Very good question. I smoked from the time I was 15 until this past October. I'm 33 and I have not felt better. What keeps me away from them is chewing gum, and actualy picturing my kids lives without their dad. That alone scared me so bad, that I stay away. Just know that you are stronger than the cigarettes. Do what you are doing now. typing takes up your time and keeps you occupied. write something or take an online keyboarding skill coarse to improve your typing skills. it takes your consentration off smoking and it benifits you skillfully too! ![]() |

I went cold turkey a couple of months ago, and I slip every once in a while.....but willpower is a great thing, when I want to light up I think of all the bad stuff smoking causes and I look at my kids and realize they don't need the smoke around them.....it works for most ppl going cold turkey, but sometimes you need to see your doctor.... ![]() |

Please writeany suggestions down and send them to me please.Seriously.I have just about everything, short of tying myself to a tree. Guess I am just weak willed when I see all the people going 'cold turkey'. ^ weeks in Marine Boot camp would break the need, if boot camp didn't kill me first. ![]() |

When I quit before I just quit cold turkey. For me it was the best way. I smoked for 8 years at the time I quit. It was hard for me for about a week then I was ok. the only problem is I started up again due to stress about 6 months later and have been smoking ever since(dumb). But now I don't want to quit. I can quit cold turkey when i actually want to. But i have to totally want to without a doubt want to quit again. -Mirada69 ![]() |

Hi Orionco, Go to the health food store and buy a bottle of L-Glutamine, a natural amino acid. It has been used by drug and alcohol treatment centers for years. They just don't tell their clients so that when the cravings come back after they leave, the clients come back. If you get the edge on it with the nutrient, by taking it for at least 1 month, you will be well out of the way of the cravings. Another benefit is sharpened mental capabilities. Drink at least a half gallon of clean water everyday and take a good multivitamin. You will be home free in no time at all!! Its now going on 5 years for me...~*Charivalah*~ ![]() |

I just quit six months ago, and I know how rough it can be. I quit cold turkey. I went online to various web sites and read about people with lung diseases from smoking. It was a real eye opener. I feel so much better. I started noticing a difference in myself in just a few weeks. Best of luck to you, it's the best thing you can do for yourself. DoodleBug ![]() |

I tried the patches, and could not stop cold turkey. I tried Zy Ban, and the first week of taking the pills, you continue to smoke, but after a few days, when you light up, a cigarette taste horrible, and you can't finish a whole one. I would take a few puffs and snuff it out, and it went on this way until about mid week of the second week, when I stopped altogether. The ZY Ban is suppose to stop the craving, and you take it for about 4 weeks. By that time, most of the nicotine is out of your system. The biggest thing for me was the psychological craving, the habit of having a cig with that first cup of coffee in the morning, the ritual, you might say. I had tried several times before but this time I am doing mental imaging of things like white teeth, being able to smell things fresh and clean, feeling better physically, and not so tired. I chew lots of gum, drink lots of water and juices to help rid my body of the toxins. When I get tense or stressed, and want to smoke, I try to remove myself from the situation, and do something pleasent, or take a walk, Or call a good friend who knows I'm trying to kick it. IF you really WANT TO QUIT ![]() |

| Date: 2/8/2001 9:56:00 AM Every time I felt like having a cigarette I would do some sort of exercise. A couple of little stomach crunches, leg lifts etc.. it's very impowering, and you'll tone up. |

| Date: 2/28/2001 9:59:00 PM From Authorid: 27929 author27929 here. I have tried to quit over and over again, but even after losing my Dad to lung cancer, and hearing him cough and choke for years, every time he lit a smoke, I still am not strong enough to give them up. I am now 53 and feel really dumb every time I lite one up. At least I know I am. Keep trying. They should hang the cigarette companies for what they did to us. |

A lot of my friends smoke and they always say like it's becaue they are so stress. But in Japan they did this scientific study and they found out a cigarette only reduces stress to the level of a non-smoker. Instead cigarettes actually increases stress because the addiction creates the constant feeling you need to have one which causes so much anxiety and even adds to one's stress level. Good luck on quitting! Don't let cigarettes control you. ![]() |

It was something both my husband and myself claimed we was going to do..someday(smile)...It was when we was traveling back home.. from Sc to Ohio when we paid way to much that I refused to smoke them and well its when we threw them out the window...Thinking we would get up away and realize we couldn't do it and buy another pack and feel foolish for throwing the expensive pack out ...... Well we both was so bull headed we didn't want to be the one who broke down and the longer we went without the more we wanted to continue. It was hard as with travleing to move back home and the long ride with being in a car was really hard not to snap at the other and well we did go threw hard moments during this ...Our chest pains we was getting was making us think maybe to quit wasn't a real healthy thought if it was just going to kill us lol ok you guessed it was hard we had moments we wanted to puff but we didn't so cold turkey along with high priced pack helped us. Good luck its easy now after 1 1/2 years but was hard back then. ~Family Matters~ ![]() |
| Date: 3/25/2001 4:33:00 PM I've been smoking since I was 14 and now I am 28, I would love to quit so please quit for all of us that want to so we can follow the trend, these ciggarette companies are so filthy rich and we smokers are poor- lets change that all together , I am inspired by all of the comments to quit right now since I am out of ciggarettes. Use the power of God that he can fill you up with peace and love so you can handle stress. It is a sin to worry - you have to give your worries to God, so lets utilize our natural resources and let God help us smokers to quit and be his follower. I hope this makes sense, good luck and God Bless. HH |
| Date: 4/5/2001 4:20:00 PM I used to smoke years ago. One time my guardian Angels showed me a grave in a cemetary and it was covered with cigarettes!!!!!!! I was told , if you don't stop smoking , this is where you will end up! So, I asked them to help me and I started out with 1/2 pkg. and cut down to 2 a day and just kept it like that until they were gone. I haven't smoked since.Your Angels will help you too, if you ask them! |

Congratulations!!!I hope you stick to your goal. I smoked for almost 35 years and quit cold turkey about 15 years ago. It's a good thing too because when I smoked they cost 25 cents or 50..now they cost over $3 a pack. WOW think what you can do with that money. Keep busy, brush your teeth when the urge hits and in about a week you will be able to handle it. I have NEVER lost my taste for cigs and I could go back in a heartbeat..but I dont NEED to smoke. It does get easier!!Hang in there. ![]() |
