She sat there and took a few bites of her soup and didn’t want anymore. She pushed the bowl off to the side. “I am done with the soup” she said to her mother. “I am going to go lay back down” Dante rose from the table and immediately fell back into the chair. Her legs seemed so weak. “Mom, I don’t think I am going to make it back to the room” she said.
Her mother walked over to her and helped her up. She held onto her and they walked towards the bedroom. Her mother could feel her shaking and saw how unsteady she was on her feet. She helped her into the bed and covered her up. “You forgot to take your medicine” her mother stated. “I will go get it for you”
She came back into the room with the medicine and sat down on the bed. She removed the lid and poured it onto the spoon. Dante leaned up in her weaken state and sipped it off the spoon. It seemed to take all her energy for her to sit up. She swallowed the medicine and lie back down.
She pulled the covers closer to her face and got comfortable. “Holler if you need me.” Her mother said as she walked out of the room. She turned the light off as she left. Dante fidgeted in the bed a bit and drifted off to sleep.
In the morning, her mother looked in on her. Dante was still sleeping. Her mother walked into the kitchen and put on a pot of coffee. She made Dante a cup of tea and some toast. She put it on a tray and carried it into her room. She set it on the nightstand and sat down on Dante’s bed to awaken her.
Her mother gently shook her. “Dante, I have some breakfast for you” She said. Dante did not respond. Her mother shook her a bit harder. “Dante are you ok?” she questioned. Once again Dante did not respond. Her mother felt her forehead and she was burning up. She quickly ran to the kitchen and called 911.
“I need an ambulance. My daughter is very sick and not responding to me” she told the dispatch. They verified her address and said “One will be sent out right away” It seemed to take them forever to get there. Her mother went into the bathroom and got a cool rag to place on Dante’s forehead while she waited for the ambulance to arrive.
She heard the siren in a distance and ran outside to make sure they knew where they were going. They pulled into her driveway. “My daughter is burning up and she is unresponsive” she told the paramedic as she led them into the house.
She took them into her room where she lie motionless. They took her blood pressure and temperature. “She has a 105 degree temperature, Ma’am” the paramedic stated. “We are going to start her on fluids and take her to the hospital. We are taking her to Springfield Medical, if you would like to follow
