Sure, I'm in. When I can. Don't have a lot of time, but I will do my best. I won't participate though, if it's going to be a 'Catholocism is the only true religion, and we are better than others'. That I don't believe. But, I would be more than willing to share what we are all about and try to dispell some misconceptions. |

I was raised Catholic all my life. Baptized, went to Catholic schools Catholic schools were I went, grammar and high school, races were divided. Whites sat on one side and minorities sat by themselves at lunch. Parents of my classmates refused their children to associate with blacks, Asians, and Hispanics. Is that what being Catholic is about? Tell me, what do you think about the Catholic Church supporting the Holocaust during WWII? I thought Catholics teaches about not judging others and the Ten Commandments said, "Thy shall not murder" but I am sorry, I lost faith in the Catholic Church when I discovered that they supported the execution of 6 million Jews. I turned my back on the Catholic Church when I used to come out of mass every Sunday to be ridiculed by my OWN CATHOLIC classmates because I wasn't white and they sat next to me in a Catholic school in uniforms after morning prayer. What is being Catholic when parents won't let their children associate with anyone who was non-white even though I was Catholic by religion. Most of them are hypocrites If I sound harsh is because I grew up Catholic all my life and witnessed the hypocrites in my Catholic Church and school who judged everyone and made racist remarks at you in class Where's the true teachings of Jesus? |

I am Roman Catholic...but have no faith in our church once so ever...Im from Canada and the number of sick priests that are now surfacing is disgusting....there are tons of cases of little alter boys being sexualy abused by the one person they are told to obey and almost worship..the priest.... even a small church in our community is in unrest right now..for the priest..{ he was my priest years ago..used to come to our house on occasion for tea}..has been arrested on many counts of child sexual molestation....and the church knows of many of these cases and just covered it up for years..moving their priests to knew parishes..{fresh children as far as Im concerned}...Id never step foot in another catholic church as long as I live... |

Floralove, I guarantee you this is not going to be the "we are better than others" crap. It will be more of enlightening others because people have a lot of misconceptions of the Catholic faith. The Catholic Church as the only church that Jesus founded (and others were founded by men) doesn't necessarily mean that all else are hoaxes. It should be seen in the light that there is something special in the Catholic faith. I would really appreciate your help Thank you for offering to do so |

To 17513, I feel so sorry for the discrimination you have suffered in the hands of our own brothers and sisters in Christ. If you would research the Philippine history under the Spanish regime, you would see that Filipinos were not allowed to go to school by the Spanish friars (the Spanish brought Christianity particularly Catholicism here in the Philippines). Filipinos are not allowed to be priests as well. Their had been a lot of cases where Spanish priest raped the Filipinas. We own the island but because we are under their religioius influence we were the ones discriminated and stepped upon. I understand what you have gone through. The problem is we tend to look at the people of the Church. This people, be them priests, are sinful just like us. God made me realize this in my life - God made me see to look at the Church - His body as a whole, the protection of the Holy Spirit that worked on it for 2000 years - the goodness of the Church and not the hypocrisy of the people. The problems that the Catholic Church have gone through made the Church more stronger that it was before - just like how our own sufferings and bad experience make us strong. If Filipinos cared for the hypocrisy of the Spanish friars and not the Church as a gift of God - all of us would have gone back to our pagan ways and there will be no Christian country in Asia. Philippines is the only Christian country in Asia - and more than 90% of our population are Catholics. Does Jesus teaches forgiveness? Forgive yourself for the discriminations you have gone through. Then start learning to forgive the church as well. Stop living in hatred. You don't have to go back to the Catholic faith if you don't want to, find the place where your heart can rest peacefully. We are here not to convert, but to clear up misconceptions of the Catholic faith and to share the love we have experienced in His Church. I will pray for your peace of mind |

KTSUE - i have already said that before - I will not step in any church again. I can pray to the bathroom and God would hear me, wouldn't He? I myself had my own grudge on a priest for closing down our parish to turn it into a school, when the new church has not yet been built. He had posh cars. Imagine, he allowed gambling beside the Church so that he can get money from their rent. Some time ago, in a news, a priest was caught having sex inside a car. Yes this things are way sick. I have distanced myself from the church for almost 6 years. BUT when I was able to establish my relationship with God, He made me see my need for a church. I went to other Christian churches but after a few short stops, God eventually led me back to the Catholic Church. He made me thirst for the Catholic faith. And as I've studied its history, I saw the promise He made "and the netherworld shall not prevail against it" - if not for the protection of the Holy Spirit, the Catholic Church would have collapsed earlier on considering that its members have been corrupt, unwise, prone to heresy and very sinful. The church is much stronger now that ever bcoz of the bad experiences it had on the past. The church have realized its mistakes. The new churches easily fall when they had the same bad experiences of the Catholic faith in the past. |

17513-You are so quick to point out the few flaws of the Catholic Church but you do not mention its strong points:Only the Catholic Church has produced holy Saints, only the Catholic Church has refused to bow down to modernizaton, only the Catholic Church has so many miracles to its credit, i.e,...incorruptible bodies of Saints, miraculous healings through relics, apparitions preaching love and truth...I will say it again...people do not like the Catholic Church because it does not allow "their paricular sin"...God is mercy, as well as justice in love, as is the Church...God bless
p.s.Of course prostitutes and homosexuals are sinners!...but we dont hate them, we try to help them as Christ did in your example... |

Thank you X, that does make me feel better. I also grew up in Catholic church, grade school and high school. Unlike Ktsue and 17513, my experience was very pleasant. The priests that we've had at our parrish, were wonderful, they treated us kids with much respect and love. I was very active in the youth group during my teen years, because it was a nice time with other kids my age who didn't hang out in gangs, or did bad things. I don't agree with all of what the church has done throughout the years. And yes during the middle ages there wer popes who were corrupt. But, remember, it is humans who run the church and they will make mistakes. I don't judge the church on what it used to be like, but on how it treats me now. The parrish I went to was made up of all races, with a very big hispanic showing. The church even had a latin mass set aside. So, it's just a matter of where you attend. Like everything else, there is good and bad in everything, and I happen to have the good. I don't believe in all the practices of the church and am even violating one of them now, but it is a place that I intend to raise my child in, because I know that like myself, they will help in raising my son to have good values and beliefs. |

Remember today is a Holy Day of Obligation. November 1,2000. As for the churches past crimes. I apologize. Nowadays things will not get like that in Rome anymore. The Pope discussed these things and issued a public apology. Forgive and love. |

I was raised in the Catholic church and have ceased to attend for a few reasons so this might help me in *my* struggles as being raised with this religion......I am not sure I could be of any help but if so I would be willing to do so....notice this religion seems to take quite a bit of *body slams* as I am sure many do....but have heard much on this subject...mantha~ray |
