Too old to trick-or-treat?

So, I was just surfing the net and I saw something about an age limit on trick-or-treating... in some areas it's 12, others, it's 14, etc, and most places there is none. Do you think there should be an age limit? I mean, I'm 13 and will be 14 by this October, and I still have the "spirit of Halloween."

I just feel like a kid having fun with her siblings or friends.. it's my favorite holiday. It's more about the dressing up and going around the neighborhood more than actually getting candy. I don't mind if people give me less candy than they give the younger kids... although I don't think they should discriminate lol, if the teen is actually out there for fun.

I don't want to grow up.. lol. Each year it would become less and less acceptable for me to trick-or-treat... :(

What do you think? Would I be too old (in your opinion) to trick-or-treat at 14 if I really just wanted to for the fun of it? Should there be an age limit to trick-or-treat?  And last, would you give a kid my age candy if he/she was at your door?

Because some people (this hasn't happened to me yet) refuse to give candy to older kids... I don't think that makes sense; they don't know if we actually want to be there for the fun of it.

Date: 3/27/2008 8:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 3688    I'm of the belief if you're over the age of 15 (old enough to drive) you don't need to be out trick or treating. It's for the young ones, and we have refused to give candy to older kids. It's not fair to the young ones for older kids who could get it elsewhere to take that away from the young ones, IMO.
Date: 3/27/2008 8:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 3688    oops, did want to add, if an older kid is taking out the young ones, in that instance I think it's only fair for the older kid to get a bit of a treat, so those kids don't get turned away from our house.
Date: 3/27/2008 8:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 22433    in my family, the last year of elementary school (grade 7) was equally the last year of trick or treating. trick or treating is for the kids..teenagers and grown-ups have their own fun with parties & such :)
Date: 3/27/2008 8:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 61847    I don't mind it, but I stopped going because I live in Colorado and the candy (which I hardly ate) wasn't worth the cold I had to endure. But I think that by the time you are 16, its over and you should go find other hobbies. Haunted Houses are fun. But I don't mind dressing up, I still do it to this day!! *hugs*
Date: 3/27/2008 9:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 63961    IMO, It's stupid to have an age limit on Trick-Or-Treating--it's like putting an age limit on fun. But, since there is increased risks of kidnapping, and pranks gone wrong, and the world is definitely getting crazier and crazier, with sexual predators and pedophiles and all, I do think that a 35 y/o man trick-or-treating is kind of odd. But a teenager? nah. Halloween is a time to be with friends, neighbors, and families. It's not a sinister holiday at all. I think, eventually the "trick-or-treating temptation" will where off once you get older. I TOT'ed up until I was 16 and at 17 I was just going to block parties, hanging out with friends--or shacking up, watching a marathon of horror movies with Pizza, Popcorn and junk food! :D But now that I'm older, I just let the kids at it, I enjoy sitting on my porch, having a brewski (or a pop, lol) and hanging out with my friends and neighbors and giving out candy.
Date: 3/27/2008 9:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 41744    lol i went TOT in 2006, i was 26, wanted to go last year but my friend i go with had to work, might go this year.
Date: 3/27/2008 9:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 62100    I think I was 13 the last year that my parents allowed me to go..
Date: 3/27/2008 10:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 13119    I think it is ridiculous to limit kids, there is so few things that they can do that if it brings them joy for another year so be it. When I get the older kids they have to sing a song out on the front lawn, they laugh and have a fun time being goofy and then I give them their candy. I figure if you go to the trouble of getting a costume and going out then I will reward you. So keep going.
Date: 3/27/2008 11:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 10657    I think some cities place the age limit to give the younger ones a chance lol. I know in my area you can often find the older ones going to the halloween parties at schools, churches, and etc.
Date: 3/28/2008 1:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 35720    I'm 21 and I'd still consider trick-or-treating.
Date: 3/28/2008 1:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 35720    By the way, the last time I went trick-or-treating was with my best friend when we were 19 and no one refused us anything.
Date: 3/28/2008 3:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 59876    we give candy to everyone that comes to the door figuring 1. it's all in the spirit of things 2. you are only as old as you feel :P and 3. if they are at our door, they aren't down the street knocking over the 7-11. lol!
Date: 3/28/2008 5:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 63241    I've given treats to trick-or-treaters in their 20's and older. If a person goes to the trouble to dress up, they deserve a treat...it shows they're young at heart. Enjoy!!
Date: 3/28/2008 5:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    When my daughter was 13 she stopped going trick or treating, but she still dressed up and passed out the candy. I think 13 is a good age to stop. I find the older kids who come around here trick or treating are always on the rude side.
Date: 3/28/2008 8:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 29532    well thank god I'll have a less than one month old to take out with my 5 year old this year. That means I at 28 am GUARANTEED 15 or more YEARS of trick or treating! YAY!!!!!!!!!!
Date: 3/28/2008 9:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 57995    The last time I went Trick or Treating was at about 13 or 14. After that I felt like I was too old. I wouldn't refuse to give a teen candy.
Date: 3/28/2008 10:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 61847    I'd never refuse a kid candy, I figure if you bother why not. I will give the older kids less than the younger kids, but being in college I don't see many 20 year olds wanddering around my apartment complex trick or treating. Many of them go to party's and such. Come to think of it, we didn't see a single trick or treater the last two years. :( *hugs*
Date: 3/28/2008 12:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 62841    i'm 18 and I still trick or treat, and the people in my area where I trick or treat think its cool. But it also might be because im taking kids from my neighborhood so that their parents can relax too
Date: 3/28/2008 1:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 64498    It really depends because some kids go out to beat up the younger kids and destroy property and there are those who want to go and have good clean fun! Its a shame that there even has to be an age limit but kids these days dont know how to respect property and other humans and it is only getting worse. In a perfect world if children could realize that you dont need to cause trouble to have fun we would not need an age limit but unfortuanantly this is not a perfect world
