"MYUNCLE & I." Translated from Spanish, "MI TIO Y YO."

MY UNCLE & I:
WE ATE AND WE DRANK AND WE HAD US A TIME,
WE TOASTED TO LIFE AND TO FAMILY AND WINE;
MY UNCLE & I:
CELEBRATED YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND TOMOROW,
LAUGHING AND HUGGING WITHOUT A CARE OR A SORROW;
MY UNCLE & I:
WENT BACK AND FORTH COMPARING GREY HAIRS AND NOSES,
RECALLED TIMES WITH MY DAD, FROGS, WHISKEY, AND CHOICES;
MY UNCLE:
SAT BACK AND SMILED AS HE GLEEFULLY TOLD ME,
ABOUT ALL OF THE TROUBLE HIS BROTHERS COULD BE;
MY UNCLE:
AT THE END OF THE EVENING HAD A TOUGH CHOICE TO MAKE,
IN MEMORY OF MY DAD, A WRIST-WATCH TO TAKE;
MY UNCLE:
CHOSE THE DIGITAL ONE THAT I 'D JUST GONE OUT TO GET,
BUT HE'S STILL WEARING THE ONE FROM THE LAST TIME THEY'D MET;
AND I:
HAVE THE PLEASURE OF SHARING THAT NIGHT I HOLD DEAR,
OF GOOD FOOD AND WATCHES AND REALLY GOOD BEER;
MY UNCLE & I:
SAID OUR GOOD-BYES WITH THE IDEA IN MIND,
"TO GET TOGETHER" AND "DO THIS AGAIN SOMETIME";
AND I KNOW WE WILL-
MY UNCLE AND I:
AND HIS OLDER BOTHER WILL BE THERE NEXT TIME.

ARMANDO PASSED AWAY ON 10/14/00. BEFORE I TOOK HIM OUT TO DINNER A FEW WEEKS AGO
I HAD NOT SEEN MY UNCLE SINCE I WAS 5 OR 6 YEARS OLD.

Date: 10/20/2000 11:05:00 PM    I know all poems are "children" of their authoors, and they are all meaningful in different ways because all of them are born from a pure feeling. I personally know, that this one in particular, means a great deal for the person the felt and feels "these feelings". I have the great privilege to know the author and I know that you are waiting for this comment: sad and happy, think of the watch = time...... only time , to remember, to live, to laugh, to reunite.... I know that by now you are probably very emotionally, both of you, keep writing, I say it one more time., it's this the water to the heart..................great job!!

Date: 10/30/2000 12:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 16865    I am all misty eyed now. Reminds me of Uncle Moose. He died a week before he was to see us again. Exhaust leak in his car made him pass out and he drove into oncoming traffic. No seatbelt either. Gosh I remember him well. Thanks for sharing (and the memory rush of the good times) **Dotchi**
