Though a number of presidents assumed their role by taking over the reigns of their predecessor thrugh death or resignation, there is one president who was never elected to either the president or vice-president position.
Gerald Ford never won a national election, but was instead appointed by Richard Nixon to replace Vice-president Spiro Agnew, who had resigned his position to avoid bribery charges.
Then, when Nixon in turn resigned, Ford assumed the nation's highest office.
