It was too hard for me to figure out what fat was good and bad. I know that olive oil, peanut butter, and nuts are in the healtier fats, but i don't remember how much you should have. I just always check the labels and go for the less fatty and calorie foods. The best advice I can give you is to find a buddy. I tried every thing and never got any where untill I food a friend to work with. Ii have a friend who just happens to be a certified personal trainer. She makes a fortune training women out of her home. They love to go to her because it is a less intimidating enviroment. If I work out with her the time flies and it seems so easy. She checks my food intake and everything. Beleive it oor not you need to eat more to build your matabolism and be able to lose. Drink all of your 8 glasses of water. I hated water at first but now I love it and crystal light can count as water as well. Anyway when i drank all my water and did'nt skip breakfast, I found that i did'nt feel near as hungry and I had alot less cravings for the sweet stuff. You should also keep a food diary. I can direct you to a sheet to copy if you like. It all seems like alot of work but once you get a routine down it seems like nothing. I can do things I never thought i could. Good luck to you. Love and smiles :o) |

The best thing for you to do, is research. But it would be better if you just asked your doctor, he could give you a diet that better suits your condition, besides you always want to run new things by your doctor to see if they are right for you. |

hello Adrienne-- the magic number for fat is ***30 percent*** of daily calorie intake. Of course, what that means is a little mystifying, so let me break it down for you: there are 9 calories in every gram of fat. Therefore to figure out how many grams of fat you are allowed total, you need to multiply the amount of your daily calorie intake by 30 percent, and then divide this number by 9. Example: if you consume 1600 calories, multiply 1600 by .30. This will give you 480. Divide 480 by 9 and you will get 53.333333.... Therefore, you are allowed up to 53 grams of fat each day. Of course, you can go under, though I wouldn't recommend less than 25 percent of fat from calories, unless your doctor recommends a special diet. And Angelbelle is right-- some kinds of fat are worse than others. Nuts and avacados contain the healthiest kind of fat. Look out on food labels for saturated fats and ESPECIALLY (dum, du, dum, dum)....MONOSATURATED fats. These kinds of fats are the worst-- they think they may be the primary cause of heart disease-- and pop up often in processed foods, such as Oreo cookies. Unfortunately, up till now many manufactures haven't included them on the label, but I think they're passing legislation to change that. You can visit the USDA site for this information and more!-- http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/food/food-pyramid/main.htm |

oops, that last part should say "hydrogenated fat" rather than "monosaturated" |

I lost about 50 pounds by eating an extremely low fat diet. I was down to about 20 grams a day. I also exercise. I then cut out refined sugars and dropped another 10. I think that everyone is different and you have to just find a diet that works for your body. Exercise is also essential. |

I lost about 100 pounds before my junior year of college and have kept it off and replaced it with muscle in the 8 years since then. I didn't really count grams and calories as much as I made choices to eliminate obviously bad foods and replace them with good foods and exercise. That was the key to me. Cut out fast food and soft drinks. Cut out sweets and sugars for the most part. Started a regular exercise routine. Good luck with it. -DeltaRebel |
