Do you think suicide is a forgivable sin? ...Cool Blizzard

I think that committing suicide is the most selfish thing anyone can do. I know that in the Bible it says that it's wrong, and I've heard in church that if you commit suicide, you will go to Hell. But what if you are a good Christian your WHOLE LIFE, and you've never done anything wrong? What if you just couldn't deal with your life and wanted to end it? Would God forgive you? My best friend and I were talking about this(neither of us are planning on commiting suicide-we just have deep conversations), and it really makes me think. If you are truly sorry about your sin, even if it is murder, you can be forgiven if you ask God. But if one commits suicide and stands before God, what if they were able to explain themselves? What if they were to explain why they could not go on living? Is it possible that they could go to Heaven anyway? I'd like to hear your views on this, and by the way, don't EVER commit suicide... PLEASE!

Date: 2/17/2001 8:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 9707    i dont know if it would be forgiven or not...im not much of a christian..but i have lots of friend,s and know lots of ppl, who desprately want to kill themselves-and i cant think of any way to justify that
Date: 2/17/2001 8:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 17525    i thought about it once, but then i thought, "if my wife comes home and finds me dead she'll KILL me!" I dont feel anyone can say whether god forgives it or not. That is between the person and their creator. We all like to play god now and then, but the final outcome is a personal thing and only the soul and God know what that outcome is. Just my opinion Peace
Date: 2/17/2001 8:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 18737    Hiya, C.B., *Good answer, Osiris ^^^* ... No one can authoritatively state what occurs after death. ... There are many theories, including the biblical theories. ... However, the actions of Jesus were suicide in the most direct sense and was no different than a person lying on a railroad track with a train coming *assuming the "all knowing God" story*. ... One of the theories that I have is that we are confined to earth for violations of spiritual laws. Since the physical realm is a prison for our spirits, murder and suicide are the spiritual equivalent to escaping from "prison." ... The outcome for suicide *IMHO* is to return to earth with even harsher circumstances than currently endured. ... That explains why many "good" people are enduring hardships in this life, they are *possibly* people who have committed murder or suicide in a previous life. ... I would NEVER commit or encourage anyone to commit suicide. IF a person doesn't like it this time, what will they think next time? Or, the time after that? ... *smile*... Just my opinion, no proof or evidence to offer. ... May peace and harmony be forever yours. /s/ J.T.
Date: 2/17/2001 8:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 24317    I have 2 friends that have committed suicide. And Im not sure if God forgives those people for doing it, but I go to sleep at night asking God myself to forgive my two friends and keep them safe, it makes me feel better. At first it really bugged me thinking about my friends having to go to hell just because they were so desperate they took their own lives, but I feel that God does forgive these people -probably because it makes me feel better :) Little Lisa...
Date: 2/17/2001 9:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 15621    I think so....Samson actually killed himself
Date: 2/18/2001 1:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 18232    I think God will forgive this because after all, suicidal people are having an illness such as a chemical imbalance,or deep depression , etc.
Date: 2/18/2001 11:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 17825    well in a way i think its no different than a christian going out and killing smeone else...its the motive behind it,obviously the people in physical pain beyond what they can bear has no evil motives behind it and are probably truely sorry for their thoughts or actions...im not sure about the people who decide to die on a dare like taking risky chances and drugs and such...i think Jesus had a contract with God and he knew what his life held and followed Gods will and i think maybe we all know before we come to earth about our own contract with God and its not something id want to intentionally break if that makes any sense...just my thoughts
Date: 2/18/2001 8:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 5484    i had a great uncle who shot himself at age 74 in the head,he was christian, lost it,i hope he went to heaven, but i dont know on that one...
Date: 2/19/2001 9:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 27603    I think that suicide is as you said, the most selfish act that anyone can commit. I also think that it can't be forgiven. Why, because in order for God to forgive, you have to ask Him, How can you ask for forgiveness when you're already dead. There's no second chances after death. When you die you exit this reality and enter into eternity. Judgement comes. When someone commits suicide I think it is the ultimate act of rejecting God. basically, the person who kills themself is saying, "I don't trust your plan for my life God, I'm going to end it now." God wants us to trust Him. he will not let us endure anything that we cannot handle. Hard times come and go for us all. All we need to do is trust that God has a plan for our lives and He will be faithful in his promises to us (Note that when I speak of God, I am talking the God of the Bible)
Date: 2/19/2001 9:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 27603    As far as being a Christian and committing suicide...well, I think it is the same selfish, untrusting act regardless of who you are.
Date: 2/19/2001 10:46:00 AM    I think it is possible to go to heaven after having committed suicide. When you ask Jesus to forgive you for your sins, he forgives them all (not just the ones you already did but the ones to follow as well). I think if you really are a Christian though, it should never come to suicide. It's true that God judges the heart, and it's the heart we should be concerned about. If you are a Christian and are living accordingly, then you know that you can give to God the problems and trials that come your way. He will help you through them and give you peace. If you trust God, and don't think he's a liar, then claim Jer. 29:11. Trust that he has a purpose for your life and that he wants to help you accomplish that purpose. If you are truly born again, suicide won't be an option. I think suicide is the most prideful thing you can do. But walk humbly, du justly and love mercy and you'll be alright and you won't have to fear death (no matter how you die). So to answer your question, I think it is the attitude and heart behind the suicide that matters. Peaced out...
Date: 2/19/2001 11:08:00 AM    i believe it is
Date: 2/19/2001 8:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 7784    God doesn't buy excuses. Sin is sin, and if you knowingly committ a sin, thinking the whole time, "well, I'll just ask for forgiveness", you've got it all wrong. God wants you to walk in the way of Jesus. Jesus wouldn't have killed himself to get out of a trying situation, and niether should we. Not trying to preach, I'm just giving my opinion, based on what I've learned from reading the Bible. I believe that God will relieve us from this world when he sees fit, and to take it upon ourselves to end it is just selfish and wrong. We don't know what He has in mind for us, and sometimes you have to suffer before you prosper, it's a life lesson that everyone learns eventually.
Date: 2/19/2001 10:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 27398    I think they should be forgiven if they were good their entire life!
Date: 2/20/2001 11:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 28137    Suice, in God's eyes, is murder. You are taking one of his creatures against his will. The difference is that suicide is the only sin for which there can be no repentence, since, obviously, you're dead. Therefore, it would seem that suicide is virtually the only unforgivable sin.
Date: 2/22/2001 6:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 12004    my father in law committed suicide..God might forgive him...BUT I NEVER WILL....as far as Im concerned he took more than just one life that day!!
Date: 3/2/2001 8:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 18364    I believe God does forgive suicide BUT ONLY if rare cases, such as if a person is long suffering, and the torture they go through is too much for them, simply destroyable mentally if you will. I think that might be an honest excuse for a suicide. Also, we all go through the phases in our lives, when simply we feel like nothing is worth to stay and live. But I believe we should always think about others who might be hurt by our death.
