One evening in November while I was at work, my thirteen year old son called me trembling over the phone... He said, "Mom, you have to come home, Dad's been hit by a car and they need to talk to you!" I couldn't believe it... I was stunned but immediately left work and came home. While driving, I was screaming, crying, and pleading with God to make my Husband be okay, to even be alive. I drove straight home, right through the accident scene. I didn't even know what hospital he was at. When I arrived, my son was in the doorway holding the phone. I took it out of his hands and heard a voice saying,"You need to get to the hospital right away, your Husband has been in a terrible accident." I finally got a neighbor to watch my children and went to the hospital. I went into the emergency room where they immediately wanted insurance information(of course...) then they sat me in a little room, away from the others... I began to cry because I didn't know what was going on. Finally,(which it felt like ages but only a few minutes), the Doctor came in and told me that my Husband had a compound fracture of his left leg and they had to run more tests. They led me back to the room that he was in and I was completely frightened. I walked in and saw blood running down the top of his head... there were so many tubes and wires! I went to his face which was coated in dried blood, held back the tears and said, "Hey Baby." We went for the Cat Scan and that's when we found out that his neck was broken in three places. It was so much... I didn't even know how we were going to get through this. Doctors were great though. They put a Halo on his head and an exterior fixture to help repair his shattered leg. Thank God that he wasn't killed or paralyzed. I know that accidents happen, but some people think that we should let this go. Some people are cruel because they don't realize all what someone goes through when they are injured in this way. I feel that this girl that hit him, was careless while driving on the road... My Husband was charged with a DUI on a bike. A bike that has no motor. And to top it off, my Husband did not have any alcohol in his system. The officer just assumed that he was. This charge was thrown out of court. He was not under the influence. This was careless driving of the girl. She has had four other accidents prior to this one. Two of those she was sighted for. She also has had numerous speeding tickets. We have a Civil Suit out there that hopefully will pay for the over $75,000 dollars in medical treatment. How it changed my life:This has taught me that no matter how clear things may be, someone is there to make it complicated even when accidents happen. We trust this in the hands of the Lord... CG
