I actually found out that I was born without wisdom teeth. Everyone else in my family has 2 or 3 of them, but I was lucky... So, I can't tell ya how it feels, but it sounds painful. ![]() |

Yes, I had wisdom teeth that came in sideways, and I had to have them extracted. I worried about it for three weeks, heard all kinds of horror stories from friends, and was sure that I was going to lose 20 pounds because I couldn't eat. In fact, they used nitrous oxide (laughing gas) on me, and the whole operation lasted less than 15 minutes! I got a prescription for a painkiller (Percodan--a powerful narctotic!) but I only used it for two days. Inside of a week, I was eating hot pizza with no trouble at all. Relax! You're going to be fine! ![]() |

I had a couple removed. The worst part of it is the pain from the needle when the dentist shoots you up with novacaine. I have a tooth right now that is killing me. ![]() |

How do they extract it? Do they just cut open your gums and remove the teeth? And how bad is the swelling? ![]() |

They cut my gums and yanked out my teeth. The swelling on the first day was pretty bad but went down after that. It swells a bit and it hurts a bit but its not like you will look like a squirl for a month or feel like a squished squirl lol. The one thing I suggest is to take the pain meds BEFORE you start hurting again. ![]() |

I've had all four wisdom teeths pulled out and my cheeks made me look like a chipmonk! LOL! I wasn't worried, I was acutally excited about it for some reason. It hurt after a couple days later. They cut my gums and yanked my teeths out. I remember pulling some of the stitchings out on my own., which isn't a good thing to do..lol. You'll be fine. If you're a smoker, you dont want to smoke for a while. ![]() |

I remember worst of all the sound, the sound of the dentistry work being done, you can hear the extraction happening, but just remember that a lot of people go through it and it will not last too long. Good luck with everything :) ![]() |

Speaking of Wisdoms. One of mine is growing in. Only 1 tho.. I don't think it's that bad.. I'm like you, really scared. They shoot me up with lots of novacaine and I still end up feeling the pain. So they shoot me up with some more. I don't kno about the cutting gums part but one of my baby teeth wouldn't fall out it was wiggly for the longest time and there was a little space. So they gave me a needle between that space..*OUCH* and they pulled it I just felt a bit of pressure when they pulled it and I was fine. but all teh cutting gums part I do not know. Good luck! *Canuck Hugs* -des PS: Don't do it during Christmas! ya wanna be painless during christmas! ![]() |

Your cheeks might bruise a little, as some people I know that went through it had that bruising.. when mine were removed they did not bruise much at all. Have your dentist heavily medicate you with novacaine, Lol.. it lasts a long time after you are out of the dentist office. As soon as you start to feel the numbing go away, take one of the pills he gave you for pain. Try to remain quiet for the first 24 hours if you can, as the less air that enters the mouth, the less chance for airborne infection of bacteria to settle in. Rinse your mouth out with lukewarm water every so often and gently swoosh it around your mouth. Try not to use straws as the sucking motion will cause a dry pocket in th ehealing, and that causes pain too. Another remedy to relieve the pain of dry socket is to lay a rung out, wet teabag on the area a few minutes, it draws out the bacterias naturally present in the mouth that can cause pain to the newly cut area. The pain is pretty intense the first 12 hours, but slowly decreases if you do not move your jaw too much, and drink soup broth with crackers soaked in the broth to give your stomach that fullness and to have something warm in your tummy (-: No chewing the first day or two, otherwise you could interupt the healing process that takes about two days to notice it. By the end of the first week, there will be tenderness, but it will be tolerated ok.. now I talked my mouth off, Lol.. sorry! ![]() |

The holes will feel large to yourt tongue when it roams there, as it will, Lol.. the tongue automatically has to explore all things in the mouth, as it is its turf (-: Within a month, you will notice that the skin grew over it well and is starting to "harden " up a bit. Try to control the tongue to leave the area alone, Lol.. that is not as easy as it sounds as you will find out. ![]() |

All four of my wisdom teeth were impacted, so I had to go to the oral surgeon to get them out. What they did to me was give me nitrous oxide and then they gave me IV sedation, so I was gone in like 20 seconds. What they do is they cut a hole in the side of your gum, then they usually cut the tooth in half to make it easier to remove and they pull the tooth out along with the roots and part of the bone too. Then they sew you up. I'd lie, but honestly, getting my teeth out was horrible. I was swollen badly for two weeks, and the insides of my cheeks were so swollen that I couldn't close my mouth without biting on my cheeks, so I had to have my mouth open for about 5 days. They gave me Percoset to take, and I took it once, but that made me throw up because you have to take it with food and I couldn't eat food. I didn't eat solid food for about a week and a half and I still couldn't chew for about two weeks. I couldn't sleep through the night because I couldn't get comfortable at all, so I ended up awake at 3 every morning watching all the infomercials. And swish with the salt water when you can, because it really helps it heal faster. But luckily, you'll only have to do it once. lol, that's all I can say. I want to be a dentist, and I went to dental camp a few weeks ago and they had pictures and videos of someone getting their wisdom teeth out and it was really cool. Go to an oral surgeon if you can because even though your regular dentist can take out wisdom teeth, it's so much easier for a surgeon because that's basically all they do. They can whip those things out in less than half the time than a general dentist. Plus, they're probably much more experienced. But yeah, if you have any more questions message me... ![]() |

I had all four removed a few months ago. Everyone told me it was gonna be so horrible and painful, but I went shopping the next day.. lol. I didn't even really swell that bad.. and I didn't even take one painkiller out of the whole bottle of Vicodin. ![]() |

In a nutshell, no matter what happens, it's ONLY TEMPORARY. A day or so. I guarantee that your fear is far worse than the reality of it, like most people. ![]() |

Hi Megan, It's Danielle. I just read your story on wisdom teeth and I have to say that wisdom teeth can be evil. I have one on the top right that has been growing in for a year now and for some reason it hurts like crazy. My hmong dentist in Sheboygan says my wisdom tooth is fine and the others are coming in soon. I just hope I don't have to get them pulled because I only have 24 teeth and full set of teeth is 32. Did you know Cheryl & Micah moved to Tenessee in June... I guess? That is what Cheryl told me in an email. How I am so thankful that there gone!! I am sorry to ask again but what are the 3 titles of the books that need to be read in high school? I had them written down, but somehow lost the list? The only one I can remember is the Night book. I was just wondering if it's true that for each hour of college homework...that it requires 3-6 hours per subject? Also, is it true that for the days that you don't go to school, you still have a ton of homework? If it is, how can someone go to work and still earn a living? Did you live in a dorm in the 1st year? Did you get a meal card for 3 meals a day..or 2 meals? I know that you moved to an apartment recently, but are you forced to live in a dorm for the 1st year? I think that is all I need to ask for now. Just a few more weeks until I start my last year of school...on Wed. Sept. 1...I can't believe that we get out early on the 1st day too. It seems kind of strange. A week after that is my 18th birthday!! A week after that I am FINALLY taking my road test in Chilton...hopefully I will be borrowing my friends car. Did you pass on the 1st try? Where did you take yours? I am a little scared, but yet excited!!!! I also quit my bakery job on June 26..it was hotter then HELL in the place, so now I am looking for another job. I may work at the new store that just opened in June called Dollar General, but I have to be 18. ![]() |
