I've just always believed it to be some radical democracy thumping freaks who felt that if we didn't expand our sphere of influence, we would be ingulfed in communism. Kennedy did his part by making sure Cuba didn't get to big for its own pants and I feel he knew that was good enough. What did sending troops into vietnam prove? That 38 years later, they'd still be communist and we divided our country over ethical issues. I feel for every vet that was put through that hell and he didn't have to be there. My father was in Vietnam, he came back alright for the most part but even he's stated that it was a war that we could never win much like the british against us in our own revolution. We simply wouldn't surrender to foriegners telling us how to live. You can't fight someone when you don't know who your enemies are. Plus it brought back with it alot of GI's that were over there doing what they were ordered to do for the "interests" of the US, only to come back to nothing, called baby killers and worse when people over here who ducked out from having to serve didn't truly understand what was going on over there. They just heard biased reports from the media fueling anti-war sentiment. |
