I just found out I have a brother... How can I find him? (UPDATE AGAIN) -Ash of Pompeii

**UPDATE 2** My brother's birth mother was named Wanda Gibson, maiden name Martin. **

**UPDATE** Okay, upon talking to my dad I found out that the boy was born in about 1973. The mom DIDN'T want him and put him up for adoption at a Lutheran agency in Detroit. I have her name now, and I know she named the baby Patrick (could obviously have changed by his adoptive parents) but it looks like I still have some work to do to find out who my brother is! ******

Talking to my grandma, I found out that my dad has a son that's a few years older than I am. Now, my dad was very adamant about my sister (mom's kid, not his) finding out about her other half-siblings, saying she had a right to know and everything. Yet, I didn't even know I had this brother until today.

I'd talk to my dad about it but he's extremely moody and flies off the handle at the strangest things, so I want to get some more information before I talk to him about it.

All I know about my brother is that he's a male, is about 25-35 years old, was born in Wayne or Oakland County in Michigan, and that my dad and his mom split up and she wanted to raise him on her own. So basically all I have to go on is that and my dad's name... which I'm just hoping is on his birth certificate but I heard a rumor that the father's name is not always necessary on that, at least back then.

I have ALWAYS wanted a big brother, so I really want to find him. I'm a bit worried about what it might do to him if he doesn't know... but I'd try to talk to his mom first. I'm aware she might tell me to go away, and that might be upsetting but we're both adults so I think we both have a right to know about each other and maybe know each other. Aside from that, my own mother went and met her after she found out, but my mom passed away since then so I don't know.

So, where should I start?

Date: 7/8/2008 4:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 64498    wow ash start with your mom if she isnt receptive them take the information and go to the town hall in one of those counties in michigan as they are public record see if you can get some info on the school he attended etc... If that doesnt work there are agencies on line you can deal with they charge like 60 bucks but it might be worth a try if I can find those sites I will pm you and let you know the names
Date: 7/8/2008 4:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 26303    Good luck with your search. Your dad may be initially upset with your grandma for telling you. But, he will come around I'm sure. He was probably adamant about your sister, cos he would be hoping his son's step father wouldn't stand in the way of his son finding him. You may not have been at an age that he thought he could tell you about his son. He will have his reasons, respect them. Gee I hope you are reunited with your brother. Take care,
Date: 7/8/2008 4:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 21839    I would try & get more info from your grandma, his mom may be remarried now so she may be hard to find.... try checking myspace, classmates, or just googling the name on the internet. Hopefully its not a realy common name & then try checking his name with the state & county. You never know what you will find but get as much info from your grandma to try & help you through the internet channels... I can try & help you if you need it... good luck & I hope it turns out good for you... keep me updated!
