If you were raised a Christian and still believe in the Christian God then you would be disobeying one of his greatest commandments by worshiping a God other than himself.. Wiccans have numerous Gods and Goddesses and I do not believe these two faiths can be "mixed" - although i am sure some people will tell you otherwise :)  |

Good luck with your journey, Alexa. You must know that you are going to get many different answers on here because they are all based on the beliefs of the individual and their interpretation of the religion they follow. From my observations of conversations on here (there was one similar to this within the last two weeks I believe) many Wiccans seem to follow a belief that combines the two practices on some level, while many devout Christians will quickly tell you as DW Dolphin has that the God of the Christian faith does not tolerate the practice of magic. Okay first off before you go converting to Wicca and praying to the Goddess maybe you should research it. Not just it but a lot of different religions out there :)! I mean come on theres Islam, Judiasim, other forms of Christianity, Voodoism, Hinduism, Shintoism, Taoism, heck even Satanism! I've researched a lot of those and I've honestly never had an interest in joining most of them (heck Im pretty anti Satanisim but at least I researched it a bit to see where they come from :p.) A lot of teens (yeah Im one :p) are raised Christian then hear about Wicca and without much research run to it. Wicca is a WONDERFUL religion (so is Christianity ;)) but why pray before you know anything about it? Another thing I'd like to add (and you dont have to believe this just I do) is that religion is a tool for spirituality, i.e. it can get you where your going but you dont HAVE to have a religion, heck you could just be spiritual having your own beliefs and not calling yourself one path :p! Again on the deity thing will your going to have to decide what you believe. (this is one thing that kinda annoys me about Wicca, I find it a bit to ecclectic) in Wicca you can pick how many or how few Gods you believe in. You can believe all Gods exist and are seperate entities, or that they all exist but lead to one being, or that two (a god and a goddess) exist and go one of those ways, etc. A lot pick the 'many Gods lead to one being' route but I personally like the other one: they they all exist and are all seperate. So then in MY opinion praying to a Goddess and praying to Jesus both wouldnt be a bad thing, but honey you gotta figure that one out for how YOU believe. Anyways for any Wicca research you'd like to do heres what I recommend: look into books but dont believe them all (for the love of God avoid Silver RavenWolf). Try sites like http://paganwiccan.about.com (click their other spirituality sites for other beliefs :)) and beliefnet.com . Both are EXCELLENT sites for ANY religion (well the spirituality one :p and beliefnet I mean :p.) I hope that helped and lemme know if u need any more help :)!  |
