My brother "Danny O" was bitten by one. It swelled up immedietely and soon became infected. The venom started eating away his flesh and the doctors could not stop it from spreading. He had to go to emergency twice for help. Eventually, it healed but it left a small hole about the size of a quarter there...Love, |

Were you bitten??? Go to a hospital immediately! A dear friend of mine was bitten. Within 24 hours it swelled up and several months later he still had a gaping wound in his arm. The skin will begin to rot away and emerge into an open wound. My friend almost lost his arm because of it. it is VERY important to be sure that it was a recluse, and if possible, take the spider with you to the hospital. if they give you the wrong antivenom, it can be even worse. |

My son was bitten by one when he was just a baby. I took him to the Doctor because his finger had swollen very badly. The Doctor gave him some ointment to put on it. I nor the Doctor suspected it was a spider bite. That night, his finger had swelled up so badly that it actually split open. I rushed him to the hospital, he was admitted right away. They said if I had waited any longer my son would have died. If you have been bitten do not hesitate to go immediatly to the hospital. |

I have a friend that was bitten by one. He experienced pain followed by intense swelling. They gave him a shot and some pills to take but, he stayed swelled up for about a week and it was really red around the bite mark itself. |

All that I know is that a recluse spider bite can be very serious and if bitten you need to seek medical attention a.s.a.p. The venom acts like an acid and eats away at surrounding tissue. As far as it being serious enough to cause a fatality I dont know but I would definately seek attention. |

I was outside in the dark when this happened, and it had me concerned for a couple of days, it did act like I may have been at first, but it hasn't progressed. My cousin was bitten on the face, and she didn't realize it for a couple of days, because at first she thought she had a pimple, and then that she was getting the flu. Thank you all for your replies and concern. |

Now, I'm told that I was, because of the way that it looked, but that I didn't get enought venom for it to be serious. |

Wow, this is a timely subject. I was just going to look up info on this today. On the news I saw a story of a poor man who got bit by one of these spiders in central Washington state. He had to undergo open heart surgery due to the poisoning of his blood by the venom. Plus, both legs had to be amputated as well. This spider sounds much worse than the black widows that used to be everywhere in Arizona when I lived there. |
