ANSWER TO AUTHOR 16160'S (*Angelclaw*) "BIBLE CONTRADICTIONS"

  Author:  962  Category:(Religious) Created:(10/4/2000 10:19:00 AM)

UPDATE: Everyone has been mistaking my post for something else, this is ANSWER to the bible contradictions. I am FOR Christ and NOT AGAINST Christ. I hve spent a night researching on this, I typed it in a question and answer form! My responses are 962 (x!). Please take time to read it.

>>>>>

this is x! and as i've promised to 16160, here is the answers to his precious site's "BIBLE CONTRADICTION."

Christians, I would definitely appreciate the time you'd spend on reading this :)

To all, God loves you.

>>>>>>>>>>> INTRODUCTION

16160 (ANGELCLAW): The bible doesn't contradict you say? Are we reading the same one? For those who didn't believe I know the bible, blow the dust of those ol' books because I listed some bible contradictions,<some major, some minor> flaws in gods oh so perfect free of flaw word. This is long...Enjoy!

962 (x!): Yes the bible doesn't contradict itself. I am using NAB (New American Bible) and in the front page it reads: Translated from the Original Languages with Critical Use of All the Ancient Sources. I also have another NAB, a KJV and a NIV in my table. And btw my bible is not dusty :)

>>>>>>>>>>> ON CREATION

16160 (ANGELCLAW): GE 1:3-5 On the first day, God created light, then separated light and darkness. GE 1:14-19 The sun (which separates night and day) wasn't created until the fourth day.

962 (x!): In Gn 1:3-5, God created the LIGHT (DAY) and the darkness He called night. In the second verse, Gn 1:14-19, God created the sun for the day and the moon and stars for the night. *Now, do you buy furniture when you don't have a house to put it into? Or do you buy a CD when you don't have a CD player? The day and night was made first before the sun, moon and stars - makes sense doesn't it?

16160 (ANGELCLAW): GE 1:11-12, 26-27 Trees were created before man was created. GE 2:4-9 Man was created before trees were created. GE 1:20-21, 26-27 Birds were created before man was created. GE 2:7, 19 Man was created before birds were created. GE 1:24-27 Animals were created before man was created. GE 2:7, 19 Man was created before animals were created. GE 1:26-27 Man and woman were created at the same time. GE 2:7, 21-22 Man was created first, woman sometime later.

962 (x!): NAB explains, "Chapter 2:4b-25 is chiefly concerned with the creation of man. It is much older than the narrative of Gn 1:1 - 2:4a. Here God is DEPICTED as creating man before the rest of his creatures, which are made for man's sake. Chapter 1 shows how God brought an orderly universe out of primordial chaos." *Wow, I'm learning from my own post :)

>>>>>>>>>>> ON CAIN AND ABEL

16160 (ANGELCLAW): GE 4:9 God asks Cain where his brother Able is PR 15:3, JE 16:17, 23:24-25, HE 4:13 God is everywhere. He sees everything. Nothing is hidden from his view.

962 (x!): Gn 4:10 reads, "The Lord then said: 'What have you done! Listen: Your brother's blood cries out to me from the soil!" *You yourself testified, "God is everywhere, He sees everything, Nothing is hidden from his view..." - true enough, isn't it? His question in Gn 4:9 "Where is your brother Abel?" doesn't suggest God's ignorance of where Abel is. Read the next verse, He knows after all doesn't He? Then it is not because of ignorance, He asked that on purpose.

>>>>>>>>>>> ON MOSES

16160 (ANGELCLAW): EX 3:1 Jethro was the father-in-law of Moses. NU 10:29, JG 4:11 (KJV) Hobab was the father-in-law of Moses.

962 (x!): NAB version - Nm 10:29 reads, "Moses said to his BROTHER-IN-LAW Hobab, son of Reuel (Jethro) the Midianite, 'We are setting out for the place which the Lord has promised to give us ...' KJV version - Nm 10:29 reads, "And Moses said unto Hobab, the son of Ragu'el the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, 'We are journeying unto the place ...." *PRETTY CLEAR, ISN'T IT?!

>>>>>>>>>>> ON SIN

16160 (ANGELCLAW): EX 20:5, 34:7, NU 14:18, DT 5:9, IS 14:21-22 Children are to suffer for their parent's sins. DT 24:16, EZ 18:19-20 Children are not to suffer for their parent's sins.

962 (x!): Dt 24:16 reads, "Fathers should not be put to death for their children, nor children for their father's; only for his own guilt shall a man be put to death" --- This verse talks about HUMAN LAW and HUMAN PUNISHMENT Dt 20:5 reads, "...I the Lord, your God, am a jealous God, inflicting punishment for their fathers' wickedness on the children of those who hate me, down to third and fourth generation: --- This verse on the other hand talks about EFFECTS OF SIN *2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TOPICS AREN'T THEY?

>>>>>>>>>>> ON AARON

16160 (ANGELCLAW): NU 33:38 Aaron died on Mt. Hor. DT 10:6 Aaron died in Mosera.

962 (x!): NAB explains, "Moserah is apparently the name of the region in which Mt. Hor is situated."

>>>>>>>>>>> ON SOLOMON

16160 (ANGELCLAW): 1KI 4:26 Solomon had 40,000 horses (or stalls for horses). 2CH 9:25 He had 4,000 horses (or stalls for horses).

962 (x!): There is no 1 Kgs 4:26, the verse you are pertaining too is 1 Kgs 5:6 and it reads, "Solomon had four thousand stalls for his twelve thousand chariot horses." 2 Chr 9:25 reads, "... Solomon also had four thousand stalls of horses, chariots and twelve thousand horsemen..." *No way these two verses are contradicting each other aren't they?!

>>>>>>>>>>> ON BAASHA AND ASA

16160 (ANGELCLAW): 1KI 16:6-8 Baasha died in the 26th year of King Asa's reign. 2CH 16:1 Baasha built a city in the 36th year of King Asa's reign.

962 (x!): 1 Kgs 16:8 reads, "In the 26th year of Asa, king of Judah, Elah son of Baasha began his two year reign..." --- 26th year of Asa as King of Judah. 2 Chr 16:1 reads, "In the 36th year of Asa's reign, Bahash, King of Israel attacked Judah ..." --- 36th year of Asa's reign inclusive of the 16 years he reigned as King of Jerusalem. (2 Kgs 16:2) *It takes a lil English and and a little Math to get it, eh?

>>>>>>>>>>> ON AHAZIAH

16160 (ANGELCLAW): 2KI 8:25-26 Ahaziah was 22 years old when he began his reign. 2CH 22:1 He was 42 when he began his reign.

962 (x!): 2 Kgs 8:25-26 reads, "He was 22 years old when he began his reign ..." 2 Chr 22:2 reads, "...he was 22 years old when he became king and reigned ..." *Too directly similar to doubt :)

>>>>>>>>>>> ON JEHOIACHIN

16160 (ANGELCLAW): 2KI 24:8 Jehoiachin (Jehoiakim) reigned three months. 2CH 36:9 He reigned three months and ten days. 2KI 24:8 Jehoiachin (Jehoiakim) was eighteen years old when he began to reign. 2CH 36:9 He was eight. (Note: This discrepancy has been "corrected" in some versions.)

962 (x!): 2 Kgs 24:8 reads, "Jehoiachin was 18 years old when he began to reign and he reigned three months in Jerusalem ..." 2 Chr 36:9 reads, "Jehoiachin was 18 years old when he reigned three month [and ten days] in Jerusalem ..." * Are you having problems with the extra 10 days? Assuming you just turned 20 on your birthday, after 10 days are you still 20? Or you will also argue with me and say "No! I am not 20, I am 20 years and 10 days." Or you would still want to argue about the minutes and the seconds too? As for the 18, Old NAB's still reads 18, no discrepancy sorry :)

>>>>>>>>>>> ON JOSEPH

16160 (ANGELCLAW): MT 1:16 Jacob was Joseph's father. LK 3:23 Heli was Joseph's father. MT 1:17 There were twenty-eight generations from David to Jesus. LK 3:23-38 There were forty-three.

962 (x!): NAB explains, "In keeping with Jesus' prophetic role in Luke and Acts, Luke traces Jesus' Davidic ancestry through the prophet Nathan rather than through King Solomon."

>>>>>>>>>>> ON JESUS' GENEALOGY

16160 (ANGELCLAW): MT 1:17 There were twenty-eight generations from David to Jesus. LK 3:23-38 There were forty-three.

962 (x!): Again NAB explains, "Whereas Mt 1,2 begins the genealogy of Jesus with Abraham to emphasize Jesus' bonds with the people of Israel, Luke's universalism leads him to trace the descent of Jesus beyond Israel to Adam and beyond that to God (38) to stress again Jesus' divine sonship. >>>>>>>>>>> ON CROWS AND DENIALS

16160 (ANGELCLAW): MT 26:74 The cock crowed once. MK 14:72 The cock crowed twice.

962 (x!): Mt 26:74 reads, "... and immediately a cock crowed" Mt 15:74 reads, "... and immediately a cock crowed a second time" continues, "... Then Peter remembered the word that Jesus had said to him, 'Before the cock crows twice you will deny me three times.'" *And indeed in both gospels Peter denied Him three times before the cock crowed twice, Jesus didn't specify the exact number of times the cock will crow so there is no use in arguing about this, coz how many times the cock crowed, Jesus' words still came out to be true :) >>>>>>>>>>> ON JESUS' LAST WORDS

16160 (ANGELCLAW): MT 27:46-50, MK 15:34-37 Jesus' last recorded words are: "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" LK 23:46 "Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit." JN 19:30 "It is finished." (Note: Even though both MT and MK represent direct quotes and are translated similarly, the actual Greek words used for God are different. MT uses "Eli" and MK uses "Eloi.")

962 (x!): Mk 15:34 reads, "And at three o'clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice 'Eloi, Eloi lema sabachthani ...'" Mk 15:37 reads, "Jesus gave a LOUD CRY and breathed His last..." Lk 23:46 reads, "Jesus CRIED OUT IN A LOUD VOICE, 'Father, into your hands I COMMEND MY SPIRIT' and when He said this He breathed His last. Jn 19:30 reads, "...He said 'It is finished.' And bowing his head, HE HANDED OVER THE SPIRIT." *I can probably ask a 3 year old kid to arrange the events in right sequence and no doubt he would get the correct order :) you're not in any way younger than 3 are you?!

>>>>>>>>>>> ON ELOI and ELI

16160 (ANGELCLAW): (Note: Even though both MT and MK represent direct quotes and are translated similarly, the actual Greek words used for God are different. MT uses "Eli" and MK uses "Eloi.")

962 (x!): NAB explains, "Jesus cries out in the words of Ps 22:2a, a psalm of lament that is the OT passage most frequently drawn upon in this narrative. In Mark, the verse is cited entirely in Aramaic, which Matthew partially retains but changes the invocation of God to the Hebrew Eli, possibly because that is more easily related to the statement of the following verse about Jesus' calling for Elijah." *Greek?

>>>>>>>>>>> ON THE DISCIPLE'S DESTINATION

16160 (ANGELCLAW): MK 6:53 After the feeding of the 5000, Jesus and the disciples went to Gennesaret. JN 6:17-25 They went to Capernaum.

962 (x!): *Find a map of Palestine in the time of Christ Jn 6:16-17 reads, "When it was evening, his discples went down to the sea, embarked in a boat, and went across the sea to Capernaum" Mk 6:45 reads, "Then he made his disciples get into the boat and precede him to the other side toward Betsaida while he dismiss the crowd" NAB explains, "Bethsaida is a village at the northeastern shore of the Sea of Galilee" *From where the disciples came from, Capernaum is located towards the direction of Bethsaida --- no problem with this unless you don't speak English :)

>>>>>>>>>>> ON JESUS AS MAN OR GOD INCARNATE

16160 (ANGELCLAW): JN 1:1 Jesus was God incarnate. AC 2:22 Jesus was a man approved by God.

962 (x!): Acts 2:22 reads, "You who are Israelites, hear these words, Jesus the Nazorean was a man commended by God with mighty deeds, wonder and signs which God worked through Him in your midst, as you yourselves know." John 1:1 reads, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (1:2) He was in the beginning with God. *You have just testified to the Mystery of the Most Holy Trinity - One God in Three Persons. You have just also testified to the church's doctrine on Jesus as both human and Divine.

>>>>>>>>>>> ON JESUS AS JUDGE

16160 (ANGELCLAW): JN 3:17, 8:15, 12:47 Jesus does not judge. JN 5:22, 5:27-30, 9:39, AC 10:42, 2CO 5:10 Jesus does judge.

962 (x!): *I don't think we even have to discuss this, we Christians are preparing for the Judgement Day, as the Apostle Creed states "He will come again to judge the living and the dead..." Jn 3:17 reads, "For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him..." Jn 8:5 reads, "You judge by appearances, but I dont judge anyone..." NAB explains, "Here, the emphasis is that the judgement is not by material standards."

>>>>>>>>>>> ON MISSING VERSE

16160 (ANGELCLAW): JA 4:5 (Quotes an alleged scripture (OT) verse; not found in the OT.)

962 (x!): NAB explains, "The meaning of this saying is difficult because the author of James cites, probably from memory, a passage that is not in any extant manuscript of the Bible. Other translation of the text with a completely different meaning are possible: 'The Spirit that he (God) made to dwell in us yearns (for us) jealousy,' or 'He (God) yearns jealousy for the spirit that he has made to dwell in us.' If this last translation is correct, the author perhaps had in mind an apocryphal religious text that echoes the idea that God is zealous for His creatures."

>>>>>>>>>>> ON INSECTS

16160 (ANGELCLAW): LE 11:20-21 There are winged creatures (birds or insects) that go around on all fours. (Note: There are no birds that go around on four legs, and all insects have six legs.)

962 (x!): Lv 11:20-21 reads, "The various winged insects that walk on all fours are loathsome for you. But of the various winged insects that walk on all fours you may eat those that have jointed legs for leaping on the ground ..." *Sorry birds in this verse are not include; "walk on all fours" - with paired legs

>>>>>>>>>>> ON SOLOMON'S TEMPLE

16160 (ANGELCLAW): 1KI 6:2, 2CH 3:3 Solomon's temple was only about ninety feet long by thirty feet wide, and yet -- 1KI 5:15-16 153,300 persons were employed to build it. 1KI 6:38 It took seven years to build. 1CH 22:14 13,100,000 lbs. of gold and 116,400,000 lbs. of silver were consumed in its construction. 1CH 23:4 24,000 supervisors and 6,000 officials and judges were employed to manage it.

962 (x!): *What's your problem with it? To have as temple as big as that during those times, you have to be a king ... and wasn't he?

>>>>>>>>>>> ON AHAZ AS A YOUNG FATHER

16160 (ANGELCLAW): 2KI 16:2, 20, 18:1-2 Ahaz was thirty-six years old when he died. His twenty-five year old son Hezekiah succeeded him. Thus Ahaz was a ten or eleven year old father.

962 (x!): *AHAZ IS NOT A TEN-YEAR OLD FATHER :) 2 Kgs 16:2 reads, "Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king and he reigned 16 years in Jerusalem." *Ahaz reigned 46 years all in all, 16 years as King of Jerusalem and the rest as King of Judah. 2 Chr 16:13 reads, "Asa rested with his ancestors; he died in the forty-first year of his reign" *Therefore he was definitely in a good age when he became a father :)

>>>>>>>>>>> ON AHAZIAH BEING OLDER THAN HIS FATHER

16160 (ANGELCLAW): Ahaziah was forty-two when he became king; he succeeded his father, who died at the age of forty. Thus, Ahaziah was two years older than his father.

962 (x!): 2 Chr 21:20 reads, "Jehoaz was 32 years old when he became king and he reigned 8 years in Jerusalem. (22:1-2) Then the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah, his youngest son, king in his stead ... thus Ahaziah, son of Jehoaz reigned as king of Judah. He was TWENTY-TWO YEARS OLD when he became king and reigned one year in Jerusalem. *Jehoaz was way older than Ahaziah, was it not?

>>>>>>>>>>> ON MELTING SNAILS

16160 (ANGELCLAW): PS 58:8 Slugs and/or snails melt as they move.

962 (x!): Ps 58:9 reads, "Let them dissolve like a snail that oozes away." NAB explains, "Empty shells suggested to ANCIENTS that snails melted away as they left a slimy trait." *ancients...

>>>>>>>>>>> LASTLY, ON HEAVEN

16160 (ANGELCLAW): RE 21:16 Heaven is only about 1500 miles square.

962 (x!): Rev 21:16 reads, "The city was square, its length the same as also its width. He measured the city with the rod and found it fifteen hundred miles in length and width and height." NAB explains, "The city is shaped like a gigantic cube, A SYMBOL OF PERFECTION. The measurement of the city and its wall are multiples of the symbolic number twelve." Introduction to the Book of Revelation NAB states, "symbolic descriptions are not to be taken as literal descriptions, nor is the symbolism meant to be pictured realistically. *16160, don't worry, heaven is not as small as you think it is. God has saved you a big space there, just make yourself worthy of that space and it will be yours in no time.

--------- + I Love You Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. +

There are still several other reasons why I don't believe the bible X, either contradictory parts or merely on principal. Yet, my hat is off to you in your strong beliefs, as well as the patience to run thru ALL of these. Bravo, once again.Sincerely, Angelclaw

Matthew 27:5 So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself. Acts 1:18 With the reward He got for his wickedness, Judas bought a fieldhere he fell headlong, his body burst open and his intestines spilled out. Now in one story he kept the money and bought a field and in the other story He gave the money back and the high priests bought the field. My question to You is which story is LYING.
