DO YOU THINK CRIMINALS SHOULD BE FORCED INTO THE ARMY?

HiI was thinking maybe instead of putting people in Prison all the time if there not really bad physcos why not force them into the Army?. I mean the amount of people in Prison for minor crimes is ridiclous.I'm not saying people whocommit crimes should go unpunished not at all, but Prisons seem to make people just more and more expert at crime also they get very angry. So when they come out there so angry they go on doing it. Maybe if the Army got to them it might give them a purpose in thier lives something to aim towards instead ofjust crime. Iknow it wouldnt work for all but some it would which would mean fewer criminals for us lot to suffer at the hands of. I think they should do it what do you think?

Date: 2/9/2001 7:03:00 AM  From Authorid: 25828    I've always thought that the ones on death row or serving a life sentence should be used instead of the innocent animals for experiments...after all, they would makes great strides if they had humans to experiment with instead of animals..and those on death row will die any way...and as for cruel and unusual punishment...maybe the could be lobotomized first or kept unconscious throughout experimentation..~heather
Date: 2/9/2001 7:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 17516    Dear Author, Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think you must be ignorant of what the military is really like. It is not Gomer Pyle, okay? With people running around in uniform all the time, living in Quonset huts. I live on an Air Force base (the Army and the AF aren't that different). Let me describe the environment you would like to send hardened criminals to. I live in a lovely house in the housing section of the base with hundreds of other families. We feel safe here and do not need to lock our doors. There are 2 elementary, and 1 middle school on the base. All of our children safely walk to and from school every day. Our base also contains a grocery store, convenience store, gas station, dept store, library, community centers, bowling alley, theatre, restaurants...you get the picture, don't you? In other words a military base is just like any other small town. For the privelege of serving our country we must be willing to be underpaid, live away from our extended families, move frequently, be separated from our spouses for long periods while they deploy, etc. Now you ask us to live with criminals? Are military members really thought so little of? I find the fact that you can even conceive of this, disturbing at best. Karma Killer
Date: 2/9/2001 7:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 20104    I agree with Heather about expiramenting on criminals on death row. I dont know about putting them in the Army because what about the people who are there because they want to be. I'm sure they wouldn't want to be bunking with a serial killer or someone who raped boys. Jamie
Date: 2/9/2001 7:31:00 AM  From Authorid: 24924    That is totally ridiculous! You want to put M-16 Rifles in the hands of murderers! You want to teach them weaponery? NO WAY WOULD THEY FIGHT for our country! They would start their own army, their own wars and use their army training for their own purposes. OK!!?? Very POOR idea. The Thinker
Date: 2/9/2001 7:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 20721    No way! My husband was in the Army and would you like to have to put your trust in someone who isn't above screwing their own life up and you want them watching someone elses?
Date: 2/9/2001 7:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 12835    My brother is a Colonel in the Army, and he kicks people "out" of the Army who are criminals. A criminal is a criminal and should be punished accordingly. Now, maybe they could change jails and prisons to be more like military boot camps instead of just a place to sleep, get a free meal, and watch tv. Thats my opinion.
Date: 2/9/2001 7:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 24963    That isn't a very good idea to me. I wouldn't want to put a rifle and other artiliery in the hands of a criminal! to me that would just be insane(sorry I don't mean offense to anyone else! just my opinion) -Mirada69
Date: 2/9/2001 8:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 14754    I Don't Think So!! NO WAY!! ~Tweeti~
Date: 2/9/2001 8:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 15033    Probably because they can't have a bunch of phycho recruits killing each other and civilians...And there ain't no way they could give them weapons...That is why...Love,
Date: 2/9/2001 8:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 18698    NO way! I was an MP at one time and that would be biggest mistake one would do. Give criminals the training of solder (they are trained to kill remember?). Bad mistake!!!!! ~Mythe~
Date: 2/9/2001 8:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 24856    I would not put criminals in the military. The military serves to protect our country and the men, women and their families sacrifice a great deal to fulfill this calling.Putting a weapon in a criminals hand would definitely be the wrong approach. Why not run a prison like a military boot camp minus the weapons?? otter2
Date: 2/9/2001 9:08:00 AM  From Authorid: 18781    I don't think that it would be safe to let them be in the military. I mean if they are in prison for drugs they would still be able to get them. I also wouldn't want them having loaded weapons. I agree with Heather about using the ones on death row for medical research. They caused someone to loose their life so maybe they should try and help find cures and saves a few lives. Aester
Date: 2/9/2001 9:09:00 AM    Nobody should ever be forced into the military for any reason except WWIII or something at that scale. Besides, Prisoners are Americans, and if it's against their religion to kill (lets say they robbed a perse from a old lady), then he'd be forced into the service, and be forced to kill against his will. That only makes the person worse, not better, and is unconstitutional. Xenon-Trioxide-131
Date: 2/9/2001 9:49:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 25896    Hiall Im sorry i didnt mean to annoy anyone its just our British govermant want todo it. I wouldnt feel safe either. Was just interested what you thought. Sorry xxx
Date: 2/9/2001 10:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 25438    I think what the author ment was like petty criminals...and in a time of war when they were making people go, I don't think it would be a bad idea to take the white collar criminals first. NOT the murders or the rapist or the molestors or the violent criminals, just people that did like embezzlement and things like that. As far as just inlisting criminals in the army, I don't think thats a good idea, but I don't think that was the point of this either...what do you guys think?
Date: 2/9/2001 10:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 18737    Hiya, *???*... First, I would like to suggest you "sign" your posts so we know what to call you... Thanks... Second, I would like to say hi to my fellow "vet" 95BXX ... HI!!! Mythe... I was a 95B40, know what that is??? *smile*... AND, to address your "story," the military is a good place for young people to learn discipline and responsibility. ... Military personnel are no different than civilians regarding "criminal behavior" so protests that "criminals" should not be allowed in the military are hollow at best. There are already "criminals" in the military, Leavenworth is full of them... *smile*... Juvenile delinquents MIGHT benefit from military service depending on the "crime." ... Years ago, it was not unusual for a judge to give a juvenile the option of enlisting in the military or serving jail time. I think that is a viable option in some *but NOT ALL* cases... May peace and harmony be forever yours. /s/ J.T.
Date: 2/9/2001 2:08:00 PM    Terrible idea. Our armed forces are there to protect us not endanger us even more! I realize that the army currently has some of those citizens who can't or won't work elsewhere but I don't think we need to reinforce our army instead of handicapping it.
Date: 2/9/2001 6:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 23610    Well...once again I agree with Karma Killer. Most military families and bases I have seen are very nice neighborhoods where people all respect each other and families feel safe. Why should the military be stuck with this responsibilty of reforming criminals and why should military personnel and their families bear the brunt of it? -Lady Nyx
Date: 2/9/2001 7:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 14571    I wouldn't want it to happen. Britian tried it from about the 1600's till WW1 I believe. And their armies had to have some of the strictest military laws and the most army police of all the other European armies. And by WW1 the British army was in shambles because the vast majority of infantry was formed by the unemployable and criminals. So until 1916 the British army was practically useless except for cannon fodder. Using criminals today would hurt the military more than it would help.
Date: 2/9/2001 7:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 14571    I said some of that wrong. Throughout much of the wars the British army was in shambles. During the Crimean war in the 1850's the British army had to rely mainly on the Navy and had trouble forcing back the Russians. And during the Napoleonic wars up until Wellington took over the British army was a complete failure. And do I need to mention the American Revolution? It's a bad idea.
Date: 2/10/2001 10:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 26709    I think this is a good idea in Illinois we have boot camps for prisoners of smaller crimes that do work for the cities and towns around here
Date: 2/10/2001 11:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 17516    Those boot camps are specifically designed for rehabilitation of prisoners. Military personnel only attend boot camp for 6 to 8 weeks. After that the members are expected to perform a multitude of specialized tasks. If criminals were allowed into the military, in addition to problems to numerous to go into here, a huge amount of resources would be required to maintain discipline. Why foist criminals on us? Why not just maintain miliary/bootcamp discipline in existing prisons? The idea of criminals in the military would solve no problems and create many. Karma Killer
Date: 2/10/2001 10:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 22361    I know alot of criminals who would make great soldiers, but one mistake and they're not fit to serve their country anymore. That's wrong. They shouldn't be forced into the military, but they shouldn't be banned from serving, either. I made a mistake in my past, and now I can't serve in the military, vote, or ever hold public office. I know some people think that's fair, but they're wrong. -Mighty Mouse-
Date: 2/11/2001 12:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 19927    No way jose!!i don't want murderers and rapist defending our country!much less having guns in their possession!! *CC*
Date: 2/14/2001 11:31:00 AM    I acutally think that would be a very good idea. I know a few people who were sent to prison for non violent crimes and, and thet actually come out worse and violent towards other people after they come out. Not to start a race debate but, the people I know also go in like liking all races and come out only liking their own, the race wars in prisons are bad. So, I think putting criminals in the army would teach them respect towards all people ,not to disrespect certain people. It would also clear up the over crowding in our prisons. It would also give them a goal in life....
Date: 2/17/2001 10:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 276    This on paper sounds like a workable plan. Get the lower level criminals and give them a second chance. Let the military life straighten them out. And I believe 20 years ago this was able to happen. Unfortunatly, in todays military there is no means to straighten anyone out. You can not even raise your voice at someone without getting into trouble. The military today, I am afraid to say, is no more then a day care for the most part. If the people in charge upset the junior personnel then they can be brought up on charges. Not many people who have 15-20 years in the service want to chance losing retirement to try and give tough love. You can thank your congressman for the fact that we currently have a military that is afraid to set the standard. We just try and get by without losing our retirement over some lawsuit. I know a guy who two years ago was a company commander in boot camp and thought a recruit was over weight, which he was by Navy standards, and he worked him extra hard to lose the weight. Well, by graduation the recruit was within weight standards and the company commander was removed from naval service for being to hard on recruits. He had 18 years in the navy and lost it all......
Date: 2/20/2001 1:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 27777    Well, its ok I guess but maybe jail is where they belong. Then if you did that then the Army would be packed!
Date: 2/21/2001 12:10:00 PM    I think you have the right idea. The only thig is the army tranes killers. In jalie some may become better at petty crimes but if you send them to the army the come back killers. So would you rather have killers or worry about replacing your car?I would rather have my life over a few matriel things.
Date: 2/21/2001 8:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 27946    killers...they are both ummmmm it could work
Date: 2/23/2001 4:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 25693    I tottaly agree. Thanx for sharing!

Date: 2/23/2001 4:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 22621    Are you a communist?
Date: 3/2/2001 3:01:00 PM    Not a good idea. It's enough of a sleep deprevator wondering if whether or not someone like Charles Manson has what would be for a criminal easy access to military artillary already. Imagine having all doubt removed. jb
Date: 3/3/2001 2:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 17259    I don't think criminals should be in military Period.
Date: 3/15/2001 1:23:00 PM    What army? Just any army so they can fight with each other?
Date: 3/17/2001 8:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    I live on a military base and while we do have some crime (stealing car stereos is popular), it's still a lot safer than the civilian world. For Holloween we have people coming as far away as 40 miles to bring there children trick-or-treating here. As someone pointed out criminals are kicked out of the Army, not welcomed in.
Date: 3/17/2001 2:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 30374    I think that they should have a choice like to take time off their punishment or something like that but I don't think they should be forced.
Date: 3/27/2001 9:47:00 PM    And give them guns?
Date: 3/28/2001 10:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 31014    i think its a good idea to have young offenders sent into the army get them before they go on to serious crimes but the older offenders no just use them for experiments i say..Blitterbabe xx
Date: 3/28/2001 1:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 31721    I think that it is good idea..but I think if somebody has committed a crime I think that the victim should choose wheather the criminal should go in the Army!
Date: 3/30/2001 10:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 8961    Helping to defend your country should be a privledge not a punishment. I think forcing criminals to serve in the military would degrade it for the people who volunteer to serve. However, If the country has a draft in effect, I don't believe a petty crime should allow a person to not be drafted.
Date: 3/30/2001 4:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 26733    i think for the criminales that are going to be put to death should be put in the front lines....forced to go out there.....let the enemy waste there bullets instead of spending government money to kill them....its sounds crule but im sure what they did to deserve death wasnt pretty...~~BOOMBOOM~~
Date: 4/7/2001 8:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 30549    Why put them in the army??? If the person is a serial killer like Ted Bundy, this person might just get off on his sick satifaction.
Just giving them the thrill to kill.
Mystical.

Date: 4/15/2001 10:50:00 PM    Yes, I want to hand over weapons from handguns to grenades and fighter aircraft over to criminals.
Date: 4/19/2001 12:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 33717    No, I disagree, put them in the places of these animals for animal testing. Insted call it PRISONER TESTING...
Date: 4/21/2001 9:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 34078    lol, no, i think they should be forced into long haul truck driving
Date: 4/23/2001 3:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 26708    The givernment has used enough sick laws and ploys to get people to fight their meaningless battles enough already. The Army should never be forced upon anyone, noone should have to fight for our governments greed and corruption, the very idea you speak of is obsurd and immoral. I am not the only one who thinks this way, many people (including me) would sooner kill themselves than take part in the Army. ~Android
Date: 4/23/2001 3:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 26708    *government
Date: 4/30/2001 7:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 26717    I really don't think that would work. I think it would be too easy for them to escape. It also would put a great burden on the officers and soldiers. I imagine it ould be hard to train a person that did not want to be there. I think that they should make them work, keep cemeteries clean , streets and highways clean, work ina anything that their county needs help in. They have it too easy, thats for sure. I do think if their punishment was bad enough we wouldn't have as many violaters. CORA

Date: 5/4/2001 9:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 35157    I think that that might not be a good desicion to have people who have commited a felony be out roamin' around with a gun. I mean, that felon might not even go into the army but yet would hold up the army base they are stationed in. The felon might even kill the lieutenants.
