I think we should help as many people as we can. What would you think if you were starving and someone says we have too much to worry about here.I don't think you would like that. It would make me feel like I was nothing.SugarPlum777 |

not saying that we should not help as many as possible but I think we should try to fix our country before we try to fix the world |

I have asked this very same question many times.Don't get me wrong my heart goes out to all the people in the other countries that are in need. But I just don't see how we can go on doing for all the other countries when there are so many here needing help. But then I keep seeing a hungry child and I know the right thing to do is to help them.. |

I used to feel this way too until I lived in third world countries. There is a difference in opportunities in third world countries. Here in the U.S. we have the opportunity for education...jobs...welfare system. In these other countries there are far less opportunies to find a job...and less chances of making money. There also is not the government assistance programs that we have here. One day when I was living in South America and was so tired of children begging for money I snapped at one child and said, "Your parents need to go out and get a job!". When I realized the stupidness in my comment I searched for that child to apologize and help her. I searched all night and never found the child. I felt terrible and have never forgotten how judgemental and egotistical I was. Now I try to help whoever I can. I don't consider borders and I don't believe that I should only help those from "my" country. I believe that the whole world is our family...and should be my concern....not just those who happen to be within certain man made lines that define this country. -Lady Nyx |
