Hi Lesa, this is an interesting post. Evry year I think about getting a detector but never seem to get around to it. As for the where and where not to go, if You contact a local detector dealer, he should have info on the regulations in Your area. Sharks, no I wouldnt get in the water either. Good luck to You. |

My older brother is into this heavily! He rides his Harley all over the country (when he has days off from computer programming) and he attends conventions on metal detecting. He has found gold nuggets and coins. I could ask him about some good books for you if you would like. He know of some good ones. I will message you when I find out....~8-) |

LESA.if you ever really ever get into metal decting, let it be under/water or on land, the things that you'll find will amaze you.And i must warn you it is habit forming.lol good luck, and let me know how you do.We are going today, where and old house was torn down, that was well over 100 years old.We got permission from the owners of course.the last time we did this back in the summer,we came up with a gold ring that was lost back in the early twenty's.the lady lost it when she lived there.it was said the ring came off her finger when she was throwing out bath water.when she passed away the property was sold,my husband and i now own the property. We also go to the beach, underneath the sand, where people have lost all kind of stuff, once again good luck....love |

Hey StarTwo, hope you do well, I have 5 acres and have played with it on my property, there was an old moble home here in the woods back in the sixties, after a heavy rain I found some blocks that looked like they may have been a walk way, I had my husband pull up the two foot in diameter slabs and ran the detector where the cracks inbetween the slabs were and found a bunch of change, two of the pennies were wheat pennies and one silver dime. YES!!!!! To me that was a good find on my own property, I also found what appeared to be an old copper belt buckle that my husband said could have been from the civil war era,COOL. Thanks for the motivation, keep in touck and I will do the same, feel free to e-mail me, my e-mail is in my profile, I have to sip my computer in because it is not acting right, may not have it for two weeks, waaaaaa. Thanks bunches, LESA. |

My Dad is a metal dectector. He has done this for many years. He has found money and rings, lost items for friends. He always has his best results in abadoned houses or old farm areas. Also did the beaches in Michigan but didn`t find much. The book Treasure Hunters has a lot of ideas and locations. It is a magazine type book also your local library. He researched maps of old homesteads and trails. Got owners permission to hunt. I hope this helps a little. Illana |
