Share a Memory...Your first car -- Purple Rose

My very first car was a 1979 Buick Skylark, 4 door, beige.  My Papa died about 2 months before I turned 16 and to my surprise on my 16th birthday, there it was in the driveway with a big bow on it.  I was very shocked 'cause my Dad had bought a really old Fairlane (I think that's what it was) and kept telling me that that was going to be my car when I turned 16 (oh...I would have been so embarressed if it had been!).  Anyway, I was just glad to have a car-I stayed on the road-I was hardly home-then 2 wks after getting the car and my license, I totaled the car-that will be another share a memory post at a later date.

So, share a memory about your first car....

Date: 9/4/2008 7:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 13546    My first car was a green, '93 Ford Taurus. I named her Lola, and she was a pretty good car, lasted me quite a few years. But then.. the heat went on her.. and some other bad bad problems.. :p I had to retire her last year! But .. I will always remember my first car!
Date: 9/4/2008 7:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 64365    My first car was an 84 Ford Escort. (I'm not counting the ones that my ex husband would not let me drive). Anyway, that car got me everywhere I needed to go for a year until I filled it up with Deisel accidentally. Boy I'm tellin' you...it was a rough ride after that. I'd be driving down the street and it would all of a sudden start jumpin, and I would be so embarassed. When I finally found out what was wrong with it, I was trading it in for a brand new car. I hated to see that little car go.
Date: 9/4/2008 7:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 55297    Mine was a 1996 Chevy Lumina, dark blue... It was my moms car before it was mine, and shed had it for like... 5 years? I drove that car for 3 years until the overdrive went out, then we sold it to my then boyfriend for $700 and bought me a 1998 Ford Escort, in a carribean ocean blue... :)
Date: 9/4/2008 7:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 5301    ...my first car was a 1962 Ford Galaxie 500. After that one went to the great beyond, I was given a '61 4 door Impala for doing a body and paint on my aunt's other car. The classics just kept coming.
Date: 9/4/2008 8:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 3263    1990 Geo Metro, aka clown car. It had more doors than cylinders! (4 door, 3 cylinder). MAN I trashed that car! Nobody told me that I had to CHANGE the oil, and it kept burning through oil to the point that I'd have to put a quart in every other day or so. The car died on me the same day that my mom died-the engine AND tranny went, and if that wasn't bad enough we were 3 hours from home. Worst day of my life, hands down!!!!!!
Date: 9/4/2008 9:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    my first car.. an 88 ford tracer, hatch back, 4 door.. nice little car perky too.. my dad came home with it when i was just 16 didn't even have my learners and said "here's your car you owe me $650" lol it was a really really good deal at the time(it was a trade in at the lot he works at) then he proceeded to do a ton of work to it i ended up rolling it about a year later down a dirt logging road.. they don't teach you accident prevention when learning how to drive.. like how to correct when fishtailing down a dirt road
Date: 9/4/2008 11:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 37150    I still have my first car: 1986 Honda Civic, lightish blue color. It takes about 5 minutes to warm up before I can drive it (even if it's hot) but it gets me where I need to go and I've had it since I was 17.My dad bought it for $1000 with his friend. I always went out, too once I got my car. It's old, but it's still truckin' lol! *knocks on wood* I like this post. Thanks for the memories!
Date: 9/4/2008 11:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 37150    *from his friend...Ps. my car has had a lot of carburetor problems, too.
Date: 9/5/2008 12:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 11199    my first car was my parents 1968 chevy impala. it was gold and had a white top. it's a classic now and i wish i had it.
Date: 9/5/2008 4:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 14909    My first car was a 74' Camero. I had it for 2 years before it was wrecked, and NO it wasn't my fault. A car was stalled in front of me and the guy following me was drunk and ran the light behind me and slammed me from the rear. I cried it only had 45,000 miles on it.
Date: 9/5/2008 7:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 62983    My first car was a purple 1974 Volvo. That was dubbed the "Grape Mobile" - It was common for me to drive around while playing "heard it through the grapevine". lol My dad said that he wanted me to have a safe car to drive, so yeah... I was driving a purple tank.
Date: 9/5/2008 8:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 59418    I still have my first car (I only got it in May this year) :) It's a 2006 Nissan Micra...I love it :) So lovely to drive!
Date: 9/5/2008 8:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    My very first car was a 79 Buick Skylark, too! But it was a 2 door and white. I bet we had the same beige/black plaid interior, though ;o) Mine was a dust bomb... I had to travel 2 miles on dirt roads to get home, but couldn't have the windows down or it filled up with road dust. It also had no a/c. July and August really sucked. I drove it for 2 years, then bought a Firebird.
Date: 9/5/2008 9:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 42703    My first car was a tan 1983 Chevy Malibu station wagon! My dad bought it for $500, took about $900 to get it running good. It was a automatic, but for some reason I kept having transmission trouble. Drove it for about a year, sold it to someone for a demo derby.
Date: 9/5/2008 9:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 42703    *for use in a demo derby.
Date: 9/5/2008 10:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 64637    My first car was and still is a 1997 red plymouth neon. It has body damage, but still runs good. I take care of it because I would really like to be blessed with another car. Somehow I manage to fit my 3 kids and all their car seats in it! I hope to get another one soon, my kids are getting bigger and so is everything that I have to tote around for them!:)~~~~MidnightSun
Date: 9/5/2008 7:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 18928    1986 Chevy Cavalier. I was so proud of the pop up sun roof. lol :)
Date: 9/6/2008 7:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 17014    My first car was a 1984 Chevy Celebrity, dark sparkly blue. One cop said it was gray on a speeding ticket and another cop said it was black, der, colorblind cops or what? lmao, thought about trying to say it wasn't my car in court cause the color on the ticket was wrong.... Boy, I drove that car into the ground and hit countless (little) things with it, but it still took a licking and kept on ticking!! LOL
Date: 9/8/2008 2:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 18155    1965 Shelby GT 500, 426 c.i., twin turbos, top speed, supposedly well in excess of, naw, I forget but it had 200 mph. on the speedometer
