"I got an abortion" ... a t-shirt from Planned Parenthood

  Author:  3836  Category:(Debate) Created:(7/30/2004 9:31:00 PM)

I saw this commentary on the news earlier tonight. Planned Parenthood now sells t-shirts that read "I got an abortion." They did this in hopes of turning the viewpoint around and instilling confidence in women who do get abortions. I think it is very sad. What has our nation come to? Even pro-choice people were saying this is uncalled for. Perhaps soon there will be pro-life, pro-choice, and pro-abortion. What do you think about this?

Date: 7/30/2004 9:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    It isn't necessary, is it? And why would it be? Advertizing something so personal seems so callous and certainly so indifferent. And why would that be?
Date: 7/30/2004 9:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 4887    I agree with everyone else. It's disgusting and ridiculous. *shakes head* There's just thinking of anything to get money.
Date: 7/30/2004 9:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 24003    Thats insane.
Date: 7/30/2004 9:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 30786    I am just in shock right now. I cannot believe they would stoop so low as to advertise such an awful thing. Glamorizing abortion or trying to instill pride in someone who has had an abortion is wrong. Callous is exactly the right word to use to describe this train wreck.
Date: 7/30/2004 10:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 8278    i can not believe something like this is allowed! that is a VERY personal thing and i dont know who in their right mind would want to advertise something like that! it is disgusting and completely unnecessary
Date: 7/30/2004 10:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 28193    Who would waste money on that?
Date: 7/30/2004 10:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 62267    Wow why not have printed out "I Slaughtered a baby up into little chunks of baby meat!" It's the same thing. This world is getting worse every day. What a bunch of idiots.
Date: 7/30/2004 10:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 24732    This will probably just result in people wearing them for a joke or a bunch of spinoff t-shirts like- "I got an abortion and all I got was this lousy t-shirt".
Date: 7/30/2004 10:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 54444    I think it is fine if someone wishes to wear it. Everyone has a right to their own opinion and should have freedom to express it even if it differs from mine or someone elses.
Date: 7/30/2004 11:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    That's just gross. I would never wear a t-shirt with those words on it!
Date: 7/30/2004 11:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    I would never advertise that, much less do it.
Date: 7/30/2004 11:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 62825    I'm a guy but i would still wear that shirt, it would be funny - Evan
Date: 7/30/2004 11:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 22308    i think whoever came up with that idea is a sick person! i don't believe in abortion unless it IS completely necessary.
Date: 7/31/2004 1:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 17081    Disgusting to brag about murder
Date: 7/31/2004 2:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 62752    that sick, but i guess the world is a messed up place KK
Date: 7/31/2004 2:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 53558    I think that is awful...
Date: 7/31/2004 5:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 30229    Sounds pretty dang sick to me.. :( Sad and sick. As IF anyone would sport something like that.. ugh!
Date: 7/31/2004 5:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 24924    While I find such a statement on a T-shirt to be rather dumb and distasteful as this, it PALES in comparison to a Republican Bush-Cheney 04 T-shirt which is now available: The T-shirt is in vivid color of a Marine holding a smoking M-16, his face is that of The Grim Reaper, flames are all around the outside, and the saying on the shirt is: "Peace isn't Pretty". Makes my skin crawl. Also, other Pro-Life shirts with pictures of dead fetus are just as disgusting if not more so. There are whacko, brain dead morons on BOTH sides of the fence. Just my 2 cents on the matter.
Date: 7/31/2004 6:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 6358    Why do they even bother........who would wear such a thing?
Date: 7/31/2004 7:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 42522    OMG...Why would you wear a shirt like that?
Date: 7/31/2004 7:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    Where can I find one of those Bush- Cheny Shirts?
Date: 7/31/2004 7:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 55009    is that as bad as the "i beat anorexia(sp?)" shirts that people wear... i think really everyone is taking everything way to seriously and needs to lighten up... i like the "let people believe what they want and let them be" philosophy
Date: 7/31/2004 8:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    Another small point, "Brain dead wacko Morons", I read that correctly did I not? So that would denote that Planned Parenthood is run by Brain Dead Wacko Morons?
Date: 7/31/2004 8:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 62585    i agree with a womans right to choose, but i do not agree with bragging about ending an innocent life. although i feel abortion should be a right, i do not believe it is something someone should be proud of. flaunting the fact that you had an abortion would only make people look down on you. I know if i saw a girl wearing that shirt i would think she was trash. not because she had an abortion but because she seems proud of it. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?
Date: 7/31/2004 8:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 47296    I saw this on the national news. The story stated however that they although they originally did print the shirts with the intent to sale them, they have decided to pull them and not offer them for sale.
Date: 7/31/2004 9:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    Here are a few alternative t-shirts I've seen suggested: "Inconvienience"-- printed on a maternity top with an arrow pointing down at the tummy. Or: "Yeah. I killed my baby. Got a problem with that?"
Date: 7/31/2004 9:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 4144    sounds pretty twisted to me.
Date: 7/31/2004 11:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 57225    well.. im sure they havent sold many.. because.. not many people are proud of having an abortion. i'm not completely against abortion, but if i was to have one i sure wouldn't be bragging about it. but if there are a selected few who for some unknown reason aren't ashamed of it and want people to know it.. let them wear their t-shirt, who cares.. just because we don't agree with it doesnt mean they dont have the right to wear it. its their choice, no one is forcing anyone to wear them, so there really shouldnt be an issue.
Date: 7/31/2004 11:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 62833    I agree with the majority it is disgusting!
Date: 7/31/2004 2:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 62808    It makes me sick to even think of the process of getting an abortion. Especially if someone is already a few months into the pregnancy... Honestly I think anyone who even conciders one into only a couple weeks of pregnancy didn't really think of what happens to that life. They're only concidering themselves... ~*Mandy*~
Date: 7/31/2004 5:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 24845    I think why would you want to advertise that. There are some people out there that aren't proud of that decision and those that are generally keep it private. I say there is no point in it.
Date: 7/31/2004 5:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 15319    What, no hat?
Date: 7/31/2004 9:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 56489    It's sickening! There's so many people that would love to have chidren & can't I don't understand how anyone can be that selfish to abort, & wear a tee shirt to show your proud of it unless it's life threatening to themselves. This kind of crap disgusts me!
Date: 7/31/2004 9:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 56489    Matter of fact this just had happened to my sister, except planned parenthood had nothing to do with it, the doc told her when she had Leanna she was blessed but could never have another, but never bothered to tie her tubes, so guess what she found out she was 3 weeks pregnant, & the doctor told her her plecenta is disenigrating, & if she chose to try to carry the baby which would probably be born dead, or if she got lucky enough for her to have it which he doubted it 100%, it could kill her. So I spent days on the phone begging her to do as the doc suggested, just for the fact, I can't take that chance of loosing her, she has many of heath problems, so she did, which now it threw her back into yet another depression which they upped her medication, so she can now get her tubes tied, like they should have done in the first place, if they knew her first & last was a blessing.

Date: 7/31/2004 10:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    Some wear shirts advertizing their thoughts, and there is usually the person behind the shirt. Look closely and be not confused, for it is probably someone known. I find it confusing that Kerry is against the death penalty for child murderers, and yet supports abortion. I really don't have a sense of where his values are and where he draws support on these issues. Personally I will state here that, if the issue is so cloudy, please explain how and why? Adopttion is an option, and so is abortion, but everything and everyone wants to live, and a child is the epitomy of life. Sacred above all else. Unless the mother's life is comprimised by the birth, although today modern medicine has brought remarkable breakthroughs in saving both mother and child. Birth control is such a small thing compared to abortion. It really is.
Date: 8/1/2004 5:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 22080    i wouldnt doubt if its a lie
Date: 8/1/2004 11:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 27705    ok one that is sick that they would even considering making a tshirt like that...two there are lots of people against abortion including myself who don't want to know such things...and three thats just asking for trouble if you ask me peace and love Regina
Date: 8/2/2004 2:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 15677    are you kidding me?
Date: 8/2/2004 3:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 47218    I would be afraid to wear such a shirt in public-- you might get assaulted by crazy pro-lifers.
Date: 8/2/2004 6:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 55967    Two cents for Thinker: I know you didn't imply that Bush and Cheney are in any way responsible for those disgusting shirts, but the implication is there, and I need to mention that the shirt idea most likely originated from a grass roots moron with no real connection to the politicians. No matte how much you hate Bush, you have to logically see that his administration would not support something like that.
Date: 8/2/2004 6:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 5886    I guess I'll start wearing my "I murder people!" shirt again. Same message basicly.
Date: 8/13/2004 10:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 29262    I think abortions are so stupid and it should be banned. I understand maybe if it was going to kill the parents they should but unless it comes to that they shouldn't get abortions. I think they are wrong and if they wear a shirt to be proud of it, they are sick. Very sick. They should be charged with murder. It's not the kids fault their mom didn't want em' I think if the parent didn't want them give em' up for adoption. The baby shouldn't be punished because their mom made a mistake or whatever it was..
Date: 8/22/2004 9:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 16373    Well, no matter how u look at abortions its MURDER! The baby is already forming so its still murder. There is gunna be alot of ppl accused of murder on judgment day. I would never do anything like that. That is just awful! BeeBop
Date: 8/22/2004 9:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    I simply wonder what person would wear a shirt like that. And why?
Date: 9/1/2004 4:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 31145    My beliefs on abortion are definitly prochoice. I think that a person has the right to choose if they want one or not. Just because alot of you are against abortion doesnt make it wrong. Its the different views different opinions. Just because you dont agree with something doesnt mean you have to broadcast your feelings to the public. Their life, Their choices, none of your business since it doesnt affect YOUR life in anyway.
I do agree that the tshirts are a bit untasteful, but come on.. there are plenty of untasteful tshirts out there that have nothing to do with abortion. I think if someone wants to wear it, then SO WHAT. Its only a shirt.

Date: 7/6/2005 8:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 16376    I think that is so wrong...
