In my home town of Watsonville,CA there is an old tree right by the lake. The story goes, there was a mother who was upset with her daughters behavior, (drugs and whatnot..) who would go to this lake and pray for help not only for her but for her daughter as well. This went on for many months and one day during her daily ritual she noticed a ball of light and fallowed it with her eyes. From this light she claims to have been visited by the Virgin Mary herself. Some might say she is just a looney, but if you go to the tree, (as many still do on a daily basis)look up about three quarters to the top you can see an image of the Virgin Mary, head bowed hands together as if in prayer, that seems to have been carved into the tree. (Research has been done,they can't disprove the authenticity of the image) If you go there now there was a shrine erected with a chain link fence around it that people put pictures of loved ones on, leave offerings of flowers and candles. To see the appirition you need to reflect light on the tree with a mirror. (the sun is behind the tree and the leaves block out much of the light) I've seen it and can remember many news vans and magazine people there so it was documented. My neighbor who couldn't walk much due to sickness, visited the tree on a daily basis her husband took her in her wheelchair, she prayed and got the help she was looking for, She can now walk fairly quickly with the help of only a cain. How it changed my life:I guess I'm proud to be from my home town. I go back to visit, when I can. The park is only 2-3 miles from where I grew up.
