The Village

I hardly ever do reviews, because, everyone has their own opinion. But, this one has to have something sad about it. I have to save everyone the 8 or so dollars they would spend on a ticket.

In my opinion this was the most pathetic attempt at a horror/suspense movie. There is NO suspsence, well, there is ONE part where the music builds up, duh duh duh duh duh duh and then something appears, the music makes it climax and stops, at that part I jumped, out of surprise NOT out of fear.

The whole movie my friends and I were waiting for it to get moving. But no, it was so boring and pointless.

Now here is a happy note. It is probably a good book, something that you could enjoy and have suspence in reading, and its clever, but NO, definitly NOT a movie.

One more point, my friend figured it all out before the movie ended, its not that hard to do.

Adrian Brody gave an extrodinary acting performance though.

So, go see it if you want, but dont say I didnt warn ya ;)

Date: 7/30/2004 5:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 50434    8 dollars wow, I payed 6, but newayz. I thought the movie was okay. Once I found out the basis of it then I wasnt to happy, but I would definatley say it not theatre worthy, wait till it comes to the video store.
Date: 7/30/2004 5:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 62423    I just got back from seeing it... I wasn't too impressed with it, I think it was better than a few of his other films though..
Date: 7/30/2004 5:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 27705    Well thanks cause i was going to go see it tomorrow lol...maybe i wont now..peace and love Regina

Date: 7/30/2004 5:49:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37449    Yeah! I was sooooooo disapointed! I LOVE a scary moive and was excited for this one, but man.. it blew.
Date: 7/30/2004 6:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    I've been curious about this movie but I won't pay to go see it. My friend said that she'll pay for the movie when it goes to the 3 dollare theater. I have the feeling that this is going to be one of those movies that you expect too much out of it...in other words..boring and not scary! lol
Date: 7/30/2004 7:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 61910    i will probably still go see it...thanks for the warning though...i have a habit of enjoying movies that other people don't get much out of...plus joaquin pheonix is pretty hot too...and i love adrien brody's acting...thanks...peace and love
Date: 7/30/2004 7:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 1799    well, whatever.. i thought it was good.. it's not what you'd expect from a horror movie. and that makes it good. the writer/director of this movie is a really good one, and I really liked it.
Date: 7/30/2004 7:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 12103    I'm not dissing on your review or anything, but you didnt give a discription of what this movie is about...I just got back from it and i guess i was expecting too much out of this movie due to the exciting previews i have watched, because it wasnt what i expected..although it was interesting...ALSO i want to know your opinion on something....You watched the movie and you know that Ivy and Lucus (however you spell his name) were in love, which that is why she left the woods to go get mecidine....WELL i went to the yahoo reviews and the summary that yahoo gave was This movie was based on the love of KITTY and LUCUS, rather than KITTY's older (or younger, whichever) Blind sister IVY....What happend there? Here is the link, let me know what you think http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&cf=info&id=1808488393
Date: 7/30/2004 7:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 1799    easy, Princess Jen.. people are stupid and messed up.
Date: 7/30/2004 8:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    hmmm, I was so intrigued by the preview, can you give a little more info? I think now I'll wait awhile.
Date: 7/30/2004 8:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 24319    I was wanting to go see this, but my boyfriend looked up a spolier, so, I'll still see it, probably monday. I usually have different opinoins that others.
Date: 7/30/2004 8:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 36538    I actually liked the movie even though I had the ending figured out almost from the beginning.
Date: 7/30/2004 10:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 28193    Thanks for the warning..I won't waste the money.
Date: 7/30/2004 11:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 22308    I thought the movie was pretty good. but the ending left me hanging dang it! oh well, i expected more than what i saw definitely but it still was a good movie.
Date: 7/30/2004 11:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 55582    i will go see this movie the director who is also the director of the 6th sence made the vilige move so of course i'm going to go see the movie i loved all the other movies he directed
Date: 7/30/2004 11:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 19460    You know, we rented the Secret Window with Johnny Depp (Stephen King movie) and I felt the same way about it that you do about The Villiage! Its sad nowdays when you can see a decent horror movie and you can figure out the ending halfway through!
Date: 7/31/2004  From Authorid: 58809    I really didn't get scared...what creeped* HA. I can't seem to speak correctly today! HAHA. Sorry. Adios
Date: 7/31/2004  From Authorid: 58809    I just came back from seeing the movie. I have to say, it wasn't what I had expected. I didn't really get scared at all...what did creepy me out was the idea behind the story...you know, the extreme people will go to to preserve innocense and whatnot. I thought that was creepy in itself. The movie also got me to thinking how the times have changed. So I'll say it was a good movie and worth my time. I mean, hey, it got me thinking. I know most people just want to jump in their seats and scream...but I think I got a little bit more. ;)
Date: 7/31/2004 4:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 26363    Think I'll pass on this one. Thanks for the warning. $8! Is it that much to get into a movie now?! OMG
Date: 7/31/2004 10:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 29387    I agree with most of what people are saying here. The idea is good, but the execution lacked. People are going to see M. Night Shymalan movies with high expectations, and "The Village" disappoints, in that regard anyways. Shymalan does a good job though of maintaining a creepy tone, and his consistent framed shots of two people conversing while being overwhelmed by their environment is genious. (The scene in which Lucious and Ivy bond, with fog looming in the screen, for example.) Shymalan has quirks, but he's still talented.
Date: 7/31/2004 11:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 1799    let me reword my last comment.. someone got confused. the yahoo review shows people messing up and being stupid. hopefully, they'll change it now that the movie is out, or they're going to look like idiots.
Date: 7/31/2004 1:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 1799    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0368447/
Date: 7/31/2004 2:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 60395    wow, i thought our 4.75 ticket was expensive! 8$$$$$$$$?!?!?!??!?!
Date: 8/1/2004 1:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 58809    Try $9.50 Gotta love Los Angeles
Date: 8/1/2004 7:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 18527    I liked it, I agree that the whole concept of the huge power we as parents have over our children is frightening!
Date: 8/1/2004 4:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 20104    I loved the movie. I thought it was great. I am really glad I didn't know the secret or figure it out till the end when it was told. Adrian Brody was really good. I totally agree. And did you know Ivy is Ron Howard's daughter?? I thought she was really good.
Date: 8/1/2004 7:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 9130    This movie was annoyingly predicable. I was really disapointed.
Date: 8/3/2004 12:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 28638    I haven't seen it yet, but my friend pretty much said it sucked. I was kind of looking forward to see it, but now I guess I'll wait till I can rent it, lol
