I am not buying the "official" line of maintenance on the planes. I truly believe they were either: 1) Looking for someone (or someones) OR 2) There was a specific Terror Threat. I'll tell you why (and maybe it's just post 9/11-jitters). The Airlines are already being hit very hard financially because of the rising cost of Jet Fuel. A plane that is grounded is a financial loss. The cost of having the planes examined, paying employees and crew, the cost of putting passengers on other flights, the cost of hotels/meals/lodging for passengers. (The hit to the Reputation(s) of Delta & American Airlines....). Yeah, really, I'm not buying it. How it changed my life: It just doesn't strike me as a "true" story. It rings "false" with me.
