“Isabella, please put the rifle down.” He said again.
“Robert!? Where is Paige?” Isabella demanded, holding the rifle steadily aimed at Robert.
“That’s what I’m trying to find out.” He said.
“Right…well, was she in the other room in the dark? Hmm?”
“Unfortunately no,” he said, stupidly answering her sarcastic question, “she may be gone already. Put the rifle down, please.”
Isabella gave his request only brief consideration, “I know she was here tonight. I don’t know why or how I know, but I know…I saw it. Are you trying to tell me she hasn’t been here?”
“No, but I AM trying to get you to put the rifle down.” Robert said smoothly. “I wouldn’t make jokes.” Isabella said without cracking a smile.
“This is getting ridiculous.” Robert said as he grabbed the end of the rifle.
Isabella reacted by jerking the rifle away from him before he had a strong grip on it. She angrily shoved it into his chest backing him into the wall. “I’m not ready to put the rifle down.” She said stubbornly as she took a few steps back away from Robert. “I am trying to figure out what happened here tonight.”
“Paige may be fine, you are over reacting.” He said. Isabella hoped so. Then her mind turned back to the dream she had earlier in the night. She saw Paige’s face, terrified as the man with dark hair held her against the wall by her throat.
‘Dark hair…’ Isabella thought. She glanced up at Robert’s head full of dark hair, then back at his face, where he had a smirk. “Izzy…” he began.
“It was you!” she shouted, suddenly a bit panicked.
Confused, Robert asked, “What was me?”
“It was you in my dream! You held her against the wall. You were choking her.” Isabella said accusingly, “where is she!? Did you kill her?”
Robert’s expression changed to one of fear, he suddenly realized he needed to talk Isabella out of her panic or she would shoot. “I don’t’ know what you’re dreams mean, but you need to put the rifle down so we can figure this out.” he said seriously.
“The dream was very real. I saw Abigail’s last moments, then I saw Paige in the same situation…and it was YOU I saw trying to kill her. Why her?!” Isabella demanded angrily.
“I swear it wasn’t me! You have to believe me. Look, tie me up or something, but do NOT pull the trigger…you are making a serious mistake.” He tried desperately to explain.
“Mistake? Me? I’d say you are the one who messed up this time. I should have seen it before…but I was blind. The night Abbi disappeared you conveniently had ‘other plans’ and couldn’t be with me…you killed Abbi and now you’ve killed Paige!” she cocked the rifle.
“No, Izzy! Stop!”
“The man in my dream was tall with dark brown hair; just…like…you.” she said, with an almost evil smile spreading across her face. She was ready to take her revenge.
“Please!” he begged.
Isabella hesitated only a moment, she had never shot a man before, but she felt that this was her only choice. Just as her finger began to press on the trigger, she heard someone stomp loudly up the stairs, “Izzy! Don’t!” came a deep voice from behind her.
