One of the spookiest spots in the Eden River Valley,is the megalithic circle of stones known as "Long Meg and Her Daughters".To this day, witches still hold nighttime ceremonies at this site, and the ghosts of ancient Druid priests still haunt the site.In the 1990s,a dark, shadowy apparition was seen moving rapidly around the site and even passed through one of the witnesses, who felt instantly cold and frightened. One legend states the megaliths themselves were formed when a wizard turned a coven of witches into stone. The 300-by-360 foot site consists of a lone 12 foot high megalith (Long Meg) surrounded by 59 stones in a circle(her Daughters).According to folklore, it is not possible to count the same number of stones in the circle twice, and if you do bad luck will follow you from the site. The "cup and ring" carvings on "Long Meg" are secret glyphs relating to certain vortexes of energy seen by shamans in altered states of consciousness.Similiar markings are found at many other stone circles in Britain, and some people visiting the sites also report seeing the psychic vortexes.International Directory of Haunted Places,pp.80-81.
