Excellent question!!! Great debate!!! I can't wait to see what people have to say about this one! I personally think that no they are not closer to God, they are just more knowledgable about him... |

Hiya, 15070, I think we "respect" anyone who devotes their life to a "cause," religious or otherwise. Religious leaders are no different than anyone else, they do not have greater insight, wisdom or better communications with God than anyone else. May peace and harmony be forever yours. /s/ J.T. |

Hiya Dizzy & J.T., I think, Dizzy, that there are people who know more about the written dogma of their faith, but that does not mean they know more about "god", per se......thank you for stopping in,(and don't forget to check back!) JT, thank you for your comments, and I think we (as a spieces) LOOK for people to respect (and guide us), thank you...... |

Well, let me say that they are supposed to be men and women
who have given their lives completely over to God in a very
self sacrificing way. The dedication and the sacrifices they make
gives then a special annointing sometimes. Also, those people are
sometimes given special gifts to use for the glory of God and it may
seem that they are closer. YOU can be just as close to God though. You
can be JUST as dedicated and just as close. BARE IN MIND THOUGH, there
are many relgious leaders out there today, even in the Christian faith that
are not CALLED of God and have NOT given their lives to the Lord the way
they need to. They simply have a microphone. |

I think the quality of the leaders varies as much as with any other endeavor. Some rise to more notariety than others but then there are those who work 'in the trenches' so to speak, who we never see or hear about. Personally i think the closest to god are the simplest and most humble. They do what they do for unselfish reasons and not for personal gain. Notariety and fame are not virtues. Thos that seek them can never be virtuous in the fullest sense. "Leaders v. "brothers and sisters", I'd have to go with the latter JMO |

I dont think its about how much they know about the written word, although this helps as one cant do alot of the things God would have them to do without it, but I think there are more people that spend more time one on one with God or whom ever they are serving and this makes for a closer relationship. I can read the word all day but with out that one on one prayer and closeness to God it just is not the same. I would love to be able to spend many hours a day in nothing but prayer, but there is real life out there too and its so hard to do. |

I will say that I admire those selfless people who dedicate their lives to enriching the spiritual life of others ( no matter what the faith), not just through WORDS, but by example, and deeds.I think that the giving of self, is man's greatest gift! And though I admire those who teach the words of their faith, to the faithful, for their dedication to what the believe to be the truth, they are still as human as I, perhaps a little more POLITICALLY correct, but no "closer" to god. |

Hi LSG..A person is only as close to God as they themselves put forth an effort..God is no respector of persons..You or I can be as close to God as the next person no matter who they are..We all can have a very close personal relationship with our Creator..When God says "Draw near to me and I will draw near to thee..He didn't say this to any particular person..He was talking to everyone..Rusure |

Absolutely not. The bible tells us that God is no respector of persons. Just because Gods calling on an individuals life happens to be in the ministry, that in no way makes that person superior. We are all called by God to do something....even if its watching the babies in the nursery during services. One calling is not "holier" than another.....Thumb |

No, we are all equal in Gods eyes. None are more holy than another, in Gods eyes that is, now in our eyes, many say yes. It makes them feel better...*smiles*... Of course, that's my opinion. |
