My advise is do NOT use peroxide! It will kill your hair.It will dry your hair out.It will be brittle and coarse.I suggest sun in or nice and easy. Please do not use peroxide. If you do use it. You will have to use it several times anyway. Especially if you have very dark hair. spacekase |

It depends how dark or light your hair already is. If your hair is dark-- long! If it is already pretty light, then not more than 10 minutes or so. |

Just your hair at this time...but please stay away from peroxide...it's nasty and can cause allergies and if used incorrectly can cause your hair to break off or even fall out...my advice is if you really have to have blonde hair please let a professional handle it. |

Please don't use peroxide, it will fry your hair. If you don't want to pay for professional work, then use a bleaching dye, they are sold at most stores. |

I had a friend who used sun in- which used to have peroxide in it- and it turned her dark hair orange. if you have very dark or even brown hair, it will most likely turn redish if you try to lighten it yourself. save up and go to the salon or maybe try to add different colored highlights to your hair insted of blond. i am blond and we don't have more fun LOL unless we choose to, it just doesn't come naturally CBLOSSOM |

I am an beautician, and I can tell you that straight peroxide will not turn your hair blonde. It is more orange than blonde. Also, sun in will not turn it blonde either if your hair is dark, and Sun In will also leave your hair fried. If you wan to be a blonde I suggest bleaching. If your hair is a light color you can use just a blonde color. This is only if you want to do this at home. If your hair is dark and you want it blonde I suggest you do a heavy frost, other wise it is a pain to maintane. Good Luck.SAP |

Peroxide is a substance that will cause some of your hair to fall out and its not at all healthy for you. It will only afect the hair on your head at the moment... when it grows out it will be your natural hair color. I suggest you go to a stylists and get blonde highlights instead.. then it will not damage your hair as much and wont be as much of a pain when it grows out |

With all due respect,I was faced with the same problem in 1963 working as a life guard and I had to get the very front of my hair blond,I tried lemon juice to speed up the process, stayed out in the sun more added more peroxide, careful with the eyes, and right now I cannot honestly remember how long it took but it did work.Reading the question is like a trip back years. You have made my day.18155 |

IF the hair is black, it has to go through 7 stages to get to pale blonde. Black, brown, red, orange, yellow, pale blonde to white. Depending on where your hair color lies in that spectrum, straight peroxide would only lighten just slightly a tad more than that. It destroys the natural hair sheen, and it becomes like straw. Your best bet is to pay for a professional job at the salon. The Thinker |

i have always used peroxide on my hair to lighten it a bottle or to over a week mixed in with shampoo has always done the trick my hair is like a dark dishwater blonde now and the peroxide adds nice blond highlights. Followed by a hot oil treatment and/or a good shampoo the damage seems minimal. Also everytime i buy hair dye in a box or go to the salon to color it it either lasts a very short amount of time and the stuff from the store washes out almost completely. Peroxide is the only thing that has ever worked for me. |
