Why No Surge For Afghanistan~Psyguy

It will be left to the next president to send a significant number of additional troops to Afghanistan, the Pentagon's spokesman said Wednesday.

U.S. commanders are asking the Pentagon for up to 10,000 more troops for Afghanistan.

The request was a subject of discussion when President Bush met with Defense Secretary Robert Gates and the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon on Wednesday.

But getting more troops to the increasingly violent battle zone is unlikely to happen before Bush leaves office in January, Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said.

"This government is going to work to provide additional forces for Afghanistan next year. How many, whether it's the three additional brigades that the commanders want, I think is a question, frankly, for the next administration," Morrell said at a news conference.

There won't be enough troops to send to Afghanistan any time soon because of commitments in Iraq, which is the priority for the Pentagon.

"The chairman of the Joint Chiefs has said time and time again Iraq is a mission we must do. Afghanistan is a mission we do as we can," Morrell said.

Ok who attacked us on 9-11-01?

I believe the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden's Al-Qaeda....

The Afghan war was a war I think the Majority of the United States Citizens Approved of...

The Taliban and Al-qaeda are regrouping, and staging major attacks in Afghanistan...

But of course the Pentagon see's Iraq as "Top Priority"....

No wonder why we'll win the war on terror

Spring is coming

Date: 7/24/2008 7:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 15228    I'm not a general or a great military strategist, but Iraq and Afghanistan are two different wars, two different countries, so I don't think you can use the same technique in both places. During wwII we did not fight the same in Europe as in the Pacific.
Date: 7/24/2008 7:53:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63026    But why is Iraq considered the "winning point of the war in terror?" Afghanistan is where Al-Qaeda was. Not in Iraq til we Invaded in 2003. So while being diverted in Iraq, the Taliban and Al-Qaeda regrouped, and now is taking back over the country. Why? It makes no sense. Theres a report showing The fighters in Iraq are now going back to Afghanistan to fight...We should of have Afghanistan won by now. But now it's going back to pre 9-11...
Date: 7/24/2008 8:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 15228    because terrorists including AlQaeda, flocked from all over the middle east to iraq. I'm not so sure they are all going back to afghanistan. It always heats up there during the summer because in the winter it's to dang cold to do any thing. That's why you always hear about the "spring offensive".
Date: 7/24/2008 8:10:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 63026    The Pentagon, and the top Brass should of kept Afghanistan the main focal point of terrorism. Not Iraq. I still don't get why we lost our focus from Bin Laden to Saddam...Osama is the only guy in the history of the 20th century to succesfully attack the United States Twice.
Date: 7/24/2008 8:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 63219    PsyGuy, al-Qaeda in Iraq has existed since 1994, when Abu Musab al-Zarqawi came around to lead it 'til his slaying in June 2006. Plus, Iraqi Ambassadors, military officials are seeing that the terrorists who came to Iraq are now retreating back to Afghanistan, 'cause in all reality, our Great American Armed Forces put the most effort in that country by far, and all this is finally proving that we're winning in Iraq and I don't doubt we will anytime soon. I mean, let's be realistic, the terrorists could always come back to Iraq, but if after a few months it is official that the Iraqi Army can take care of itself completely without outside help, what's the use of the terrorists' return anyway. Al-Qaeda's losses have been and still very much are in the making, Psy. Even some troops going to/in Iraq now are feeling bumbed because 'they won't see and feel as much action there as they would in Afghanistan' nowadays.
Date: 7/24/2008 8:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 63219    The place where many, most of America wants us least is the place where we're proving the most success and strength in. Yeah, we've lost lots of honorable men and women, but war isn't meant to be pretty, is it? I don't like it anymore than the next pacifist, rest assured, but sometimes it's the only surefire way to prove safety and security.
Date: 7/24/2008 8:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 63219    Terrorists leave, retreat from Iraq for Afghanistan=The U.S. and it's allies victory to Iraq in the War On Terror.
Date: 7/24/2008 8:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 63219    Iraq's al-Qaeda was a considerable but short-lived sidekick for the entire terrorist organization as a whole. Even whatever terrorists still in Iraq packing back to Afghanistan want the leadership to know that they want Afghanistan/Pakistan (al-Qaeda's center of gravity) to be the central and above all front in the War On Terror. All the strength they have and muster will come from within those areas and those areas only, before too long. President Bush will be well remembered for this not too long down the road. I already praise him for it.
Date: 7/25/2008 9:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 62506    The sooner America elects a new leader the better off we'll be.
Date: 7/25/2008 3:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 51876    Ultimate hero makes some good points that probably factor into the situation.Obama has already stated that we need to move our troops out of Iraq and into Afganistan. So we will. Here in my area of the world, I know a lot of Pakistani's that are buying convience stores in the "hood" my contacts tell me there has been a influx of pakistanis into America through Mexico because they look like Latino's. Somrthing is simmering in that end of the world for sure.
