Dry, cracked skin

I always have a problem in the winter with dry skin, particularly on my fingers. The corners, next to the nails get small cracks in them and it's very painful. I play piano, so you can imagine how frustrating it can get. I've tried every brand of skin lotion, including butter, vaseline, and even pure olive oil. Nothing works. I worked in tool and die so the metal dust sucks all the moisture out of the skin.

One day, i gave up and thought about gluing the cracks shut. I found that a couple drops of crazy-glue applied to the crack does a fantastic job of helping it heal and keeps it from hurting. Seriously, this stuff is wonderful. Later i heard dermatologists recommend the same thing. Then i learned that it was used for internal surgery where stitches could not be removed, until the FDA outlawed it.

Well, i swear by it now, FDA or no FDA. But be careful! Do NOT apply it unless you've washed the cut first. You dont want to seal in an infection. Then ONLY apply it to the surface cut to seal up the skin like a band-aid. I use it on any type of cut now. This stuff is wonderful. But again, be careful....the stuff is VERY sticky. Use one drop, allow it to dry, the apply another if you need to. But let it dry in between 'coats' Good luck

Date: 2/19/2001 11:35:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 17525    Oops Tessek...like i said, be careful. You;'ll have to shop around til you find the right dispenser that doesn't get all gooey and dry up. There are a few good ones. One in particular has a little plastic needle in the cap that goes back into the tube to keep it from drying out. Works best for me.

Date: 2/20/2001 12:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 14272    Have you ever used bag balm? It's stuff dairy farmers apply to thier cows' udders. It's good stuff!
Date: 2/20/2001 7:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 14752    That's a great idea!! I get those little cracks on the corners of my fingers and they do HURT. My son fell off the couch a few weeks ago and cracked his head (just the skin) and I took him to ER. So instead of stitches they glued it together. It's this stuff called Dermabond that they used. I was very surprised and thought it was something totally new, but I guess it's just based on an old concept. Thanx for sharing!!

Date: 3/9/2001 2:48:00 AM    My hands crack and bleed. I use Udder Balm and it works great. Better than any hand cream I've used. You can buy it at a feed store. It's used on cow udders.
