as many of you know I was crushed to find out that my coach would be unable to attend our end of the year banquet. In fact I still am, but he now owes me an apperance at my graduation party. lol.
It went off without a hitch dinner, presentations, then it was time for the divers, my swimming coach had to take notes from the phone call to relay what Kevin wanted to tell us all. It brought me to tears, here I am standing infront of 100-150 people and I'm balling. I can't even remember it all, just that my coach telling me how proud he was of me, that there is never going to be a replacement, he's glad I'm staying in state, that one of my best friends who is also the 5a diving champ this year looked up to me so much, and if it weren't for me she wouldn't have been so dedicated, and most of all he loved me. awwwww, I was crying. They then presented me with a Metro State t-shirt, (I will attend metro in the fall) very touching. But I would like you all to read my nomination letter for Jeffco swimmer/diver of the year by my coach, it would mean alot to me, it's very touching.....
List of accomplishments: I have been simply amazed at the accomplishments of this gal. Many coaches have their talented group of athletes that reach these really lofty goals, despite having days where they take their good health for granted. Becky is an athlete that has achieved success dispite having to overcome one of the most debilitating physical disabilities any athlete can face....blindness. Becky is legally blind. To even think she could compete against athletes in one of the strongest leagues in the state of colorado is impossible to all....except Becky. To top it off she has missed one practice in the three years that I have coached her. Her work ethic is hard to match. Her smile is non-stop. After every dive, after ever comment, after every criticism....that smile is always there. She has lettered twice now for the panthers, and the inspiration she brings to any athlete is vision impaired is incredible.
Coaches Quote:
"Becky has taught me that anyone...and I mean ANYONE...can do anything they set their mind to. I have days when I just want to quit one thing or another, or I forget about all the wonderful blessings that I have in my life....But when I coach Becky, all the things I take for granted become important again. She is an inspiration to me and to all the other divers that she has trained with and competed agains. Her career as a panther will never be forgotten by me or any of her teammates."
Please consider her as the Jefferson County swimmer/diver of the year.
Kevin.
Needless to say I didn't win the jeffco swimmer/diver of the year award. But you know what? I don't mind, these words that my coach has blessed me with will last so very much longer than any newspaper artical that anyone would ever be able to do about me, or any brief spot on the news. Tonight I realized exactly how much I'm going to miss being on the team, tonight, I actually felt like I was needed and I felt exactly how much everyone appreciated my hard work and dedication.
Thankyou so much for listening, I know it was long. ((((Hugs>>
Very teary eyed Becky
