My husband thinks I am crazy because I have dinner ready by 5pm. When he was growing up he ate at 8 or 9 pm. The neighbor hood children eat at 8pm. Mine goes back to when my dad was in the AirForce and he got off at 5pm so my mom would have dinner on the table by 5:05 pm and we ate at as a family. I always give my kids a snack before bed because they seem to always be starving before bed LOL.

Date: 3/27/2008 5:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 10657    Depending on what day of the week it is it is usually between 5-6pm. On weekends, a little later but, not after 7pm. And, on holidays or special occassions it seems like all day lol. The kiddos come home from school hungry so, they get a snack about four and then, dinner:D
Date: 3/27/2008 5:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 26303    When my kids were little, and bedtime was 7 7.30pm, we always ate between 5-5.30pm. Now we eat closer to 6pm. You shouldn't eat so late at night, it's not good for your body, or your sleep pattern. So I would say stick to your time, or stretch it out a little. But you are doing the right thing by your family. In my humble opinion anyway.
Date: 3/27/2008 5:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 51393    My mother used to do the same thing. We eat at 5 pm every night. We do our chores to clean dishes after eating and then we do our home work by 7 and then take our shower by 8 and sleep soon after.I say that should be the normal way to do it.Sadly sinced the kids are into games now adays as if it is their life now we tend to forget how important to have enough sleep.I'm guilty in that as well i still play Sims game from time to time lol.....I'm glad your a great mom we need to learn from you,hey you never know you might rub that on me lol :P....Much love and God Bless...
Date: 3/27/2008 5:56:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64567    Texas, yes my kids come home from school famished! But they get a light snack and then dinner then play time then homework then bed! LOL not so easy though its a fight but it works.
Date: 3/27/2008 5:57:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64567    Aussie girl, your oponion was great! We never eat late at night. Just a snack before bed and then that is it unitl the morning. Thanks for your replys guys!!
Date: 3/27/2008 5:59:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64567    Diana, my mother was very strict with schedules. I tend to be the same way. Routines Routines Routines!! That is me to a "T". I have a routine and if it gets messed up thats it! I call it a night! Its not always good but it works to keep order in the house with all boys LOL Thanks Diana! :-)
Date: 3/27/2008 6:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 10657    On girl scout nights and boy scout nights we do eat later unfortunately, we do our homework at scouts, eat a snack, and then come home at 6:30 on those nights they are just fast put together meals so, they can eat around 7pm my kiddos go to bed at nine. At school, at 7:15 am. My daughter eats at 10:30 am so, by the time she comes home at 4pm she is totally starving to death as she tells me fondly lol. My son eats later at noon at his age they don't get snacks anymore and he is fond of telling me the school doesn't feed him lol;)
Date: 3/27/2008 6:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 56359    I eat dinner before six o'clock. It helps with keeping your weight down. five o'clock is a perfect time for dinner in my opinion.
Date: 3/27/2008 6:10:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64567    Texas, See our school here they have breakfast on their desk at school waiting for them when they get to school. They also have a snack after lunch. They feed our kids alot at the school here. My youngest has lunch at 11am and middle son has lunch at 12pm. The next town over does not do that. I work with a lady whos granson eats lunch at 10am and nothing else until he gets home which I think is unfair. But every school district is different.
Date: 3/27/2008 6:11:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64567    Screen Writer, yeah that is what I have heard with the weight thing the earlier you eat the less likely you are to be overweight. I just cant see eating late with my family because I like my bed time lol early!
Date: 3/27/2008 6:13:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64567    Also Texas, They have free breakfast at our school. If the children do not want to eat thats fine but my kids eat 2 breakfasts. One at home and one at school. LOL they are pigs but at leat they are not hungry at school.
Date: 3/27/2008 6:23:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64567    Gotta get to bed guys! Ill check back in when I get to work in the morning! Have an Awesome night guys!!
Date: 3/27/2008 6:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 21903    8 or 9 is REALLY late!! When I was growing up, we usually at around 5; but now I prefer to eat at about 6:30...I'd eat my arm off if I waited until 9! Besides...that's my new bedtime I"m trying out...it could be bad to try to eat while trying to fall asleep! LoL
Date: 3/27/2008 7:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 63743    ^^^ LOL! @ ScreenWriter (For him food is prefect at anytime!) ROTFL! I like my dinner when I get out of work around 6.3 or so, but thats only when I am able to..
Date: 3/27/2008 7:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    When I lived up North, dinner was 6:00 p.m. Since I have lived in Florida, it is after dark. (Between 8-10:00 p.m.) Maybe because it is so hot & humid down here, we usually hold off dinner till later. Also during the really hot Summer Months. The "big" meal is at noon, and Dinner is a lighter meal.
Date: 3/27/2008 7:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 21867    My wife and I tend to eat somewhere between 6-6.30pm...as we both don't tend to be finished work at back home until 5.30ish. We'll eat early if we're home earlier. Generally neither of us have had anything since lunchtime as we're often too busy to take a break long enough to eat anything mid-afternoon. Wife and I tend to eat early as we also like to go for a walk along the beach out front of our house in the evening - so we give our dinner time to settle, have a bit of a relax and catch up then go for an evening stroll. It's generally not a good idea to eat too late in the evening, or even to eat larger heavier meals...as biologically your body is starting to wind down, it won't be processing the food as well as it could be when its late in the evening and thats generally a recipe for the body to take it and store it on your butt etc. Little and often is usually the best way...but also to keep lunch as you main meal, and dinner as something light - thats if healthy eating is the aim as opposed to get satisfying hunger.
Date: 3/27/2008 8:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 10773    It's probably better to eat an earlier dinner than to eat at 8 or 9. I eat dinner anytime between 6 and 9, though. I live alone so it's just whenever I'm hungry. :D
Date: 3/27/2008 8:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 61847    We eat whenever. With my fiancee and I always at work it usually depends. On our days off it also depends if we have the day off together. Lol a lot factors into our time for dinner. But today we ate before six, which was nice. But about 7:30 I was ready for bed!! Lol. *hugs*
Date: 3/27/2008 9:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 63961    When I was growing up, we usually had dinner ready by 6pm, and ate as a family (in the living room) and when we moved out to the country, it went from 6pm to around 8. Now that me and my wife have a totally different schedule, we usually have dinner together around 7-10pm, depends on the day. :D
Date: 3/27/2008 11:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 10657    It seems that most of us eat dinner earlier especially, those of us with those starving to death school age children. I think that is wonderful that your children have the chance to eat two breakfasts lol. And, I would rather have mine full, happy , and healthy than starving to death lol;)
Date: 3/28/2008 12:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 63011    I eat dinner just whenever. Sometimes it's around 7 or 8, other times I might not eat any dinner until midnight. When I have to close at work, it's usually about 11 or midnight.
Date: 3/28/2008 3:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    I normally feed the kids between 5 and 5:30 (a little later in the summer). I usually sit and have a snack with them. Hubby and I eat when he gets home... usually around 7 or 8.
Date: 3/28/2008 4:59:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64567    Wonderful replys guys! Its amazing how different we all are in our schedules but each finds there own and it works for them! :-)
Date: 3/28/2008 5:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 49546    If I'm working on shift, my "dinner" would be either around 2pm or after 1am. If I'm not working, I will eat dinner around 7pm-8pm ;)
Date: 3/28/2008 5:39:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64567    When I work nights I still eat dinner at 5 and then have a snack though out the night to keep me going.
Date: 3/28/2008 7:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 59418    When I'm at home, I eat around 5 or 6....But at uni It can be anywhere between 5 and 10pm :) I prefer eating early...It gives you time to digest before going to bed.
Date: 3/28/2008 8:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 62849    My mom always got home around 5 so we ate around 6-ish. My husband and I get hungry shortly after work/school so we try to eat around 6, sometimes 7, and if we're really hungry, we'll go out right after work and eat at 5PM. I don't think 5 is too early- when you're hungry, you're hungry!
Date: 3/28/2008 8:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 16845    We try to eat between 6 and 6:30. Mainly because my 3 year old goes to bed at 7pm.
Date: 3/28/2008 9:25:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64567    The earlier we eat the better sleep my kids get becky so its important they eat early to go to bed early! LOL
Date: 3/28/2008 9:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 57995    My husband gets off work at 4 so I usually start making dinner around that time and we eat around 5-5:30 depending on how soon I start.
Date: 3/28/2008 10:00:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64567    Saphire, I will try to make a quick dinner if we are running late or we will eat out so we can eat by 5-its imbedded in my brain to eat by 5 or I am not happy! LOL
Date: 3/28/2008 10:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 61933    Everyone is different. Growing up with my grandparents we ate around 7, when I was with my parents it was about 5:30. My ex and I would eat around 7-8, this guy I know gets home at 4:30 and eats his dinner by 4:45. So, lol, I guess the best answer is... whenever your hungry? rofl {{hugs}}
Date: 3/28/2008 11:05:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 64567    Frosty angel, yes its just when ever your hungry. LOL my husband would die if he ate at 4pm then he would have to eat again at 6pm ;-)
Date: 3/28/2008 11:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 28848    around 6 usually.
