Everyone knows I'm in over my head ~silversnake~

So lately I have been extremely moody. Mainly because finding a teaching job is a royal pain in the behind. On every interview i go on they explain that they have 30 + applicants for one position. I've had several interviews in the last week and they all seemed promising. Every interview I got, "wow thats a great answer," "that's impressive" and so on. But did I get any jobs? No! It's getting frustrating I graduated college in 2006 and I am still sitting here with nothing but as a waitress and substitute teaching. I'm almost 25, I know that's not old, but I feel like by now I should have something figured out. Instead I'm sitting here angry and all I can think of is how I have tomorrow night off and how maybe i should go to the bar and throw back a few (I haven't had more then 1 or 2 social drinks since Jan).

I feel like I'm running out of places to go. Eric (my boyfriend) keeps telling me you will find a job be patient you make enough money right now to make your bills and get by so don't stress things will work out. I, however, feeling annoyed am sitting here thinking yea this coming from the guy who already has a great career and makes plenty of money and doesn't have to worry about if it will be a good week at the restaurant for tips or not.

I just don't know what to do at this point. I feel like I am just going to lose my temper and blow up eventually. I'm frustrated, I'm tired, I'm over worked (I average 40 hours a week waitressing plus whenever I am needed for subbing), and under paid (I make enough to cover my bills and gas).

The only thing keeping me going right now is the fact that Eric and I are going on vacation for a week in October, that concept is heaven (since I haven't had a vacation longer then a day since last November).

I mean what do you do in a job market that sucks? I mean i have 3 friends in the same boat as me right now and they are just as annoyed and frustrated. I've even tried for jobs outside my career (secretary/receptionist) but am having little to no luck there either.

Anyone have any advice for me even if its not job advice how about advice on howo to keep my head on through all this frustration?

Be really, really persistant- persistance ALWAYS pays off in the end. Consider all your options. Do whatever you have to do to get your foot in the door- volunteer someplace, take a part-time position or a job for lower pay, take a lower-paying position for a place you'd like to work then try to push your way into a better one.
Date: 9/5/2008 11:02:00 AM  ( Admin )   Snakey, the only thing that helps me when I feel like you do is to remember this. The only thing worry changes is your mental health. Find the list of things that you are happy about and review that list only. Toss the worry list. Do what you can to make things better but don't let it destroy your life. Be as happy as your happy list can make you. Snakey :(h x 10000

Date: 9/6/2008 6:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 4144    you're 25 years old. you're not ancient! drinking won't help. all that will do is eat into an already streched paycheck and you will have nothing to show for it. i know it's hard be try to be patient and be thankful you have a job that at least covers the bills and gas. a lot of people can't afford both especially with gas prices.
