I have come across them before, they show a unisex sign, but both do not enter at the same time..it is customary to knock and then enter if vacant. |

Yes, I know about that kind. But I mean the "Ally McBeal" style restroom. Personally, It would take me a while to get used to. |

I think most people would have a hard time taking care of business, knowing someone of the opposite gender was in a stall next to them. Also there would be alot more voyeurism and sexual assaults. |

We actually have a unisex bathroom at work and it works fine. I don't have a problem with it and neither does anyone else! |

Traky Daks...you mean males and females use it at the same time? A man in a stall and a woman in one next to it?! Your not kidding?! I would think this would be a terrific breeding ground for sexual harassment situations. |

In California, I have heard of "family bathrooms" in public places so parents won't have to send kids in alone or have other siblings wait outside. As for a unisex bathroom, if I'm in a stall and there's no toilet paper, I know I would be uncomfortable to ask a man in the stall next to me to hand me some! LOL! I just don't see a purpose to have unisex bathrooms. Plus, I can't stand the Ally McBeal show. |

Hi, Hawk. The "family bathroom" sounds perfectly reasonable. Personally I like Ally McBeal, but their restroom arraingements gives me the willies, which is part of the enjoyment of the show for me. It's just silly. |

NO thank you.I think restrooms should be female and male oriented.I do not want to go into a restroom and find a man standing there exposing his genitals going to the restrooms.NO thanks. That is not for me! |

I think they should be kept seperate... Due to rape, sexual harassment, kids & teenagers have to use them...You also have the people who expose themselves to others (I can't think of what they are called right now) I would not feel comfortable going in alone or sending my kids in there to use it...Now an office environment I can kind of see ...your all adults & if it was in a well populated area but as for malls & other public places...no.... I don't think it's a good idea anywhere. Intruders can get into office restrooms too. Mainly just too many people feeling uncomfortable & embarassed. I agree with almost everyone who has replied: It is simply not a good idea. I'm beginning to think this is more of an "Ally McBeal" fantasy than a growing reality. |

We have a mall around here that has had this for awhile.
It did not go over well at all. They changed it into a baby
changing room and parents restroom. I don't like the idea of unisex
restrooms but I can see how the parents restrooms would be a good
idea. I've gone into the men's restrooms accidently a couple of times
while out somewhere. Dingy me!!! I think it embarrassed the men more than me. |

Don't feel too bad, Pam. I once walked into a ladies restroom at a pizza parlor. This may have been due to the pitcher of beer that I had just finished. A lady gave me a funny look, and I felt quite embarassed. Hey, maybe that's a good Embarassing Experiences story idea. |

Here's the truth about unisex bathrooms. They have and are being installed in some business complexes. There are no plans to have them in strictly public places. There is no logic behind this concept. It's another attempt to blur and ignore the differences between the sexes. Someone mentioned the possibility of rape. That's not likely in the work place, and if someone wanted to rape you, I don't think they'd be too shy to hide in the girls room to do it. Now, what IS a concern to men is further opportunities for women to falsely cry 'sexual harrassment' in the workplace, something that is being abused virtually without match. All in all, unisex bathrooms are a most terrible idea. |

Hey TC when I was in Germany, in the army, I had my first encounter with a unisex restroom, I was 17 yrs. old at the time. I was using the trough, thats what they have instead of urinals a female walked by headed for a stall, I almost went into shock, I thought I was in the womens restroom. But as I spent more time in europe I learned that they do not have the hang-ups about our bodies that we have here in the usa. they have lots of nude beaches in europe also, its not a big deal to have unisex rest rooms being used at the same time in certain countries. i have heard it to be true. i kinda like it, i kinda don't. i really don't....personally, i like my privacy w/those who have the same that i have. can't say it's wrong but don't like it. it's like it's the one thing we women have just for ourselves. no man can have it. it's our domain. the idea of it being run over with men now just makes it less appealing to us women now. you know whatta mean women????? =op we can talk about certain things we don't want men to hear, and i guess the men would feel the same.....would you men? you can gossip bout women and such...... |

Women kind of use their restrooms as sort of a social center. Men are more inclined to take care of business and get out. Maybe it's a homophobic thing. |

To the girl that told me I was 'wrong' and then went on to state that rapes can occur anywhere, may I suggest reading a statement well before condemning it as wrong. What I was stating was just what you said, rape can and does occur anywhere, although not very often in the office bathroom during work hours. My point was simply that a unisex bathroom would not increase a woman's chance of rape. A rapist could just as easily now be waiting inside a woman's restroom waiting for her. On another point...You know how when you need to use the stall and all the doors are closed you kind of have to peak in the crack to see if anyone's there? I can see this happening now...Some guy is doing that in a unisex bathroom, and the girl on the other side of the door decides to say he was 'looking' in at her and gets him fired. I don't think it has anything to do with maturity. If you want a unisex bathroom, move to Germany. If they were more 'mature' of a nation, I imagine they'd have a little more power than they currently do. |

I know what you mean, DL, about public restrooms. I'd rather wait 'til I get home. Yeah, about the gay thing...that is true with some men's restrooms, that become hangouts for them. Nothing against gays here, but most of us straight guys definately get the willies when we think another guy is looking you over. I'd rather share a bathroom with a woman. |
