I us to defend them, because it was a way to have your work published and it didn't cost you a dime unless you wanted it to, but this is just too much.  |

i want them to be exposed so bad. My bestfriend submits her poetry all the time to them and they send her stuff telling her they can buy the book they will publish her poem in for just 85 bucks and im just like please dont fall for this its rediculous. They are going to end up the richest people in the world.  |

only 160 dollars for your own poetry silver award bowl, a commemorative award medallion, a full year membership to THE international society of poets, and the opportunity to have a professional poetry reader read your poem with IMAGINATIVE style to an international audience of people from 45 different countries...man, I say that's a pretty good deal! Afterall, it doesn't come to cheap to have your vanity tickled.  |

lmbo! glad someone else notices what a farce this so called company is/was. I submitted a poem a couple of years ago and they said that the only way for me to see my work in writing was to purchase a book or whatever. As you said...Give me a break!! I ignored them from then on.  |

Pammie, me and my daughter both have had a Poem published through a place on the net called Poetic Power and they have never asked either one of us for a dime !!! If they choose your work they send you notification that you were chosen to be Published and then you have the option to buy a copy of the book if you want one, but even if you don't, they still publish your Poem in that book !!! And they are very nice hardback editions...we have bought all of ours so far and thier great !!! Also if you are chosen as one of thier top ten...I believe it is...then you get a book free and a whole page in it for yourself !!! Pretty cool!!! I have had one published so far and my daughter has had three or so published !!! She learned about it from School !!! They have Adult entrys too !!! Thanks for the post; it is much needed, but don't be mad. Just realize that there are morons like that out there that could NEVER steal the talent that you have inside, and begin chanelling your energy toward those places that will accept your work for what it is. Then you can laugh in their faces since they don't have the kind of grit and talent it takes to make it on your own merit.  |

think about this, too-- getting your poetry published generally isn't a measure of its worth. Poetry is a very hard sell. Outside of a few very highly-esteemed poets, very few people are able to get stuff published, much less make a living out of it. What little does make it into the mainstream tends to be crud that sells because of the celebrity status of its authors rather than its quality (I like to call them vanity projects)-- look at Jewel's poetry, or Suzanne Summers (gag!) |

Thanks for all your input guys...yes, these guys are scum..pond scum. They get people's expectations sky high and then let em drop with a huge thud!! I do feel for all the very young people that get really excited and think they've done something great, only to get let down...that is truly the tragedy in all of this. I wish there was some way to close them down for good. They will publish anyone and everyone...for a price. It makes me sick!! There really should be a place on the internet where you can report scmas like this one...I guess what their doing isn't really illegal, but it sure is slimey. Thanks slickchick for that info.
