We are a military family of four, and moved into Base Housing in late November of 1996. We'd only been settled in for a few weeks, when we started noticing strange occurences happening in the house. The first experience we had was when we were sitting in our living room watching TV one night. There was a Little Tikes Zoo on a shelf near the TV, and my husband asked if I'd seen the little toy giraffe rocking from side to side. Naturally, my reply was "yeah right", but then I saw it for myself. Two of the little plastic animals were literally tilting from one side to the other. We stared in disbelief, but didn't really say much to each other about it. During the next few months, we began to notice other small things happening. Glasses sitting next to us on end tables tipping over without being touched, bathroom mats moving themselves from the upstairs bathroom to the downstairs hall during the night, waking up to find all of our kitchen cabinet doors wide open. We kind of laughed it all off and credited it to "the ghost", but I don't think we really believed it...until we heard it speak, and realized it watches us come and go. About a year after we'd been in the house, my husband was working a "mid", and I was awakened one morning around 2am when I thought one of my kids was crying in bed. I walked into their room, checked the top bunk, then bottom bunk but they were both sound asleep. I was just about to turn and leave the room, when I heard a child's voice behind me whisper "Mommy". Now since both of my kids were in front of me, and no one else was in the house, I just knew if I turned around, I would see the ghost of some long dead child before me, so I calmly got my kids, took them to bed with me, but didn't sleep a wink the rest of the night. One evening, not long after that, we were coming home from dinner, and as we pulled up to the house, the curtain in the kitchen window was pulled back as if someone was looking out the window. When my husband turned off the car, the curtain fell back into place. Our first thought was that there was an intruder in the house, so my husband grabbed a bat from the car, went in the house and began checking all the rooms, but found no-one. The front and back doors were locked up tight, so we credited it to the ghost again. Since then, we frequently notice the kitchen or bedroom curtains at the front of the house being pulled back when we leave, or returning to a closed position when we come home. It's kind of sad really, because we sometimes wonder if it's possible for a spirit to be lonely and watch and wait for us to come home. We've noticed over the years that we really only get visits from it every 1-1/2 months or so, but ALWAYS around Thanksgiving and Christmas, so we figured it was getting close to it's busy season! Sure enough, I was upstairs cleaning one night last week after my kids went to bed and the ghost was up to it's tricks again. My husband was working and I kept hearing noises downstairs like closet doors opening and closing. I went downstairs to see if he was home, and the full glass of soda I had sitting on and end table had been emptied...onto the couch, but my husband wasn't home, so I figured "Casper" was just making his presence known. We've never had any sightings (though we'd like to now that we're used to him/her)or felt the cold drafts many people describe, but we have no doubt that that we do have some kind of ghost, spirit, poltergeist...something...that makes a 5th member of our family. How it changed my life:I don't really know that the "ghost" has CHANGED any of our lives, but we are defenitely more inclined to believe stories about the supernatural and paranormal, and will greatly miss him/her when we have to move on to our next assignment.
