Way Too Much Stress..... Any Advice?

Hi everyone, I have a question: how do you reduce/relieve stress?

I am having a very difficult time with stress. Things haven't been going to well here. All kinds of heartache, problems, bad news. I have been struggling with stress for a long time and it is starting to physically effect me. I have chronic headaches/migraines and have been placed on anti-seizure medication and given pain killers for the pain. They think I might have nerve damage or neurological problems. I am already dealing with so much and the stress is really hurting me. I am having trouble concentrating, mixing up words, forgetting how to spell simple things, my vision changes, and I can feel the strain on me. I am also in college.

Stress is the number one killer in America. My question is does anyone have any advice how to reduce/relieve stress? We all have to deal with stress on an everyday basis and I am also hoping by asking this question this post will help others dealing with this problem.

Thank you so much everyone :)

Date: 9/28/2004 8:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 28190    When I get severely stressed out, I either take a hot bubble bath with scented candles, or go for a short walk and just let the breeze blow away some of it. Im sorry you are going through so much, and I hope it gets better for you hun. *huge hugs*
Date: 9/28/2004 9:36:00 PM  ( SD-Admin )   Take a bit more time for you and embrace the fruitcake lady on Leno...:)
Date: 9/28/2004 9:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 20956    this might sound like the LAST thing you'd want to do but trust me the best stress buster is exercise. I jog out my stress. If you're not fit enough to jog, just go for a brisk half hour walk around your neighbourhood or go to the gym if you want. What ever is best for you but i can guarentee that when you come back from your exercising, you will feel a billion times better!! :)
Date: 9/28/2004 10:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    I agree with Sun Angel, exercise is great.
Date: 9/28/2004 10:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 36704    I also agree with Sun Angel that exercise is a great stress reliever but if her headaches are anything like mine, the only thing exercise is gonna do is have her puking her guts out.
Date: 9/29/2004 5:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 62876    I also have to agree with SunAngel. I have been in a vicious cycle lately, where I am extremely stressed out, and it makes me extremely worn down and too tired to work out. I KNOW that I need to exercise, because that is the only thing that will make me feel better. I wish you luck - you are so young to have so much stress, too! Take care...HipChik
Date: 9/29/2004 6:00:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 11097    Hi Base, I have tried meditating and it did help relax me a little bit, I should try doing it more often and see if it helps. Thanks :) Hi Sun Angel and Brenda... I have tried exercise and it does help me feel better but with my headaches it makes me feel worse (kinda complicating) usually when I go from kneeling to standing in a fast motion I get a "rush" feeling in my head and I get dizzy and bad pains in my head. My headaches are bad and often like Base said it makes me feel worse to move around, and sometimes I'm okay and sometimes it makes me feel better. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it! :)
Date: 9/29/2004 6:04:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 11097    Hi Amanda! :) yes I have found that hot baths help a lot and I am going to start walking, doing some exercise, like everyone suggested. I also like to write a lot, I am thinking about starting a journal to help get all this stress out in words. Thank you so much for the advice (((hugs)))!

Date: 9/29/2004 6:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 37843    I read it a magazine once that coloring reduces stress, then I tried it and it really works, so if I were you I would get a coloring book and a crayola 64 pack of crayons and color for a couple hours, it really works.
Date: 9/30/2004 7:35:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 11097    Hi Whyte Penguin, thats a really good idea! I think I am going try this out :) thanks for helping!
