Truth vs Reality -Magenta Blue

I was just reading a poem titled "The Records of Time" by Miguel Piñero, and as I was trying to really understand what he was saying, a part of it caught my attention. Just giving some background info, this is how the poem starts: "Two hundred fifty million years ago, long before the recorded history of man, someone sat down and recorded it; And this man's name was Time". It then continues on: "He lived hear a wise old gentleman named His Story and his wife Truth, and their two sons Hypocrisy and Reality. Truth was a very blunt woman [....] Though she loved her family equally, she had a certain affection for Reality".

So this made me think of the difference between truth and reality. I want to know what you all think. I just gave that bit of information (the excerpts from the poem) to explain where I was coming from and what gave me the idea for this. I'm wondering why this author felt the need to separate those two things in his poem, since they seem to be extremely similar. But I want your ideas! So, let's discuss! =) *brings out the gourmet coffee, snobby organic tea, and old halloween cookies, after, of course, dusting them off*. My hospitality really is something, eh? (^_^)

Date: 7/28/2004 1:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    I think that "my" truth is what I "know" and "my" reality is what I "choose" it to be..If that's makes a grain of sense..*wink* Hi, Magenta Blue..:)
Date: 7/28/2004 3:56:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 13897    hmm yes I do think I know what you mean! truth is something absolute, and reality is what you make yourself think or decide to think. I know this person who really believes that all of his problems are at the fault of others around him. but in reality, he is making choices that result in his own unhappiness. so then, it seems like reality is more personal and truth is the greater knowledge. but then you get into whose truth or whose reality... because i suppose they can both be made personal or public. I can have a truth that I feel absolute about (like that the sun will rise every day) and then I can have my own world where I choose to believe that trees are magical and cats can see spirits. I know that it might be silly but I choose to believe in it because I enjoy life more if I do. Is that somewhat along the lines of what you were saying? =) If so, that makes a lot of sense. and if not.. well.. we can pretend that's what you meant *wink wink* heheheheh... so how are the cookies?? =)
Date: 7/28/2004 9:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 62249    I see no difference. Reality is what you as an individual perceive things to be. Truth is what you KNOW to be correct. But, seeing as how reality is your perception, 'truths' can chance. Example. The dog is yellow. TRUE. HOWEVER, in a reality where you are colorblind, the dog might be gray, or the like. I don't know if this makes much sense but it touches on what I belive.

Date: 12/31/2004 12:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 11240    Reality is all the God Sees, Hears, Discerns. When a person's perception of reality meshes with what God Saw, Heard, Discerned, then that person can be said to have experienced THE TRUTH. God Bless.
