Would you want to be cloned? What if you were cloned without your awareness?

I have thought about this subject and know that it flies in the face of all religous and naturalistic thought yet the possible advantages would be tempting. Not talking about creating slave versions of yourself and know there would have to be a standard to allow this to even happen. It would be like raising your child except it would be a way of guiding the best things of youself to grow instead of the missed opportunities in life that stigmatizes us.

I know folks see the abuse that could happen and the possible designer babies ethical dilemma.Yet think about secret testing that some insanely wealthy person in the world is doing right now.The japenese anime series "Ghost in a Shell" has put a futuristic possiblity in cybernetics.,which because of this War we are in has given robotics a platform to grow.Aismo the Honda robot is already conducting symphonies,So these advances will have to be addressed soon or we will allow a situation of underground technologies to bring about horrors.

I am just curious as to USMers thoughts on this subject.

Date: 5/15/2008 1:06:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876    Well I am a Gemini.Having a twin seems intriguing
Date: 5/15/2008 1:20:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876    Understand that this is not even possible now, even embryonic stem cell research shows that the body rejects these cells. Now, Adult stem cell research is showing better results.Another aspect of cloning is that animal clones lifecycle is very short. The only possible benefits of human cloning at the moment have to do with organ creation.
Date: 5/15/2008 1:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876    Here is a lonk to info on the Basics of Human Cloning: http://www.arhp.org/patienteducation/onlinebrochures/cloning/index.cfm?ID=282
Date: 5/15/2008 1:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 21903    It is VERY complicated! LoL
Date: 5/15/2008 1:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 30747    Yep I would. Then I would send my clone to work and I would sit home eating cheetos all day. Wait....then my clone would look better than me and get all the dates. I have to rethink this.
Date: 5/15/2008 1:51:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876    I'm telling you there is a upside!
Date: 5/15/2008 1:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 56293    Nope, I would not want to be cloned.
Date: 5/15/2008 2:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 63011    No, thanx. I'll pass on being cloned.
Date: 5/15/2008 2:09:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876    Well so far the consensus is A NO.hmmm
Date: 5/15/2008 2:11:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876    I find it interesting that everyone acts like this is some abstract concept. It could definitely be a possiblity in the near future, say 20 years.
Date: 5/15/2008 2:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    I don't think I'd want to be cloned as I like being unique.
Date: 5/15/2008 2:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 14909    If I were cloned my clone would be my slave. Muhahahahah!!! But no I don't think being cloned would be good.
Date: 5/15/2008 2:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876    I am starting to get frustrated with no one taking this seriously.
Date: 5/15/2008 2:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 64365    As long as my clone didn't get me in trouble or try to pass as me with my husband I would be okay with it.
Date: 5/15/2008 2:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 16376    No, I would never want to be cloned. One of me is probably plenty enough, LOL.
Date: 5/15/2008 2:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 64365    I think it's more of a reality than you think. I worked at a research hospital for many years and learned many things.
Date: 5/15/2008 2:30:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876    Thanks,Nani.
Date: 5/15/2008 3:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 4144    i don't think even i could stand another me!
Date: 5/15/2008 4:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 48250    LOL @ SoulDrifter...interesting post, but I'd have to say, because of Christian beliefs; we beest leave these things alone, we could get into more problems then even we realize....T/C
Date: 5/15/2008 5:04:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876    Yes, it would be nice to not deal with it.That is not going to happen. The buildup to the Atomic bomb led to a World Warand kept us in fear.Science does not give up.There is too much money and too much desire from human beings to discover new terrority. This is something that is going to be.How we deal with it requires dedication and awareness.
Date: 5/15/2008 5:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 15157    Omgosh two Keeks? Would da werld be ready for dat? .=O_O=.
Date: 5/15/2008 6:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 54444    I can't see any harm in it and could care less one way or another if I got cloned. The clone would not be another you, it would be a totally different human that looked like you and had some of your traits. It would also adopt traits unique to itself. And despite all,the hype a clone would be no less human than any of us. No different in fact than having a twin.
Date: 5/15/2008 6:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 36766    I don't think it would be wise to have another me running around.
Date: 5/15/2008 8:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 63871    The thought of hanging out with myself all the time is tempting, but I think I'd like to leave my house once in a while and go make other friends. I'm completely in support of a mass cloning of Swedish super models though, that's really an issue the public should be pushing for more of.
Date: 5/16/2008 12:03:00 AM  From Authorid: 63366    I wouldn’t mine cloning to a point, in recreating parts or a whole body (less the brain) to facilitate a full & healthy life, for someone or myself if they have a debilitating illness. To clone a human just to create more humans I don’t think this would be a good idea. Due to the crowding that we are already experiencing on this planet, now multiply that by two.
Date: 5/16/2008 1:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 51393    I would not mind having a clone,so i can play, while my other me do all the work lol.I would love to see my clone succeed in all endeavor.I'm a dreamer, and this would be something great to think about. The only problem would be,mine is mine(hubby and kids),and cannot share that to my clone lol.She might do it to well hubby will be able to tell the difference or will he?lol.....I'll say your actual clone a possibility of creation, but there is always a missing link,it will never be the same no matter what. The,thinking, and actual wants will never be alike. You can try to create a perfect clone, but i don't see a possibility to create a perfect you. It's a nice thought, but i don't see our society allowing such things, besides i would want a better me a much better mind set without the worries of having any bo-polar episodes.I would say,i would rather God allow my life to fulfill what i can now,and move on to the next life, when my time comes.I do believed in re-incarnate,life is full of wonders,we came into this world somehow, and there is always a way to comeback as a better person.Great post!....Much love and God Bless....
Date: 5/16/2008 1:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 51393    bi-polar*
Date: 5/16/2008 4:40:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876    Well, maybe our culture will not allow this, and population is a issue. It is probably only feasible to the insanely rich or as organ banks. Thanks for the opinions everyone.
Date: 5/16/2008 8:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 24003    I dont think the world could handle another me!
Date: 5/21/2008 2:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 35430    assuming i was cloned, i don't think i'd mind it too much, as long as this clone was with a fun, sociable family and had lots of friends and was happy. i wouldn't a clone to be emo like me.
Date: 6/13/2008 3:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 32806    A clone would not be the same as the original in many ways. Yes the dna would be the same but there are many factors that make us who we are and these factors can not be cloned. As a simple example, my clone would not be born in the same year as I was, so would have a different experience of world events to mine. There are many objections I could list to cloning, but on reflection I quite like the idea, if possible, of cloning me and imprinting my previous self on the clone when I die, I COULD LIVE FOREVER!!!! :)
Date: 6/14/2008 6:32:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51876    You got it Sagi 10! that really is my point when I start these discussions or whatever to get people to understand the potential and temptations for some insanely rich people who live in this world to use technology to new levels never seen.
Date: 6/14/2008 8:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 15070    Wow...I am not sure the World could handle a clone of me. But then again, a clone of myself & several USM'ers...we could take over the World. Something to consider....
