(If you have read part one, then you know where this is headed)
John and Tommy were two of my best friends during the start of Jr. High. It was our hair-brained idea to try and make a movie, or two, and make money showing them to the peeps in the neighborhood. "Showing in a garage or clubhouse near you" became our slogan.
We had big ideas, oh yeah, in our minds, we would never have to mow another lawn or hold down a paper route again. We would just make movies with my dad's 8mm camera, using nothing but the best! I suggested that we use Technicolor film, instead of Kodak. Because Vincent Price, renown actor, was promoting it on T.V. (It cost slightly more than Kodak, but hey! Vincent knew best)
We even sat down to write scripts and outline shooting schedules, plot our shooting locations. We even figured out a budget for each movie we made, and made a solemn pact to stick to it. Life was grand, and we set to work on our first film. It was a comedy, one which could only had been concieved by the minds of three young boys about to embark on a new life, entering the seventh grade. Hee Hee.
Our first film was a hit with the neighborhood kids. The story was'nt much really. It was about a Walter Mitty character, you know the type. A do gooder who's always being pushed around by the not so do gooders. Untill one day, he stumbles upon a ghost, who just happened to be a gangster in a past life. He had returned to do a good deed, so that he could earn his wings and pass on to wherever. So the story goes.....add a little slapstick, put in a happy ending, and viola! You're in "Showbiz".
The proceeds we earned from admission and koolaid sales prompted us to keep the wheels in motion. It was on to our next project, but we also discovered that we needed more charcter actors for our upcoming projects. We were about to smell success, almost touch it. Un till we realized that being mini "Movie Moguls" was not as easy as it looked.
(The Final Chapter will follow shortly, think of it as an intermission.:) )
