me too. it seems like nobody signals anymore! and, if i am not getting passed in the 55 zone, i am behind the person doing 35 in a 55. it's getting to the point where i hate to drive anymore
Date: 7/29/2004 12:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 26452    I am horrible in traffic, I get so mad at people like this! I get it from my mama, you wouldn't believe the words that come out of her mouth when shes in traffic! It REALLY annoys me when people do not use their blinker, IS IT THAT HARD?? And I hate to admit it, but when someone is being a butt, cutting people off, driving like a moron, weaving in and out of traffic, I do anything I can to make them mad. My favorite is staying with the person next to me, so the butt behind us can't pass. I also give lots of "free birdies" as my sister calls them LOL. One thing, I do do, is I drive a little fast, only 5 over, its just habit, I live out in the middle of nowhere, and to go anyhwhere, its 65 MPG for at least 30 miutes lol. But in residential I NEVER go above the speed limit, I would feel HORRIBLE if I ran over ANYTHING. I'm always the one who slams on their brakes for the little birds crossing the road lol.
Date: 7/30/2004 8:31:00 AM  From Authorid: 11240    When I first read this I did not comment because I wasn't sure if what I had to say on the subject would come out right, but I thought it over and decided to comment: When I am on a two-lane road and someone comes up on me wanting to pass, I help them out by getting over to the right as far as I can safely go so they can see if they have a clear view or not. I don't slow down or speed up, I just drive my normal speed. I do not want to be messing around with tons of accelerated mass, myself. As far as using blinkers, it is a habit of mine to use, but are you all aware that there are people out there who are LOOKING to get in a wreck? Last week I was driving on an avenue with three lanes; I was in the right hand lane. I could see a slow down in front of me so I signaled to get into the middle lane which I could see I had a clear move. Just as I was moving into the middle lane, out of the corner of my eye, I see a car had entered the middle lane (I'm presuming from the left lane), laying back right in my blind spot and I barely missed it having to swerve back into the right lane. I know it had just moved into the lane because when I first viewed to make sure I could make a safe lane change it wasn't a green sedan back there in that lane. My parents were truck drivers for many years. In the last few years before they retired, they were having to deal with carloads of people running into their trailer tires when the traffic was inching along at freeway merges in the Bay area. They would tell their insurance agents that they wanted to fight the liability of these "accidents" only to be told that it was easier for the insurance agencies to just settle. My oldest daughter just turned 16 and there is no way she is going to be getting her license yet. We keep telling her it is not that we don't trust her driving, it is all the other jerks out there. I probably drive a little faster than most people, but my motivation is to get out of a pack of cars all glommed together. I feel much safer with a nice distance of cars in front and behind me. And my biggest peeve out driving is people who non-chalantly (are they eating, gabbing on the phone, reading, putting on make-up???!!!) get moving once they get a green light at an intersection. Green does mean GO. And there are probably plenty of people behind you who would like to GO through the green light, also. God Bless.
