Creepy Storms Earlier Today

I am in the Tampa Bay area. And our atmosphere is pretty unstable right now. Between Gustav, and the other storm (not to mention the two other disturbances off of Africa).

Now, the last storm (Fay) was barely a rain event for us. In fact the winds & rain hit all around us. but missed us. Honestly it circled around my State, and missed us completely.

But last night, at dusk, I went to walk the dog, and the sky was lime green. All you Guys who live up North know that means "Uh,Oh".

And this afternoon, what a freaky, powerful Thunderstorm! Steaks of lighting where coming down three, four areas at a time. The thunder literally shook our houses. Now, Florida is a "lightning capitol", but this was like God's strobe light was set on "seizure-mode".

I got caught in the storm with my friend (we were supposed to go marketing), and she pointed out to me before the rain hit "Look, the trees are not moving, that is a BAD sign".

And she was not kidding! It was so powerful,.... honestly? It was like some Biblical (or Pagan) wrath of the God(s) kind of thing.

I love thunderstorms. But this one was extreme.

I have never witnessed so many bolts of lightning at once.

Date: 8/29/2008 10:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 25481    Wow. Sounds crazy. I'm really terrified of bad weather. Especially since I am at college right now and away from home.
Date: 8/29/2008 10:24:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    Hi Zema-it is calm now. But it was scary. As many bolts of lightning as we saw, I was sure my house (or a nearby house) would be hit. That storm was on top of us.
Date: 8/29/2008 10:28:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    Jess-I have lived here a long time & never saw a storm like this (lightning-wise). I have been through four hurricanes (Fay doesn't count), and I was more nervous today. There was no wind. And when the rain came down? We flooded within minutes. The water has gone down now, but Wow!
Date: 8/29/2008 10:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 36901    I think it's weird all over. I'm in Texas and this afternoon we had thunder and lightening. No rain though. It was so loud that are windows were shaking. Our dogs were really upset and storms and loud noises usually don't bother them.
Date: 8/29/2008 10:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 63572    I thought because of Gustav they were advising people in Florida to evacuate? Something on the weather channel about how this could be equal to hurricane Katrina
Date: 8/29/2008 11:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 28190    That sounds so creepy. Almost like the scene in War of the Worlds (with Tom Cruise) where the storm came in extremely fast with lightning and all... I love Regular thunderstorms.. I am terrified of Tornadic weather- and that's exactly what that sounds like to me. Glad you all weren't hit with anything worse than rain, and I hope ya'll stay safe. *hugs*
Date: 8/30/2008 1:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 63040    idk but here in tx green sky=tornado lol glad your ok

Date: 8/30/2008 5:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 63047    Woah! Sounds cool... but that isn't something I'd want to experience lol. I remember this time a few years ago when the sky was sorta greyish-greenish and there was a terrible storm outside.... I think a tornado hit several miles away, luckily it didn't hit us
Date: 8/30/2008 7:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    I was sitting out on the porch last night and noticed there was some lightning... weirdest lightning I've ever experienced. It seemed to be far away, I didn't se any actual bolts, just flashes in the distance, but it felt like I was INSIDE it... my fingers and toes tingled afterward that one flash, and the tingles predicted the next few flashes. I expected to walk in the house blowing out light bulbs... none blew though... whew.
Date: 8/30/2008 8:17:00 AM  From Authorid: 21435    It's a wild time of year, here too. We're bracing for Gustav and who knows what Hanna will do. Take care of you, Spirit Child.
Date: 8/30/2008 7:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 47930    we were out and about to we saw the same thing. it gave me a real erieeee feeling also. you be safe. hugs
Date: 8/31/2008 1:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 13546    Wow, what a crazy sounding storm. But it doesn't surprise me considering the area you are in at the moment.. that must have been freaky, and yet, interesting as well!
