Why cats are evil...Base

I was minding my own business on the 4th getting ready to cut up some watermelon when I hear a distinct sound. A cat coughing up a hairball. I look at said cat and it's hacking up said furball on the rug. Now, almost my whole house is hard wood floors or ceramic tile, but said cat felt the need to try hacking up the hairball on an expensive rug.

I decided to save the rug and get the cat to move onto the wood floors to carry on with the hairball extraction.

Knife in hand I walk towards the cat and the rug. The next few minutes are a blur. I'm pretty sure the rug attacked my foot propelling me forward where the knife in hand decided to slice across my upper thigh right through my shorts. At this point said cat is nowhere around, not that I blame him, a crazy man with a knife fighting a rug, I'd probably run too.

After two hours of trying to get the bleeding to stop I decided maybe a trip to Urgent care was needed. I got taken back to the triage right away. The nurse of course asked what happened, without any dignity left I explained it to her. She took me back to a room where they do stitches and whatever else instead of a regular room telling me that I would indeed need stitches. She goes on to "prepare" the area for the Dr. which included shaving and cleaning out the cut.

So, there I sit, with a partially shaved upper thigh, no dignity and the Dr. comes in only to let me know he can't stitch it. That it would need to be done by a plastic surgeon. That the depth and the way it was cut, some of it would need to be recut and stitches on the inside and then stitches on the outside. He gave me instructions on how to treat it and if in three to six months I didn't like the scar I could go to a plastic surgeon and have a scar revision. The nurse came back in and packed the wound and I kindly thanked her for unnecessarily shaving my leg.

Both the Dr. and the nurse asked if the watermelon was any good.....

Said cat has still not been forgiven for deciding to use the rug. The cat gets a 0/5.

The knife was a Zellinger A.J. Henckels which I give a 5/5. They can be found at Macys or Nordstroms.

Date: 7/6/2008 12:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 36766    I'm sorry that you did that to yourself, but I can't help but laugh. All that fuss over a hairball. Next time, ya gonna leave him hack in peace? lol.
Date: 7/6/2008 1:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 22275    omg, dude, that sucks. How long is the healing process going to be?
Date: 7/6/2008 1:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 13297    So instead of a hairball you got blood on the rug? What an awful way to spend your holiday. :(
Date: 7/6/2008 1:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 48809    I am sorry that this has happened to you Base...it is not only painful but expensive too. Cats have a lot of habits that I disagree with....it is things like this why I don't own one! I hope you will get well soon!
Date: 7/6/2008 1:06:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    mmm yeah pretty much majic, I don't know Pika, it's going to be rechecked tomorrow, they didn't give a time frame other than the 3-6 months to see the plastic surgeon if I wanted a scar revision, which it's a scar, who cares
Date: 7/6/2008 1:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 36766    Yeah, it's just a scar. It's not like you're going to run around in a speedo or anything, so nobody would really see it.
Date: 7/6/2008 1:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 3263    LMAO!!!!!!! Dude I love the reviews at the end. By the way, it wasn't the rug that attacked you, it was a gnome. Or so I've heard...
Date: 7/6/2008 1:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 3263    Actually, Angel Marie, he DOES run around in a speedo! Or so I've been told...
Date: 7/6/2008 1:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 63241    I'm sorry this happened. I hope you can get the care that you need for this cut. You have to be careful of infection. As for the cat...this reminds me of a comedian who said "The best alarm clock in the world is the sound of a pet vomiting"!
Date: 7/6/2008 1:17:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    I'd believe it was a gnome, they're known for being a little cruel. lol I had to give the review, I mean come on, that's a good knife.
Date: 7/6/2008 1:18:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    no, no speedos
Date: 7/6/2008 1:18:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    and that comedian was right
Date: 7/6/2008 1:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 3263    No speedo? What about that picture you showed me the other day...
Date: 7/6/2008 1:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    Base-I am laughing myself to cramps here!!! The lesson here? Let Kitty select their own spot to share a hairball. The cost of a carpet cleaning is less than an trip to the ER & a plastic surgery. Your Cat knew this, and don't fool yourself it didn't ;)
Date: 7/6/2008 1:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    In addition, I am sure the Kitty nibbled on the Watermelon while you were gone.
Date: 7/6/2008 1:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 13546    Oh my goodness Base! No really, was the watermelon good? :p . Ouch! Cats always seem to know the right time to either get underfoot or hack up a hairball.. hehe. Hope you heal up good! See maybe you should save both of your legs to match that patch?
Date: 7/6/2008 1:31:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    Chicken, you promised never to tell...
Date: 7/6/2008 1:31:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    lol SC it wouldn't surprise me
Date: 7/6/2008 1:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 3263    I didn't tell, I asked!
Date: 7/6/2008 1:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 56293    Haha, only you!
Date: 7/6/2008 1:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 10245    scar tissue is no fun, and can be very painful... you might want to talk to that plastic surgeon sooner rather than later. why didn't the ER call one in?
Date: 7/6/2008 1:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 15677    poor base...dont you know cats rule.....lol.
Date: 7/6/2008 1:52:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    I didn't go to the ER, I went to Urgent Care. The Dr. said that the hospital next door would tell me the same thing.
Date: 7/6/2008 1:53:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    and really it's not that bad of a cut, as long as it doesn't get infected letting it do an open healing should be fine
Date: 7/6/2008 1:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 10245    okay...just keep it clean! I'm dealing with a chunk of scar tissue from a teeny-tiny piece of glass stuck between my toes and it HURTS! (our urgent care is IN the ER, so I get confused about what the difference really is... :P)
Date: 7/6/2008 2:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 10245    I make some awesome herbal ointment (I call it boo-boo goo) that helps heal stuff super fast... let me know if you'd like me to send you some.
Date: 7/6/2008 2:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 63725    I am so sorry this happened. Did they tell you to clean it daily with saline solution and pack with gauze dressing? That is what I have had to do with my open incision as a result of failed stapling.
Date: 7/6/2008 2:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 57232    Should you be worried that afterwards the cat hi fived another one of your pets? I'd be concerned about that. I have a lovely scar on my right leg from Frankenstein
Date: 7/6/2008 2:04:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    I'm not supposed to put anything like creams or ointments on it. I have to pack it with gauze soaked in saline solution, then put dry gauze over it, then wrap it with the white whatever it's called, then ace bandage. Then 8 hours later when it's dry, pull out the dry gauze (which is quite pleasant) because it's supposed to pull out the dead tissue, skin, germs etc. and repeat. But thanks.
Date: 7/6/2008 2:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 10245    you wouldn't want to use it until after you're done packing, though.
Date: 7/6/2008 2:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 10245    yeah... I just realized you had to pack it.
Date: 7/6/2008 2:06:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    Yes they did Peacelover. He better not have high fived anyone BMonkey lol
Date: 7/6/2008 2:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    Base :) Man, that bites. ): There is a time and a place for close-in knife work. Sometimes, we have to handle business from a safe distance away. Next time, just shoot the cat. ;) Write on......
Date: 7/6/2008 2:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 64514    Poor cat, lol you prob scared the cat to death. Sorry to hear about your leg. Hope you'll be ok
Date: 7/6/2008 2:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 24003    Awwww Base:( Im so sorry that happened to you. I hope you heal up nicely.
Date: 7/6/2008 2:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 63201    *trying to contain the giggles* so blood was better on the carpet than cat yack? And yeah it's a scar, I don't think I'd waste money on a plastic surgeon, think of the mileage you'll get for years to come out of that story! My cat has woken me from a sound dead sleep yacking near my head, to find himself go flying across the room to finish his business. /shudder...evil critters...
Date: 7/6/2008 3:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 15157    Aw I'm glad you made it through forgive me for a chuckle or two while reading your very well told story of deff.
Date: 7/6/2008 3:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 4887    Owie!
Date: 7/6/2008 3:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 14314    Ouch!!!! I hope it heals very fast *hugs* God Bless
Date: 7/6/2008 3:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 35178    Oh base I'm so sorry. Next time let the kitty hack on the carpet. My cat always manages to find a rug also when she feels a hairball coming on. I do have a fool proof way of getting the cat hack out of the rug though. With a paper towel pick up the clumps of hair (but don't rub). I use woolite oxy deep (in the blue bottle) and spray it on the stain. I place a doubled over paper towel on the stain and leave it. Don't scrub, dont rub, don't do anything but place it ontop. Then I place the woolite bottle on top of the paper towel and leave it until the next day. When I pick up the paper towel the stain is "magically" gone. This is the best method I have found. I don't know why it works or how. All I know is if I rub the stain its in there for good. As you can imagine I discovered this my forgetting to come back to the stain and discovering the next day that it had just vanished. So...next time use the technique and let the cat hack anywhere it likes.
Date: 7/6/2008 4:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 7341    LOL!!!!!
Date: 7/6/2008 4:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 31531    Sorry this happen to you.But the way you said it kind of made be chuckle. But I am truly am sorry.Take care >> HUGS >>
Date: 7/6/2008 4:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 42945    I know I shouldn't be laughing Base but gee it read funny LOL!!!so is said cat still in residence with you?? LOL!!!
Date: 7/6/2008 5:00:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    I'll try to remember that for next time Short Angel since I won't be trying to stop anymore hairballs from happening.
Date: 7/6/2008 5:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 21903    OMG!! That is so terrible about cutting yourself! I'm so clumsy, this is something I'd do... :( Sad times. So did you even GET any watermelon? So sorry this happened. *blows a kissie*
Date: 7/6/2008 5:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 21903    Btw--I never liked cats...but if I were you, I would hate rugs now too! ;)
Date: 7/6/2008 5:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 26303    LOL, sorry, I'm laughing again. But it would've been funny to watch, sorry.
Date: 7/6/2008 5:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 26303    LOL @ Kronk!
Date: 7/6/2008 5:18:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    Yes, Zema, said cat is still in the residence.
Date: 7/6/2008 5:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 63572    Base, you need to train your kitties better! Mine sleep on the bed with me and when they wake up having a furball they know to jump directly off the bed or else they'll be shoved off and to find the newspaper I leave at the foot of my bed, which is where they deposit their hairballs.
Date: 7/6/2008 5:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 63572    I don't know how I got them trained so well with the hairballs, but it works!
Date: 7/6/2008 5:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 51876    Ucks to be you! LOL
Date: 7/6/2008 6:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 53909    LOL!! Sorry, couldn't help but laugh. Just how you explained it all. Just be lucky that it wasn't anything worse. Sorry that happened.
Date: 7/6/2008 7:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301    ...the cat is sitting on the back of your chair, staring down on you with a smug look on it's face.
Date: 7/6/2008 8:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 21764    oh my goodness.. that is so horrible/funny.. I hope everything will be ok! *hugs*
Date: 7/6/2008 8:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 27403    OMG. I am sorry to laugh, but that is hilarious. Darn cat! Darn rug! Love and Light
Date: 7/6/2008 9:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 24003    lol@Hekler
Date: 7/6/2008 9:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 7830    when it rains it pours huh

Date: 7/7/2008 12:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 29532    LMAO sorry Nathan, but the way you tell stories is just so darn funny sometimes.
Date: 7/7/2008 12:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 25481    OMG. I am so sorry you cut yourself but the way you worded this had me rolling. "said cat....said hairball"
Date: 7/7/2008 1:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 22275    You know, speaking of cats, I had to come back in regards to the cat nibbling on the watermelon. The last cat I had i was like 7. My mom and I were talking about it earlier and she said that the cat would go eat enchiladas that my mom would make clear off the stove while she waited for them to cool off, and one other time it snuck in the fridge while she was cooking and was hanging out in there eating a whole bowl of home made chilli beans. those cats... sneaky sneaky creatures.
Date: 7/7/2008 1:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 35720    I know, I hate cats.. >:( Lol, sorry all that happened to you.
Date: 7/7/2008 3:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 10657    Hm, I think I'll pass on that knife love;) Hope you heal nicely though!
Date: 7/7/2008 4:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    Lordy Base, only you! LOL
Date: 7/7/2008 4:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    The LEAST you could have done was added a pic of your leg so we could see how bad it really is. Lordy base, you don't go after cats with a really good knife in your hand, LOL. Come on, give up a picture. Maybe you were better off laying on your couch with a lap top all day?
Date: 7/7/2008 5:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 62881    I have been wanting a good sharp knife...Thanks for the tip, Base! LMAO!
Date: 7/7/2008 6:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 64365    Oh My! Bad Kitty... I hope you heal speedily, Base. HUGS
Date: 7/7/2008 7:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 12103    omg that's awful! Hope your leg is healing up

Date: 7/9/2008 11:11:00 PM  ( ChatminAng )   LOL, did ya happen to take a picture for us?! :)
Date: 7/11/2008 6:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 64621    If you dont want hairballs on expensive floors, why have a cat??? Karrie
Date: 7/19/2008 5:39:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36704    You assume I brought the cat into the house. I did not.
