I get bronchitis very easily and get it a couple times a year and always have. Sometimes I just get an antibiotic, sometimes I get a shot and sent home with an antibiotic. I always have albuterol on hand for breathing treatments but I have a machine not an inhaler. I also get a cough medicine usually with codeine in it but it doesn't help much. I hope she feels better and I'd definitely go to a different dr. Sometimes breathing in steam will provide a little relief also. |

I get bronchitis once in awhile..go to the doctor he gives me ampicillan and it's over with in a couple of days...Most doctors can diagnose a problem with the lungs just by the symptoms, and by listening to them, without the need for expensive tests.... |

I get chronic bronchitis around Sept and Oct of every year. The doctor usually starts with a chest xray and then does some blood work and a throat culture. I normally get an antibiotic, cough med and an inhaler or two. I hope she gets better fast!! It sure isn't fun to be sick!! |

I get pneumonia a couple or three times a year..every year.....and also I have chronic bronchitis....yes the dr. should be able to diagnose to a certain degree without the expensive testing...however....an xray should be taken.....and they usually take it onlly when they hear something in the chest.... |

She needs a chest x-ray, that is certain. Keflex ( cephalexin I believe) is the drug of choice for pneumonia, I've heard. I've only had pneumonia once, but I will never forget it, I was so sick! I hope she feels better soon, she is in my prayers, and please keep us posted!--- Summer Sunset |

Many antibioticsa that work for kidney/bladder infections will also work for other infections, they are known as 'broad spectrum' antibiotics, meaning that they have a wide range of uses. 'Salbutamol' is a standard drug used to open up the airways, it is what asthmatics use but can be equally useful in lung infections where the passageways get clogged up. Often if the air is dry it can make this type of illness worse, get her to try sitting near a bowl of steaming water to help loosen and congestion. SOmetimes when a person has had a cough for a long time the lungs just get SO irritated that the cough goes on and on, it almost feels as if your 'lungs want to sneeze'. There is an inhaler that the doc can prescribe which calms this feeling and it might be something that she wants to ask abut. Basically, the more she is able to keep her environment irritant free the better. |

I have pleurisy and bronchitis. However I have had the pleurisy for 4 months now. I complained to my doctor back in April about pain on the left side of my chest and he told me it was muscular and to call him back on monday (this was a friday), I did and at that time I mentioned pleurisy, as several people had mentioned that it sounded like that was what I had. He told me no, that pleurisy came from having bronchitis or another upper respiratory infection, kinda the way that pneumonia usually comes after something like that too. Since it had been since January since I had had anything like bronchitis he didn't think it was that. 3 days later I came down with a run of the bronchitis and I JUST got over it the second week of June and here I am sick again! So I went in to see him this time. (mind you this is the 4th or 5th time I have had bronchitis since July of last year and I have never had any treatment for it, I always let it runs it's course) I have bronchitis, he felt around on the left side of my chest and says "Oh feels like we have some pleurisy going on here!" And I told him, "I told you 4 months ago that I had pleurisy!" He also told me I have the onset of emphysema. Given the history of the bronchitis, how many times I've had it and been untreated and the fact that I've had pleurisy for the last 4 months....to giving me a nebulizer treatment in the office, an inhaler and antibiotic to go home with, make no follow up appointments to re-check my lungs, and do nothing to check and make sure that is all I have. I am just nervous that I am walking around with pneumonia.....my mom has been walking around with it for 2 months! I didn't go to the ER today because I did feel sooooooo much better when I woke up, but it still has me nervous that at the very least he could have done a chest x-ray, or given me a follow-up appointment to make sure that the pleurisy actually goes away. |

4 or 5 times being a sick in the year, probably doesn't seem like a big deal. But given the fact that I didn't receive any antibiotics for it each time I got sick I had it for 6 PLUS weeks. So by the time I got rid of one, I had little more than a two week break before getting sick again. It just seems to me that chronic untreated bronchitis and the all the reoccurances could be because I have pneumonia too. Thanks for posting this for me Cat....I love ya! |

i get pneumonia easily as i have asbestosis , plural thickening , latural scaring , and had a couple bouts with the big c word in my lungs. they have me on 3 different inhalers , i do breathing treatments as needed at home , ocasionaly i use the oxygen machine although not as often as i should , and 11 other meds. tell her to go to a dr. that treats pulmanary so they can get a correct diognostic result. it's nothing to prolong if it can be treated now. hope she is feeling better soon. lovinghugs , wooden nickel |

Wow Zeebs, I get bronchistis every Sept/Oct too and have no idea why, but it's always like clock work. They always give me antibiotics too. But they generally do an xray also, just to be sure. Twice it turned into bronchial pneumonia..ugh. Hope she feels better very soon. Big hugs, |

I used to get bronchitis 2-3 times a year and have had pneumonia 8 times, and yes, my doctor always sent me for a chest x-ray, especially if he suspected pneumonia. I was usually prescribed an antibiotic called biaxin and always had to go back in a week for a re-check. For the past 2 years I have been taking something called 4-herb tea concentrate. I take 2 tablespoons every day and have not had even a single cold since I started taking it. It is great stuff! You can get it at herbalhealer.com. I hope she feels better soon! |
