Date: 7/30/2004 7:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    I heard something about this a ways back. There was a rumor that Marilyn Manson was going to be Willy Wonka or Johnny Depp, I think, but those were rumors.
Date: 7/30/2004 7:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    Yeah Danny and I were talking about this just a few hours ago while at the store. I was trying to remember who i had heard would be playing Willy wonka..
Date: 7/30/2004 7:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 37101    I heard Johnny Depp's been asked to play the role, actually. We'll see what happens. I haven't heard anything else about it though. -
Date: 7/30/2004 7:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    wow! i have not heard anything about this. i love that movie! i even bought the movie so my son can watch it. and he loves it too. it's a good movie that has been around and enjoyed for years. i get a little worried about remakes though. with movies or songs. sometimes a remake takes something away from the origional. hopefully, if they do one, it will be just as good
Date: 7/30/2004 8:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 5886    Marilyn Manson played Wanka in a music video of his I think. lol, and there was a Wicked Wanka tour either by MM or ICP... but none of the above mentioned parties will take part in the re-make to my knowledge.
Date: 7/30/2004 8:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 25756    I heard about this a while ago. I think it's a bad idea. I love the original. Why would they make a remake?? It's such an awesome mvoie the way it is!!
Date: 7/30/2004 8:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 53157    I havent heard about that. They shouldnt mess with it cause the original is better. And its a classic. they should just let it be.
Date: 7/30/2004 8:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 62787    no, the original was better...except the "cheer up charlie" song..that could be cut out.- Blade of the Samurai
Date: 7/30/2004 9:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 47618    For those who are wondering...this is NOT (N-O-T) a remake of the original film but another film adaptation of the original novel. (Dahl was never really happy with what they did with his classic novel...so this is basically "take two".) So technically it's not going to be a remake at all and it's going to go by the book's original title, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. I think the goal is to make it more along the lines of the original book which, if I remember correctly, was a bit darker...(just like Disney's Return to Oz was closer to the dark/gritty Oz novels than was MGM's classic Wizard of Oz film).
Date: 7/31/2004 2:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 62752    oh i would loooove to see it, but i agree Q, it would be kinda weird, i would never wanna see wiz of oz redone thats my fav movie of all time KK
Date: 7/31/2004 4:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 62023    As much as I loved the Gene Wilder Willie Wonka (the man was and still is a genius), I can't wait to see Tim Burton's spin on it. I did read that it will stay closer to the book, which is a bit darker (Burton's forte). As much as I love Johnny Depp, I'm curious to see his portrayal of the mysterious WW. I can't quite picture it, but I'm looking forward to it. I'm sure Gene Wilder's portrayal won't suffer any comparisons to this version. Now if they even THINK about touching Young Frankenstein . . . grrrrrr!
Date: 7/31/2004 11:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 47618    Yeah, when u think about it, it's not Depp trying to recreate Wilder's performance of Wonka. This is Depp taking a character that already existed and doing his own intrepretation of it. People need to go into this film with out a baised view and accept the fact that this is an entirely different film. There's a lot of people who can't stand watching Return to Oz because it's not like the Oz they grew up with. Well this is usually the people who claim to be Oz fans but have never picked up a book and realize that they're much darker than the bubbly colorful film we grew up with. Once you put aside that film in your mind, Return to Oz is awesome and downright creepy. Nothing more traumatizing than seeing the Yellow Brick Road crumbling apart, the Emerald City in ruins, Dorothy going in for shock treatment to "cure" her of her delusions of the land of Oz. Awesome film. Not to mention that Faruiza Balk at the time was a lil girl...what Dorothy was supposed to have been.
Date: 8/1/2004 9:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 18527    Let's hope that they make teh Great Glass Elevator as well. Although I read all the books and don't think they are particularly "dark"... unless punishing bad kids for being bad is considered dark...
Date: 9/12/2004 5:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 59418    I love johnny depp :D
Date: 12/2/2005 2:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 51292    I was so suprised when I found out they were doing a remake! I was pretty thrilled that Johnny depp was gonna be playing willy also. I really loved this movie..I liked it better than the first. I was really impressed with it :)
